I doubt most people will care because it looks utterly delightful.

That poster reminds me of the cover to the book I own.

Hobbit to be split into three films? And more footage to be filmed for Return of the King?

Not sure how I feel about that. More Tolkien on screen would be good, but this smacks slightly of Lucas and his tinkering with the Star Wars films and Jackson did let King Kong get away from him as well . . .

Yeah some people are reading it as a third Hobbit film, but it's more likely to be featured on extended edition DVDs like with LOTR. As much as I hope it's not the case who knows, I'm sure Peter Jackson likes money just as much as studios do, so if the first Hobbit film does ridiculously well beyond expectations, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to split the second movie into two. It unfortunately seems to be the trend at the moment, a la the Twilight film, Harry Potter and the Hunger Games.

There's not enough story in there for three films, surely? It's a shorter book than any of the three LotR volumes.

Making a trilogy out of one book is taking the piss a little.

It's not just the Hobbit they are adapting, they are using other material Tolkien wrote to fill in gaps in the book (like where Gandalf has to rush off to and what he gets up to).

Half of them seemingly about crap that most people aren't going to care about?
I'm with you man. Hell I was dubious about making it two films.
Still, until they break out the 3D i'll remain hopeful.

I guess it depends how much non-Hobbit material they are adding and what running length the films will be.
