QUOTE (DOD-MDK @ Dec 18 2005, 02:25 AM) It is one of the better games this year. Not absolutely outstanding but definitely worth a go. But you're right about needing a beefy PC for it, I was running at max detail in 1280 x 1024, and for the most part it ran at a good 60 fps or so, but there were occasional performance spikes so I had to turn anti-aliasing down. The spikes were usually when going from one area to another which makes me think it's due to some kind of pre-caching of the next area happening all in one go. A bit unfortunate really because Quake 4 was absolutely solid 60 fps all the way through the game for me, the only stuttering came when I saved the game. |

QUOTE (Douglas Nicol @ Dec 17 2005, 05:05 PM) Just got Xensaga Episode 2 from Gamestation. The first of the series officially available in the UK. I haven't played it yet, but Gamestation are selling it at a well priced £19.99. Just a word of warning. Having played 12ish hours and gotten onto the second disk, be prepared for boredom and very little in the way of action. In the first 12 hours I played a maximum of 5 actual action sequences (fighting battles etc). That worked out to about 7 hours+ of very badly acted dialogue to sit through. You have been warned. Mario Kart kicks so much ass its unreal. Finished every cup in first+ almost all of the missions are done. Unfortunately the signal strength from my neighbours wifi wasnt good enough for me to get online. Tried it at work a minute ago but I need a WEP key to access the network. Fortunately both of the pubs local to my house are on the Nintendo wireless site listed as places I can play for free! Booze and MArio Kart, how can you go wrong? |

It does, although I'm struggling to unlock all the tracks, I managed 50cc no problem but then it all went nasty Just ordered Condemned for the 360 off play.com. I'm hoping for good things. |

Dont know why but I really find the latest Mario Kart really easy. Very few of the tracks have taken me more than 2 tries to beat, even on 150cc. If your having a hard time I suggest practicing the power slide boost move, you'll never beat 150cc without it.
I have come the realisation that the DS is not designed for human hands. After a few solid hours of playing, my thumbs were in agony. The position the have to stay in is completely unnatural. |

I only used it for about 15 minutes before my thumbs were hurting. |

PS2 I'm alright at but I remember hating the original PlayStation controller initially so I think it's just due to me being used to that design that I don't mind the PS2 one. Dreamcast, N64 and Gamecube are the best controllers I've ever used. |

But, the Controller S is a dream, one of the best controllers I've ever used. I actually have a wireless microcon for my xbox which i normally use, and thats smaller again, although some of my friends say its too small. Fools. The DC controller was ok (and I'm sure must be the inspiration for the original xbox xontroller) but I got a really good madcatz one for the DC and again that was a one of the best I've ever used, except it broke down, I think something in the connector went u/s and I had to go back to the old stylee. |

Never found a problem with the PS2 pad myself. Your not wrong about the x-box ones though. As for the Dreamcast, the cable coming out of the bottom of the pad drove me nuts. Bad design I say. Fav pad- Sega Saturn. Like the Megadrive pad but better. The ultimate for streetfighter. N64 and GameCube pads suffer from being the worst for any multiformat game. Try Tony Hawk on the GC and you'll see what I mean.

I'd rather not have to endure a Tony Hawk game to prove that, but I have noticed it with some multi-format games, but by no means all of them. Soul Caliber II works well on it, I can't really say I've played many multi-format ones on Gamecube since I tend to buy exclusives for that and multiformat ones on PS2, but the controller is excellent if the developers use it well.

You've hit a bone of contention there. I've played all 3 versions of Calibur 2 and without a doubt the GC pad is the worst for it. The postition of the buttons feels so unnatural.
Dont diss the Hawk. Its good mindless fun. |

Depends which of the versions you played first, I've played the PS2 and Gamecube versions and I found the Gamecube much better to play on since I started playing on that one first and was more accustomed to it. TonyHawk games are alright, but the only really good one was Tony Hawks 3 on the GBA, the 3D incarnations have done nothing for me.

It really chugs as well, it really isn't suited to the xbox at all. |
