"Torchwood will be a dark, clever, wild, sexy, British crime/sci-fi paranoid thriller cop show with a sense of humour - the X Files meets This Life," says Russell T Davies.

QUOTE
"It's a renegade bunch of investigators charged by the British government to find alien technology that has fallen to Earth," BBC Three controller Stuart Murphy told The Independent.

Now I know it's a full term away, but a thread will appear at some time, so why not now?

I reckon fantastic storylines, witty humour, fabulous effects and wicked baddies.

I also reckon this all happens before the Doctor and Rose meet Jack for the first time in war torn London. I reckon that the agency that wiped stuff from his mind, is in fact, part of the Torchwood storyline.

Now this thread will go to sleep for 9 months...

Or, they could pick up with him being abandoned by the Doctor and Rose, still searching for his backstory.

Although, admittedly, now that he no longer has his cool ship, or a Tardis, he doesn't really have any space/time travelling capabilities.
Perhaps he'll just remain in whatever era he's in and do his X-Files/This Life based fooling around there.

Well at least it's still on subject!

Bully for us all!

Henry, The Torchwood gang are from Earth. So somehow Jack will have to be on Earth with em', And he is in series 3 of Doctor Who, so maybe they pick him up then.

He might be a character that was never bron, just keeps getting shuntted around in timeframese, that'd be swell!

Raven
There's quite a bit about this on Outpost Gallifrey, I believe it is a contemporary series set on Earth after Jack escapes from the Daleks on Platform 5 - I don't think there's going to be much in the way of technology etc, it's an X-Files in the Doctor Who universe kinda thing.

I saw throw your bets out on the table early and see which ones are right.

I mean imagine if you had conceived the whole LOST thing from trailers, you'd be bonkers!

-m0r
PrincessKate
I didn't realise until I was informed of it by the Radio Times, but it's a rather clever anagram.
Raven
Anyway, the big news of the evening - did anyone else see the Torchwood trailer after Robin Hood?

I thought it looked quite the biz! smile.gif
NiteFall
Doctor Who - The Doctor + (Sex + Violence )^2 x Later timeslot = Torchwood

Although I hope it's better than that equation makes it seem.
maian
i was quite impressed by the trailer, though I now think of it as CSI: Who.
Llama
My philosophy teacher keeps singing the countdown of how long there is to go at me because he knows I love Who. So even though I wasn't that keen on the idea initially, and haven't seen the trailer yet, I think I may have to give it a watch.
feckless_dykey_prostitute
I was very impressed with the trailer, it does look rather exciting.
fatseff1234
When's it airing?
NiteFall
22nd, 9:00, BBC Three.

I'm impressed that there's a nice pre-watershed adventure- type advert and a post 10pm blood, guts & lesbianism one too.

20 quid says that there'll be a crossover with the Doctor at some point in time.

Here's hoping.
NiteFall
I'm hoping for a Chris Ecclestone Doctor appearance. I just think it would be fun and unexpected is all.
DOD-MDK
When is it airing in the states. Thats all I need to know.

Never, probably.
thirtyhelens
Yeah, there's a possibility that because the current run of Doctor Who is doing respectable ratings for SciFi that they'll pick up Torchwood, but I wouldn't count on it. Who at least had name recognition going into the deal, and even then it took them a whole damn year to pick it up.
purple prole
The States will possibly get it but I wouldn't be holding your breath. The BBC haven't even decided what's happening with it here yet. Sure it starts on BBC3 next week, and is planned to appear on BBC1 sometime after. But they haven't decided on a date for it to be on BBC1.
It's a weird set up. On the one hand they're advertising it quite regularly as if they're full of confidence about it. Yet on the other it's been stuck on a digital channel first, which usually is a trick to see how well received a show is before it gets promoted to a proper BBC channel.
Wife Of Rolex
I've read that it'll be repeated on BBC2, rather than BBC1, on Wednesday's at 9pm.

The second trailer suggests it's going to be non-stop people-being-chucked-against-walls-and-snogged-against-their-will.

Niiiice.
Zoe
I think it looks shit.

Doctor Who - Doctor + metrosexual idiot = shit.

I'll still watch it though.
NiteFall
Will Torchwood be to Doctor Who what Angel was to Buffy the Vampire Slayer? laugh.gif
Zoe
I didn't watch Angel.

Buffy TVS - Buffy + demon law firm x my least favourite characters = shit.
NiteFall
So
Doctor Who - The Doctor + Secret Evil Government Agency x Minor Bit Part Characters = ???
Zoe
shit, yes.

Russell T Davis is a talentless buffoon, his success at the BBC seems to be a case of the Emperor's New Scripts.

'Doctor Who' worked because it always worked, it worked in spite of his terrible ideas and clunky dialogue, not because of it.
Starscream`s Ghost
Well, after the third season, RTD is supposed to be leaving the writing side of Who, so we'll see what happens there.

That's quite good news since he has done wonders in getting the show going again but he has consistently provided weak episodes. If he just sticks to the running of the show and lets the rest of them get on with it I'm sure we'll see far more balanced series.
purple prole
Short review of first episode

Not much detail but they liked it. I think. And what could the revelation about Jack be I wonder?
NiteFall
I'm guessing either something to do with the 2 years that the Time Agency wiped from his memory or something to do with him getting back to present-day Cardiff from whatever-the-hell year it was space station place.
monkeyman
I reckon hes an alien
Drifter
I just realised that Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who - I know, I am slow.... huh.gif

First episode been and gone. Good no?

Second episode so good so far!
GundamGuy_UK
I thought that was pretty good really. Different to Who, but entertaining.

I like the themetune too.
NiteFall
I liked it. Good initial setup, some good Who-referencing backstory, some nice arc-plot-setuppery and decent dtory, scripts and acting. 7/10, some room for improvement.
GundamGuy_UK
The scripts were better than RTD's Who outings, I thought.
shinyelvenqueen
I was very impressed. I certainly wasn't expecting the swearing and lewdness. So it gets a 9/10 from me. Looking forward to the coming episodes (no pun intended)
