i went and saw Snowman a couple of weeks ago. was absolutely amazing. the lead singer is only a little guy but he goes harder than anyone ive seen before. to get an idea of what he is like check out You Are a Casino. if you're ever in Australia and get a chance to see them live i strongly reccomend it. the Temper Trap also played that night and were impressive live and some pretty much unknow Sydney band called Bridezilla gave it their all too. and i got to stand next to all of Snowman in the crowd during their set. with them being my favourite band and all i was so nervous and wish id had a copy of their ep or album to get them to sign.

QUOTE (thirtyhelens @ Jan 26 2007, 02:32 AM) Also, I've determined that Zooey Deschanel is definitely not human. No human is that beautiful, that good an actress, that stunning a singer AND can dance on point. Dayum, girl. You totally redeem yourself with that comment right there. I was starting to worry after all that Starbuck praising. This post has been edited by Punkass: Jan 26 2007, 04:05 PM |

More of an agreement of the loveliness of Zooey then an appreciation of girl on girl relations. Wait a minute...

I saw Mr Scruff on Friday night and he was tree-mendous. At the end it was a bit ... heavy ... for me, but perfectly suited to drunken dancing. The start though, funky heaven! My missus couldn't make it, she fell asleep at 4 in the afternoon and didn't wake up enough, so I bought her a Mr Scruff mug as a consolation.
Also, went to an open mic night to see a friend play guitar with his singer friend, and the act afterwards was this guy who did a song about John Keats. Hilarious he was, although after that he was a bit shit with the actual singing and playing. Never mind. |

Has no-one been to a gig in two weeks? Jesus moses.
Last night I went to see The Long Blondes at Leeds Met and by crikey they were good. Supported ably by The Lodger (a kind of Britpop lovechild where the bloke can't really sing), the LB's (as I know 'em) were fucking fantastic. The lead singer is as bendy as she is hot. I would have danced around had I not been sober, on my own or hemmed in by hundreds of indie kids. |

Radiohead, Marlay Park, it was quite good, though it could have been better if we had stood not right beside the left speaker, nonetheless we moved into the center 3/4 of the way through and the gig became amazing, karma police was the highlight, it translates so well live, creep was excellent too. Ah memories.

QUOTE (Shack @ Feb 13 2007, 08:44 AM) So jealous - they're not playing anywhere near us. I saw Patrick Wolf last week and sent the whole gig in a haze of adoration. He's a mesmeric stage performer and the new songs sound gorgeous. |

i got hold of patrick wolf's album the other day, i can see why it would be good live. however, i'm still deciding whether it's really good or a pile of pretentious shite. the songs remind me of some flaming lips-type stuff, which means one of the above two. hopefully i'll decide it's more 'do you realize?' than 'travelling to pavonis mons by balloon'.
as a few of you know, i went to see guillemots on friday night at brixton academy. they were supported by a band called the courtesy group who instantly became my most hated band of all time ever. they were shit and the lead singer was the most up-himself cuntface i've ever had the misfortune to encounter. he clearly thought he was the next dylan, but was fuckign awful. between songs he spewed (self-written) poetry that wasn't even any good, and had a dreadful stage presence. at one point he got out an umbrella and was waving it around. absolute shit. breathe. guillemots though were absolutely barmy. they were all dressed entirely in white and just looked like they were having a great time of it up on stage. some of the slower numbers they played didn't work so well because it's a pretty charged venue, but when they played the singles and other upbeat tracks the whole place lifted and it was great. they were really up for it, and during a song had some people come out of the sides dressed as devils, where they engaged in some kind of on-stage performance during the song. it was great. fyfe had his usual lovely banter with the crowd, and kept changing between keyboards and guitar (sometimes mid-song) to show us what a silly-talented man he is. he's a great frontman i think. they also finished with the full version of sao paolo, the 12-minute closer to their album which builds to an enormous cacophonous crescendo which was great and during which some winners of a contest of some kind were pulled up on stage and given percussion instruments to whack. it were great. |
