What does everyone think of their new single from the 'difficult' second album then??

You can hear a clip here
stinketta
it sounds like all their other stuff really...
Kirstie
I'd rather they'd stayed away.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I really liked their first album, I've gotta be honest, but they needed to come up with a lot better than that this time around really. sad.gif

The Darkness are the new Queen.

I can't hear it! Shame, because I like the first album. People were way too snobbish about it.

I'm with 'im. A very fun album with extreme singalong potential. Poprock if you like.

Prock.

I'm not picking on individuals - of course there are other reasons to dislike something - I just think a great deal of people were snobbish about them.

Good or bad, did anyone really expect it to sound drastically different to their last album?

Probably not, which will mean people rapidly lose interest, and they'll effectively be a one-hit wonder.

However, I had my own ideas as to where they should take their sound, which involved lots of big Rick Wakeman style keyboards and orchestras - so they could ape the prog-rock genre in the same way they were influenced by hair-rock before. That would have been cool.

Tell that to Queen.
Or AC/DC
Or Motorhead
Or any of a hundred or so bands that found their sound early on, and while tweaking it here and there, followed it pretty much throughout their entire careers.

Trouble is, the Darkness's 'sound' isn't their own - sure, I enjoyed it, but they were basically recycling the sound of all the other bands you mentioned there - and that, along with the fickle nature of pop fandom these days could spell an early end for their careers.

Its alright, nothing exciting really. Thats worse than me hating it by the way.
