Full Version: BBC to eradicate repeats in the not too distant?

In the next ten years, Grade hopes that the BBC output will be all-new without repeats by the year 2015. So, what do we think about this?
Zissou
Well it depends on the show.
But they only ever seem to repeat cack like 'my family' anyway.

I guess they'll move them onto the other channels. I have no problems with them showing repeats of decent programmes, it's really only the daily mail that cares about that isn't it?

If they stop showing repeats then I'll never get to see anything - I'm bloody useless at getting myself in the right place at the right time to see stuff.
Ade
It's gonna bugger up the daily news schedule.

Actually not a bad idea - that'd work for me. Once I've got the other channels, that is.

They'll have to come up with something new for every bulletin.

I suppose that it would be nice to see only original programmes but only if they were good. I'd prefer a repeat of a classic show to something shit they used to fill a gap in the schedule.

I personally don't think it will actually happen but I definitely think they will reduce the number of repeats to a reasonable level, they'd still have to repeat shows that people have missed earlier in the week, even if they are shown late at night.

Zigzackly. What's the point of no repeats if all the programmes are as bad as Eastenders, or that Neighbours from Hell programme I've just cringed through on Channel 4?

Can anyone actually name anything good Michael Grade's done? I only think of him as the man who cancelled Doctor Who and who was subliminally called a cunt by Chris Morris. But he must had had some good ideas in his long career in broadcasting?

It is only during Peak hours that would be "repeat-free zones". That can't be a bad thing really. However, like it says in the article, it costs so much less to repeat something than to produce something new. But again, if the repeats are continually "Last of the Summer Wine" & "Fools & Horses", then I think it's a good idea.

In 1988 he moved on to become chief executive of Channel 4. There, he sanctioned controversial programmes such as The Word, Eurotrash and Dyke TV.

That would be a no then.
