It is that very movie. 'That other boy' is Seann William Scott by the way.
SOTD - I know! But everyone seems to hate it and it's a pretty weak plot. think the OST helps sway me too (Even if it does include Sisqo).

I guess it's cos the characters, for a rom-com, are really neurotic and flawed and somehow don't make me wanna throw stuff at the screen because I can actually empathise. Also the fact that the two protagonist's don't end up together in the end, makes a welcome change.
I know it's crap, otherwise i wouldn't post it here.

Great films, both of them. Although it is impossible to describe why they are good to people. I know someone who hadn't seen them and I couldn't think of a good way to sell their brilliance to another person.

This doesn't count. It's a classic film! It's possibly the best thing Ah-nuld ever starred in. I remember seeing it on the telly about a month or so ago, watching the best scene in the flick. The one where Ah-nuld sets up all the booby traps, builds himself a bow with exploding arrows, covers himself in crap and mud and swamp goo, lights a torch and stands in the fork of a tree and goes;
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I remember thinking;
"That's the governor of California."

Yeah, but B&TBJ was widely considered a failure and a flop compared to the sleeper-hit status of B&TEA upon initial release. Nice to see it's far and away more popular here.
Adding one: Phantom of the Paradise. (I know, so silly. But it's got real vintage DePalma bits and that mask frightened me to death as a child.)

I get ripped to shreds here at work for hailing the genius that is Con Air...by people who like The Rock (the film) - both are fantastic.
As for The Rock the "actor" - I saw Welcome To The Jungle over the weekend and thought he was better than your average movie muscle. His name on a film poster would NOT put me off.

So many of my favourite films would fit in here. Cliff Hanger, Vertical Limit and 10 Things I Hate About You are just the tip of the iceberg.

I saw The Rock (the man) on SNL and he was very funny doing Rob Schneider impressions. And ever since, i find him most entertaining cos at least he is witty and funny and doesn't take himself too seriously (yeah -Vin Diesel *points*).
One reason i like The Rock (the film) is that it has Michael Biehn as a Navy Seal in it ... i like it when Mikey plays navy SEALS. Call it a 'fetish'. Navy SEALS and cowboys and astronaut movies ... hmmm. I also like Mark Dacascos fillums to but that is mainly for the visuals of that beautiful man.
Ahem - speaking of Navy SEALS - i really think GI Jane is loads better than everyone thinks. Not just cos of Viggo's legs in shorts. Demi is rather good and the late great Anne Bancroft is fabulous. I also don't find her as awful as everyone else seems to. She did a film called Mortal Thoughts that i rather enjoyed too.
CLimbing films - another genre i have a fondness for !!! - yes, ahem, Vertical Limit being one. mainly cos it has both Krycek from the X-Files and Dr Bashir in the same fillum. To me - that makes it mandatory viewing.
And i also like bad Channel 5 type TV films from the 80s about serial killers who murder models in NYC. That is a particular genre.
Other films - The Paper and January Man. Quite good.

I know I shouldn't, but I did quite enjoy The Avengers. I adore the TV show and knew that no film would even come close to how good the series was, but for the novelty factor I enjoyed it. And visually I thought it was excellent
Waterworld is another film that I think gets too much bad press as well. Sure there are loads of plot holes, but I really couldn't see why it was considered that bad a film. Maybe because all the money spent on it didn't appear on screen

I'm glad that The 'Burbs is thought of so fondly by so many people here (well, 3 people). I watched Tom Hanks get interviewed by Mark Cousins, and Hanks derided The 'Burbs like it was the worst thing he'd ever been in (The Terminal was yet to be made back then!). I look forward to Whitey and Julie laying down some chop smacking and mess-uppery on the Hanks next time they are out and about together and happen to bump into him.
