Total Film has released their top-100 list.I don't quite agree with some of their choices, but, as with all of these lists, it's just someones opinion.
Anyway, I'd say more, but I have to run to a haircut right now, so I'll blab on about this at length later this evening...

the list is not only someones opinion, it's simply unlogical, coz they count the Lord of the Ring-Trillogy as one and part Godfather in Part I and II and let it have two places. I think Godfather I and II as an unity as The Lord of the Rings-Movies, even if they are not produced at the same time.

That's a good point. And that's the way they're aired, often, on television, as The Godfather: The Complete Saga. Minus Part III, of course.

Or as they did on the hundred greatest on Channel 4 have Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back together (at number 1) but no other sequels combined ie Godfather & Raiders.
The fact that Star Wars isn't number 1 gives it a little bit of credibility, but no Seven Samurai, Alien, The Genera or Scindler's List (to name a few)...and no films from the East at all that I can see (though I did only quickly scan it)

His Girl Friday at number 10 but no sign of Bringing Up Baby (quite possibly the greatest screwball comedy of all time) in the whole list? Some mistake surely?
Number 2 seems like a ridiculously lofty spot for Vertigo too (hohoho). I'd've placed Rear Window, Strangers On A Train, North By Northwest, The 39 Steps & Psycho all above that from the Hitchcock canon.
Didn't spot Gregory's Girl in the list either. Shame.

So let's start our own list of alternative movies (far away from the usual suspects of such lists):
in no speicial order my first proposal is:
Fulci's "Non si deve profanare ol sonno dei morti", 1974 aka L'Aldila (or whatever)

Yeah, Vertigo at #2 is a bit

. I just watched this movie this week, so it's fresh in my mind. There is no way that this is even the best Hitchcock. I have seen it several times and only now am I truly beginning to appreciate it.

Where is the threat? (here is a good place for a second threat with that theme)
Which Hitchcock is better than Vertigo? And don't say "The man who knew too much"

North By Nortwest? Psycho? Rear Window?

Marnie?
No, that's just a personal favourite I think!
'Rear Window' is clearly the best Hitch film.
I'm still calling my daughter Marnie though.

MAYBE Rear Window. It's the only one close to Vertigo. And Psycho has it own qualities, but is not THAT good.

North by Northwest, or Rear Window, for me. Where do we place Notorious, though?

NO NO Notorious

At least it's original as a list - it's nice to break out of the normalcy of making LOTR, Godfather or Star Wars the best film. I would disagree with a couple of the choices - Jaws is #2 when Usual Suspects scrapes in at #96?? - but it could be worse. At least they'er showing a willingness to choose films that they themselves think are great, as oppose to appealing to public choices (like when Empire put all 3 LOTR films in the top 10 when they did a list last year).

Personally I think Rear Window is the best. Psycho, Rope, & The Birds are some of my other favorites. The scene with the birds on monkey bars has to be
THE greatest scene ever.
I still haven't seen Rebecca or Saboteur which I hear are pretty great also.

I've seen Rebecca. I know it's supposed to be great & all but I thought it was a bit heavy-going really. Definitely wouldn't be in my top 10 Hitch films anyway.

I've got to go for Vertigo. Every time I see it I get more from it - especially how perverse and disturbing the Jimmy Stewart character is.

Oh, I totally agree too. But as I said, it's taken quite a few viewings for me to really appreciate it.
