Many thanks to today's Guardian for providing me with a selection of short stories from authors including; Donna Tartt, Annie Proulx and Patricia Highsmith.
Even more thanks for putting aforementioned stories
online.
They are a generous bunch.

Are they previously un-published?

I think it varies. Some have, some haven't.
I don't have my copy of the paper with me, I'll check when I get home from work.

Checking, it looks like a few are copyrighted 2005. Thanks for the link, have to find time to read them now.

if you want to treat yourself, the penguin 70th anniversary series includes dave egger's short short stories, as seen in the back of the guardian mag. after all the diy, gardening and health bollocks.
24 stories for £1.50. 6p a story. thats value in anyone's book.

Best short story I ever clapped my weeping gear around is probably Paranoia in the Laundrette by Bruce Robinson. Funny every time.

I like The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury. We read it when I was in middle school (I would have been around twelve at the time) and I still have the photo-copy of it that I was given that day.
Excellent stuff!
