Having successfully resurrected a TV legend this year, the BBC are planning to resurrect a real one next year as 2006 will see a new 13-part series of Robin Hood that will air in the same Saturday evening time slot as Doctor Who.
You can read more about this here:

Ahhhh, good old Little Ron.....
They seem to be doing this a lot recently. I wonder if the Beeb are tapping into supposed massive fanbases that exist online to recreate shows they know will have a big following. The only problem with that is that we might go so far down that road that the programmes with limited fan numbers may also eventually get an airing.
Like Keeping Up Appearances.

I've already mentioned this in the Nottingham meet thread, but it's Robin Of Sherwood all the way. As an early teen, it was the singlemost important programme on TV in 1984 for me, and holds many important memories. The BBC will have their work cut out if they are to equal, let alone better R.O.S. in my eyes - but if they do, then Brillo pads! I shall reserve judgement for now, but remain optimistic...
Rose-tinted specs or no, I've just now gawn an' ordered the R.O.S. Complete Series 8-disc DVD box set from Amazon, thanks to all this Hoodie revival talk! I think I'll watch the Extended Edition of Prince Of Thieves now to celebrate. Whoop whoop whoop!

See, in 1984 I was only 3, so I'm more of a Maid Marian kinda gal.

Saying that, my husband was 20 in 1984.

That's creepy.

Having watched the series 1 dvd last week I can happily say your wrong. It's as good as it was when it origionally aired. The greatest kids tv ever made. A little dated now in terms of music but otherwise its still great. Now all they need to do is release the other 3 series.

I've been watching it recently on ITV3 (didn't actually watch it much when it was originally on as we were always in coming back from Gran's when it was on) and actually quite like the slightly poor film quality. It adds ambience. Kind of makes you feel it really is the 12th century.
Well, it does to me anyway.
The other thing, which was a trait of 80s dramas anyway, is the incredibly long spells of no dialogue. It's all scenary, looks and music. But again, I quite like that. It feels more natural. The new series will probably have a much faster pace to it. They've dropped the slowest character Friar Tuck from the series, no doubt for logistic reasons. But I'm sure that majorly fucks up the story, doesn't it?

Poo! I just read an article somewhere about "updating" older series to be more accessible to the modern audience. It mentioned dropping Friar Tuck. I think they gave the impression that he's not politically correct or his character or somthing like that.

Then god knows what they would do to Robin or the Sheriff, if political correctness was the reason.
Regarding RoS, the Clannad music was one thing that helped it. Proper music that is sympathetic to a film or TV series can make all the difference. B5's music, or that in Lord of the Rings are prime examples.

The other option with a character that isn't perceived to fit in with modern sensibilities is to write him or her out completely, as the BBC is doing in a new Robin Hood series. There will be no Friar Tuck, because, said insiders, he "is a bit of a laughing stock". Fat is no laughing matter nowadays.
