I've mostly been seeing local bands recently since, for the first time since Uni, I seem to have lots and lots of friends who are in bands from the Sheffield scene. The best I've seen recently recently, i.e. in the last week, are Algiers, which is comprised of my friends John and William, who made this nice video for the forthcoming Tramlines festival. Saw these guys play again yesterday and, whilst I am biased by the fact that I am friends with them, they really are a very good band, with a huge sound for a two-piece. They've started putting up songs on their Soundcloud page if anyone wants to check them out. Of those songs, I'd say that Uncover Me and Flowers are the strongest (though that one has a bigger impact live), though there isn't a weak one. Sat in the second row of the audience for the Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony concert last night at the Apollo; it was truly glorious. The orchestra were fantastic and they had a lovely conductor. Also Zelda Williams turned up to present a few of the segments, and she is a right hottie in the flesh.

Our roaming IT guy at work went and loved it. I'm not a huge Zelda fan, but I'm jealous of you. And Zelda Williams is a real hottie. I'm not a super fan of the games themselves, but the music is something special. Koji Kondo came out to play piano for an encore too. And man, you wouldn't believe. I didn't really see it before now. I'm waiting for more pictures of her to appear from the event, because she looked gorgeous - especially with glasses. EDIT: Found one! ![]() From someone on Facebook. The Jim Jones Revue at the 229 The Venue on Thursday. Easily one of the best live bands in the world at the moment. Outstanding.
Supported by Welsh surf band YNwil - a bunch of likeable, humble youngsters that churned out some brilliantly old-skool Shadows/Dick Dale type tunes. They went down a storm. Chatted to the lead guitarist after who was a really nice chap. |

^ Wot 'e said.
Orbital at the Royal Albert Hall last week were nothing short of schmexcellent. Their new material really took on a new dimension, as all good live renditions do. |

I saw Leddra Chapman at the end of last month. I'd never been in such a tiny venue before, but it was fantastic! Me and my friends even got to meet her afterwards and she was lovely.

Had a couple of incredible live music experiences last week.
First, the lovely Regina Spektor, who was properly impressive live. Then, the newly-reunited Ben Folds Five, which may have been one ofthe most enjoyable gigs I've ever been to. I want tohave his scrawny, dorky, hyper-talented babies. That man knows his way around a piano and is just adorable and sweet onstage. You could tell the band was glad to be back together. The new album is glorious. If you haven't heard it yet, look up Erase Me and thenwatch the video they did with The Nerdist and Fraggle Rock for Do It Anyway. |
