Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright will be signing copies of the Shaun of the Dead Graphic Novel on the 5th of November between 1 and 2pm at the
Forbidden Planet store, Shaftesbury Ave London.
The graphic novel is the "director's cut" adaptation of the movie, complete with deleted scenes, unshot scenes and bonus material all for a great price of £7.99.
Best get there early to avoid disappointment.
Thanks to Sostie for spotting this

Wow, the chance to meet Simon Pegg on my 21st birthday? I couldn't ask for a better present!
Does anyone have any tips for this sort of thing? For example how early is it recommended you get there? And so on... Hello by the way, first post.

I must also ask this. I have never been to a signing event before, but one hour seems distinctly short.

It does, doesn't it? I mean, how many people can be seen in an hour?

It'd be awful if you travelled all the way to London and didn't even get to see them. I've never been to a signing event either but this one really appeals to me.

My friends went to Michael Jackson's only ever record signing, but that's not quite the same. They had to close down an entire Virgin Megastore and the whole of Times Square came to a standstill with thousands of passers by clamouring at windows attempting to get a glimpse... so their signing knowledge is hardly relevant to this particular event

I went to the Spaced 3-disc set signing. I think it was about 1-2 and I got there kinda late, so they were finishing up and just signing copies for mail-order purposes, so I didn't get to meet them per se, but I did get to say a brief hello and pick up one of the mail-order copies for myself, and they stayed around in store for a while afterwards browsing.

How early would you advise getting there?

Sep 29 2005, 08:23 PM
Yeah do we need to be there, say, only an hour before the signing? Or are there hardcore fans that are there from first thing in the morning? I really have no idea...

And do they chat to you? Is it just like:
Sign, move on.
Sign, move on.
Sign, move on.
Or:
Hi, I really love your work... I was an original Spaced fan back when it was on TV. Could you possibly do this DVD for me as well? Thanks very much! Any news on the ETA of Hot Fuzz? Nice stuff! Nice to meet you... see you later!
Move on.

I just went to a signing that Ricky Gervais did in NYC and although they kept the line moving he was very amiable and chatted quite a bit with those that went up...he freaked out when we pulled out a SEONA DANCING 45 for him to sign...he lost all motor functions for a bit there...

Hello all, this is my first post! I've looked around on these forums for quite a bit but have never really had anything productive to say myself! Anyway, I am very excited about going to this signing, I will get there as early as it takes to see Simon as he is a great influence in comedy to me.
Anywho, I've never been to a signing before (except for a Jimmy Eat World one where I managed to get them to sign a contract admitting my band is better than theirs, resulting in me being verbally abused by one of the band members in front of his baby girl) and I was wondering if I might be able to give both Simon and Edgar a package. No it's not a bomb, I have been writing an Internet Tv Show called Exit for some time now and am intending to record and edit a couple of episodes over the next month, I thought it a brilliant idea if I could pass on a copy of the DVD each to Edgar and Simon. Just because they are a major influence really. Do you think I'd be allowed to give them stuff!?
Thanks
Adem

I don't think you would be allowed. And even if you did then they probably wouldn't even unwrap it.
Because there are problems with people being given gifts and then about five years down the line the person who gave them the gift accuses them of plagiarising parts of it.
JK Rowling, for instance, has security who immediately take and then later on destroy any packages given to her... because even one tiny sentence, intentionally or not, and they could sue her ass off.
Michael Jackson has famously been involved in 1000 plagiarism cases and won every single one. Quite often they are deranged fans who just meet him and then drop the charges and more often they are loonies who sent him parcels with videos or songs on, then accuse him of taking a phrase, or a general sound/feeling of a song.
I suppose it depends on how trusting Simon and Edgar are!! But if they turn it away, it's nothing personal, it's just them covering their backs.

Probably a couple hundred geeks like us..................... But i'm the good looking one

lol, I kid.
I intend on getting there very early considering I don't yet own the shaun of the dead comic, I always intended to and this is my incentive, no doubt my girlfriend will wander off to Oxford Street and get some shopping done while i'm just staring around at the comics and DVD's.

But yeah i'm getting there early, and only 'cos I wanna buy the stuff first.

Last time I went to a signing at FP (for the special edition spaced), I queued for over an hour and was very late back for lunch. It would definitely try to get there for 12 and be prepared for a long wait.

I shall be there earlier than twleve, I am sure. I am terrible. I get everywhere far too early and then get irritated because the other people are on time.
I may come with some friends, which would be jolly fantastic, but it all depends on whether they have more important things to do, like going bowling or staying in bed.
Damn them!

I too live an hour and a half away plus a short ride on from Kings Cross on the Piccadilly line. I will leave Leicester at 9 and see what happens.
I can see it already. Dozens of geeks like us, aimlessly wandering around Forbidden Planet all morning, casting furtive glances at anybody who may look like they're intending to start a queue.

That's unnecessarily early, Trix - you will have an extremely long wait. When I went they were late by more than half an hour too, but if you're going to be there specially, then you may as well just hang around!

yeah, you're probably right, but its a long journey and my only reason for coming to London, so thats why I though I'd go so stupidly early. It would be a bit of a disaster if I missed out wouldnt it?

Because the signing desk is at the rear of the store, and to have an entire line of over a hundred freaks trailing through the shop would be totally impractical, given that the store is open for normal trading hours, and lunchtimes are quite busy.

Hi folks, just thought I'd check and see if there was a bigger geek than me going to this...
I'm spending 8 and a half hours on a Megabus down from Glasgow (with the missus in tow) just to go to this signing. I want to get my Romero signed cricket bat signed by Simon and Edgar too.

I might take you up on that. A lonesome geek is dangerous, but if a few of us join up, who knows what could happen.
Plus I'm sure after all that queueing we will need a pub trip - and going to the pub alone is just sa-a-aad.

Well this is beginning to sound like an actual plan forming...
How will we work this then? I vote we meet at 10.30 - 11am next to the giant Yoda at the back of the shop who has a broken hand, then lurk around the general area until a queue begins. Maybe we can post ourselves at different locations, in and out of the store, and keep up the queuewatch with walkie-talkies...
Or maybe I plan too much.
