I think Marilyn Manson makes great music and all that but he's a bit weird isn't he
pots
not really. he tries very hard to be the kind of character middle america is very scared of.

he's clever.

He is, indeed, a bit weird. I used to hate the man on principle because he was annoying and silly-looking but I did like the music. Then, I saw him in a load of interviews and in Bowling for Columbine and I realised that he's actually an ok guy. I then saw him onstage at Reading 2001 where he went from 'ok' to 'bloody hell' and, scarily, he's actually quite sexy now. Sometimes.

While we're on the subject of scary, did anybody see download festival on tv where this guy was hanging from the stage from some hooks in his back? THAT was scary...does anyone know who it was?

Really very much so.

Industrial pop gothic wannabe. He tries far to hard to be the somewhat laughable character he likes to portray. People who are "fans" of Manson generally annoy the hell out of me, because they're generally really rather stupid, sort of "clingy", or just plain wankers. But the man's made a few good songs, and generated a large fanbase, so fair play to him.

Very tall.

But not that clever...

That would have been Matt Zane from Society 1.

edit: ...who was hanging from hooks at Download.

Thats the one!

I was fairly ambivalent towards Mr Manson before I was asked to review him in concert at the Brixton Academy. I went along thinking that this was the sort of music I grew out of when I was 20, and didn't all the little gothic kids look precious.... and came out thinking "Marilyn Manson is a rock god!!!"

Seriously, see him next time he's in town.

Yeah, I was the same. I liked the music but when you actually see him live, he's such a showman. Really puts the effort in. Pretty damn spectacular in my view.

He is this era's Alice Cooper. When I was little Alice Cooper scared the crap out of me, and mostly because he had a woman's name. But now we all know that Alice Cooper is just a big nerd that put on some rock show. The same can be said for Manson.

I, too, used to hate Manson until I saw him being "normal" and realized that it's all just a big act. He still is too weird for me, though. Just the other day I had to transfer a Manson concert and I was very impressed at his showmanship. He sure knows how to make an entertaining concert. I could have done without the women with the fake fannies, but there you go.

The problem is really with Manson fans. They just don't get it, do they?

So Alice plays golf.... what bourgeois hobby of Manson's are we going to find out about in 20 years? laugh.gif

I can see it now; when he isn't reading Proust and smoking his pipe, Brian Warner (56) loves to eat crepe suzette...

Or something.

ED: don't ask why eating crepe suzette is bourgeoise passtime, and I won't tell...

Not the biggest fan of his music, but I will listen to it. I've seen him in interviews and the man has fucked Rose McGowan... so I think a lot of him I suppose.

aye, he's just slightly clever and slightly ludicrous to me

Child of Agent Orange, you know...

Little bit of trivia for ya there.

I don't mind his music too much, and I've never really and a problem with him for any particular reason since I only really paid attention to him when he was being interviewed and acting normal. That's when the penny dropped and I though 'Ahh, it's all an act...clever lad, clever lad' because, quite frankly, nothing sells more units than being shocking (Sex Pistols, Motley Crue, and it's not just restricted to music, I speak of course of GTA: SA and the 'Hot Coffee' incident).

I don't think his music is anything particualrly groundbreaking: bit of glam, bit of industrial, bit of pop. But he sells it very well.

But I do have a problem with his fans. Not all of them since some of my best mates like him, but they are more from the school of 'seen him live, think he is a great showman' than the 'OMG he is sO rAWk!'

That might seem like more of an achievement if she hadn't executed the most public parading of one's hind quarters in history. laugh.gif

I think Mechanical Animals is an excellent album but apart fom that nothing else has really grabbed me. I think he is clever at exploiting middle America's biggest fears, surely people who oppose him and call him a threat to the nation and so on must realise that they are selling him a hell of a lot of records?

I think the way Manson is perceived generally is in the last part of this cartoonhere
