I'm going to have a bath later, and I'm making a CD for to have playing. I've decided not to put your standard piano-ish, stringy, classical, mellow jazz "relax music" on it, but try to make an "alternative" bath compilation, whilst still keeping it calm. I'd like to know what you think should go on it.
So far I've got Lemon Jelly's "In the bath" to start, then somewhere else on the disc Portishead "Only you"and Pink Floyd "Comfortably numb" along with some Jarre and/or Air (feel free to suggest tracks).
I dunno, I'm bored again. I generally start threads when I'm bored.

I find anything slightly psychedelic is good to listen to in the bath, anything off Revolver for example or Pet Sounds. Alternatively try some Belle and Sebastian, it sounds lovely and you'll be able to listen to the words without distraction.

I do genuinely listen to Hancock in the bath.

Jeff Buckley - New Year's Prayer, for something good and bathy but dark.
I've been listening to my Blues Brothers CD in the shower since I'm going to see them on Friday (had to throw that in there, sorry) So I'd but maybe Hey Bartender or Sweet Home Chicago on there.
feck off!

Anything by Sigur Ros is quite relaxing, and is very nice to listen to in the bath.

Surely 'In the Tub' by Bert and Ernie?
Though Igmeister's suggestion of Belle and Sebastian is similarly solid. Some of the chirpier tracks though, not stuff like 'I Fought in a War'. I suggest 'Asleep on a Sunbeam' or 'Wrapped Up in Books' as quality bath-tunes.

If you're thinking of using some of Jarre's stuff....may I recommend
Waiting For Cousteau. Not the whole album, just the title track. All 46 minutes and 53 seconds of it.
It has also been scientifically proven that 46'53" is the
perfect duration for a bath.
Well actually, sod it, play the whole album. You can have an energetic cleaning frenzy to Calypso Parts 1-3, and then chill for 47 minutes.

Anything nice an dfloky tends to work quite well, for example, much of the stuff of Elliott Smith's 'From a Basement on a hill', as long as you don't concentrate too much on the lyrics many of the songs have a nice feel to them.

For an added frisson you could listen to the music of Claude Francois or Jim Morrison. They both died in the bath, the former unwisely choosing to change a light bulb while taking a bath.

Bloc Party - Shes hearing voices
Funeral for a friend - History

I was looking for bath music. Calm bath music. Relaxing bath music. Static-X, Muse, Bloc Party, Chicane... All good in their own right, all OK shower music. They're not calm, relaxing bath music though.
As an update, one of the better playlists I've tested goes a little bit something like this;
Lemon Jelly - In The Bath
Telepopmusik - Breathe
Electrelane - Gone Under Sea
Sergio Mendes - Mas Que Nada
Moby - Everloving
Björk - Aurora
Radiohead - Pyramid Song
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
The Cure - If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
A Perfect Circle - Peace Love and Understanding
Velvet Underground - Venus In Furs
Antony And The Johnsons - Hope There's Someone
Atlanta Rhythm Section - Spooky
The Beta Band - Dry the Rain
Bobby McFerrin - Circlesong Six
Which works well from the the pre-bath shower, right through to getting out and dry.

I don't find heavy nu-metal guitars and drums accompanying a man gutterally screaming "Cold, we're so cold, we are so cold" for two minutes relaxing. Nor do I find Bellamy screaming "your time is now" with upbeat drum and piano calming. The same goes for those funky Londoners and that dance track with Máire Brennan on it.
If you'd chosen one of my all-time favourite songs, Unintended, I'd've given you Muse. Blue Light by Bloc Party, maybe, or Compliments, or So Here We Are.
I doubt Static-X have done anything calm, but I imagine Chicane probably has, just not Saltwater so much.
