I've been to a couple of Countdown tapings and a forgotten daytime ITV daytime quiz called 'Ask No Questions'. DLT was one of the celeb guests. I've never in my life seen a man who had such an over-inflated opinion of how funny he was.

I remember it. I am that old.

It featured Brinsley Ford from Aswad as 'Spring' and had a killer theme tune which was great for annoying the shit out of my co-workers.

It is ringing a bell...

Howsabout Supergran with that awesome theme sung by Billy Connelly...

"Stand back Superman, Iceman, Spiderman. Batman and Robin too."

Yessss, its nit just me that remembers it. Also featured Peter Firth, a kid with glasses called Brains and a fat kid called Doughnut. Oh, and a girl called Tiger...my first crush. Melvyn Hayes was in it too. Looked for the tune for ages...wanted to play it at some DJing events. Still havent found it.

She makes them look like a bunch of fairies. She’s got more bottle than United Dairies.

Hang about - Look out! For Supergran.

Now... If I were to show the following, what would I be talking about...

Tracking: It looks good at Mach One.
Control: Uh, Roger.
Pilot: DCS arm switch is on.
Control: OK, Victor.
Pilot: Landing rocket arm switch is on. Here comes the throttle. Circuit breaker's in.
Tracking: We have separation.
Pilot: Roger. Inboard and outboards are on. We're comin' forward with the sidestick.
Tracking: All looks good.
Control: Uh, Roger.
Pilot: I've got a blowout. Damper three.
Control: Get your pitch to zero.
Pilot: Engine's out. I can't hold altitude.
Control: Correction. Alpha hold is off. Trip select is emergency.
Pilot: Flightcom, I can't hold it. She's breaking up. She's break . .

The show that came up with the frankly brilliant notion that you can show excepional speed by slowing the film down. Sheer genius.

Indeed... with a strange sound in the background to show massive strength...

Anyone ever see the TV movie with Sandra Bullock?

Six Million Dollar Man has one of the best credit sequences in TV ever...probably only beaten by The Avengers

They repeated it many times so i remember it. My sister wanted to be Tiger when she was little. And Peter Firth is now Harry from Spooks ... funny that.

Supergran was okay - i liked the theme the best "there's nuthin that she cannae do!"

My absolute fave as a young 'un. Why is it never repeated? I'd love to see the epsiode where they pour loads of salt into the river for the whale that's stranded there.

My sis (of the Tiger fixation) was most afraid of the witch from this show - she hid in the tree apparently.

I didn't like Worzel Gummidge taking his head off. I liked Aunt Sally though.

There was an ep where Worzel made his own scarecrow. Due to some of the Crowman's magic being passed onto Worxel it came to life. It had a boxing glove hand and it's mouth was all slanty and weird. It scared me to bits.

I liked Dolly Clothespeg better than uber-bitch Aunt Sally.

Postgate magic.

When people get nostalgic about rubbish like Dogtanian and Rentaghost I thank my lucky stars I grew up with things like Bagpuss.

It has truly stood the test of time, unlike certain shows people wax lyrical about.

Hey... there was nothing wrong with Rentaghost...

With the exception of Mr. Claypole being the spitting image of my science teacher!

Here's what the mighty TV Cream has to say about it:

KIDS' BOOK review/publicity show which probably never encouraged a single child to read (these sort of things never do - cf SMITH AND GOODY), but will be long-remembered as featuring TOM BAKER, simultaneously with his run as Doctor Who (thus confusing the hell out of small kids.) Stephen Moore took over after a while. Odd kids-in-stately-home-hiding-behind-sliding- panels-and-being-spied-on-by-scary-man atmosphere. Continual references to something called the Book Tower Watcher's Guide, which no-one ever bothered with. Theme tune by Andrew Lloyd-Webber was the best thing he's ever done by miles (not that that's saying much.)
Svein
Hmmm... wonder why I don't remember that?

m0r1arty - that red haired chap is a chap, 'snufkin' is his name...

you were probably more scared of 'little my', who can be a bit scary, but is actually very funny as she's very naughty.

i'm currently halfway through disc five (of seven) from the entire collection of 'the moomins', that's available on dvd from germany - die mumins

it's very good indeed and has thankfully (after the expense of it) stood up very well and i'm really enjoying it. it's interesting to note that the original swedish release featured 13 25 minute episodes, that were cut down to 79 9 minute episodes for the german release, and then 100 5 minute episodes fot the english release.

now i'm not sure how things were in the swedish relese, but i get the impression that there was a voice actor for each of the main characters, where as both the german and english versions featured a narrator who voiced every character.

now, i'm sure that everyone remembers the fantastic, if not a little spooky, electronic soundtrack (with flute) that was one of the things that made 'the moomins' special (or terrifying). well, the german release has a soundtrack of jazzy easy listening (that's a bit too straight to be interesting in any way) and the main title sounds like the music from 'terry and june'.

the changes in the episodes are also very interesting; the english episodes are made from either a whole german episode, that's been well edited down, or one german episode chopped roughly in half. it's also intersting to note that the german episodes aren't quite as funny and the sense of dread, that comes at the end of nearly every english episode, is absent.

the english version is definately better. the atmosphere created by the music and narration works a lot better, the writing is also much tighter and it's generally more entertaining, more fun and a bit scary at times.

good stuff!

Little My was great. Or thingummy & bob were also similar. the scariest things were the Hattifattinas (Electric banana ghost things who make low growly noises), the magician and the Groke (the Medusa like beast of winter). But all the characters were a bit weird. That's why i liked it.

Snuffkin was cool - he was the Huck Finn meets Capt America from Easy Rider of Moomin Valley.

That's weird cos i love the strange voice of the old fruity actor - Richard something - he was in The Witchsmeller Persuivant eps of Blackadder I "the graves of our ancestors did open and they did compete in athletic sports".

I adore the moomin music. There is an MP3 of the original music somewhere online cos i've heard it. the best was the jazzed-up groovy version of the theme tune that they had for the episode with the magicians ruby in the suitcase and the subsequant party.

I am so glad. This seems more in keeping with the atmosphere of the original books which i love also. They aren't anything like the happy-clappy Japanese cartoon rubbish - they are spooky and dark and whimsical too. Very Finnish!

I need help because this is really beginning to bug me.

Does anyone remember a show that featured a puppet sausage dog that spoke with a german accent? I think it was a pop show of some sort (could very well be wrong) and I think his name was Max. Anyone? Please!
