Merchant was just brilliant, I usually hate spin-offs but his character should definately have one in some alternate universe.

Yeah, a bit of Brent came out when Andy kept putting his foot in it and backtracking- whilst he was sat in that in that church meeting i almost expected him to whip out a guitar from beneath his chair and treat us to a couple of Brent classics.Good ep, though- there was a really good chemistry between Gervais and Winslet.

I think Extras is actually funnier than The Office. My favourite moments tonight were him dressed in the Saturday Night Fever suit ("I like to dress up for a prayer meeting") and Kate Winslet getting caught holding her tit.

I'm surprised no-one's noticed that the actress playing Suzanne - Ricky's lust interest in tonight's episode - is the very same actress he flirts with in his Spaced scene at the Loot offices. 'Professional couples only'. I wonder if she was in that role as a nod to the scene in Spaced.

That was certainly the best laugh-out-loud episode as a whole, but I still liked Ben Stillers cameo the best in the first week.

Ashely Jensen (who plays Maggie) is a diamond in every episode. She's got all the best lines and pulls the most amazing faces when other people are talking. And she's surprisingly foxy. Certainly one to add to my big jumper wearing hot chick list.

I thought the series really hit its stride this week.  I laughed so hard at one point I started choking. ('I've been touched by God.  Not in that way...')

That entire scene had me literally laughing non stop

I don't know if I agree with that. Brent was mostly unaware of how goofy he was until it was far too late to back track convincingly. Andy seems more knowing, and you can associate with him a little bit more.
Brent seemed to get himself into situations because he's fueled by ego and will do whatever it takes to better his own circumstances. Andy got himself into a pickle yesterday because he was trying to do a genuinely good thing (i.e. not tell that woman that her belief that it'll all be alright in heaven is something he didn't agree with), and it just got out of his control. It was the same last week. Andy only got into a contest with that other extra because he was an insufferable git and kept on provoking him. Brent seemed to need very little provocation to act up, and it was mostly all in his own head anyway (i.e. the way he would make a fool of himself trying to upstage Neil because he saw him as a rival when that was never the case and he was actually very reasonable).

Though, as Time Out pointed out, the show is a co-production with HBO, so, as the episode is about Dennis, an unknown in the US, its a shame American audiences won't really be able to appreciate what was an outstanding episode.
