I was going to suggest that one. Such a fantastic use of music throughout that film.

Speaking of Kubrick, I feel it would be remiss of me not to mention the ending of Dr. Strangelove. Quite spoilery for anyone who hasn't watched it.

Count Basie's April in Paris as a shot pulls away from Sheriff Bart's Gucci saddle & he makes his way down to share a down low five with the man himself in Blazing Saddles.

Cool & funny, which is also cool.

Hehe. The song is forever associated thusly for me.

My favourite spooky scene of music use is Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan in Zodiac. I like the use of songs in that movie entirely. Much more subtle than a lot of moviemakers who go for the kitsch effect.

And in a similar vein, Scorpio's Theme by Lalo Schifrin from Dirty harry is another favourite. I like most of his work.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but the use of California Dreamin' by The Mamas and The Papas in Chungking Express is wonderful. It is used repeatedly throughout the film to soundtrack the relationship (or lack of) between two of the characters, and it creates an emotional association with the song that builds and builds and builds until it finally reaches a glorious crescendo at the end of the film.

Since the thread has been revived, I'll offer 'The Times They Are A' Changing' by Bob Dylan over the opening montage in Watchemen.

Because I saw a programme about Donovan earlier today I'll mention 'Atlantis' in Goodfellas. The magician?
