I tell you what, tonight's Stargate episode where she appears - it's not a Stargate episode. I swear to [insert deity here] that the Farscape writers and crew took over the Stargate studio for that episode. Claudia was in full-on sassy and sexy mode, with a nice dash of violence thrown in for good measure. Recreating all that smouldering Browder-Black goodness.
I treated myself to a pile of Farscape DVDs recently and watched the documentary on season 3 which Black and Browder present as their normal selves, and although Browder's married with kids I swear my TV was going to melt at one point even though they were out of character. I can see why someone thought it'd be a smart move to get them onto Stargate in some way shape of form because their, ah, pulling power should help keep the show fresh - you've got to admire it managing to keep going beyond the run of the Star Trek series. |

QUOTE (Excelsior @ Dec 21 2004, 10:55 PM) Thats cause its better! Really though, I think the reason its lasted so long is because they don't take themselves to seriously, can you imagine picard bungling things up like they do in stargate? No, they work on the premise that everyone is almost infallible. What a load of twot! |

Yes, the humour does help massively, and the constant requests to dumb-down the technobabble are also entertaining - although you have to admire the basic consistency of it all and how they've kept upgrading it all.
I still love the time loop episode where O'Neil and T'ealc are playing golf, hitting their T shots into an active wormhole. O'Neil asks T'ealc how far away the other Gate is, and it's like "40 light years O'Neil" and he goes "That's gotta be some sort of record!" and then the next time they get caught by Hammond and O'Neil goes "In the middle of my back swing?!!" Plus of course O'Neil resigning and finally getting some sugar from Carter! As you say, Trek rarely let its hair down quite that far, and it inevitably suffered from not being set in a time and environment which more people could relate to. Most people will get the whole US marines doing their thang concept, allbeit with SF trappings... This post has been edited by Excelsior: Dec 21 2004, 11:08 PM |

Although this latest series on channel 4 has been a bit poop, and Stargate Atlantis doesn't have the same sort of ... chemistry ... as SG1. I think their major bloke has potential, but the native woman is far too wooden (works for tealc), the black marine guy, well he doesn't really get much of a mention, and the doctor, he has potential as well.

I think Atlantis is still feeling its way a little but the general scale of what they're trying to do with it is impressive - I do get a genuine sort of "awe" buzz off it and I thought the recent two parter was actually quite strong. Unlike the Stargate series it didn't have the benefit of a film lead in to make the characters familiar, of course, so it's inevitably got a bit more work to do on that front.
I do worry about it becoming a bit Voyager-esque though - and by that I mean, oh dear, here we are stranded a long way from home with no backup and yet we still seem to have all the materials we need. I mean, aren't they going to just, well, run out of bullets and stuff at some point? Exactly how much did they manage to bring with them? That said, given the most recent Stargate episode, you can take a rough guess at what's going to happen towards the end of both of the current series, can't you? |

For all you gals (and guys I suppose) out there who are chomping at the bit for some more Ben Browder action, a teaser trailer for season 9 of Stargate-SG1 can now be found on the Stargate Information Archive.

Fancy saying a bit more? How could you call two of the best ever sci fi leads teaming up again a disgrace?

Well as a huge SG-1/Atlantis fan I believe that it is RDH (Richard Dean Anderson) who is one of the finest leads of any sci-fi series. The producers of SG-1, however, have been phasing him out for some time - in fact there were many episodes of the last series in which he simply didn't appear. Now they are bringing in Browder - a good lead, I'll give you that - it just means that less and less of what made SG-1 good in the first place will remain.
...and don't get me started on Jonas Quinn. Argh. Edit: Plus, Claudia Blacks appearance in season 8 "Prometheus Unbound" wasn't exactly top form. This post has been edited by Ingram: Apr 7 2005, 07:16 PM |

Aaah, you're an SG-1 geek. I getcha. I've never really liked SG-1 so I don't share your exact pain but I know how gutting it is when you feel the producers are arsing up their own show (cf. Buffy Season 6...).
