This is a top film and does for possession what Supersize Me did for McDonalds. Anyone who is vaguely interested in the paranormal, being scared or just seeing a young woman being tormented by demons, should go and see this.

Set in a court room and based on a true story the film tells the tale of Exorcism of Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter), from her initial possession right through to the unsuccessful exorcism carried out by her local parish priest Father Moore (Tom Wilkinson). Erin Bruner (Laura Linney) is the defence lawyer trying to prove that Emilys death was not due to criminal negligence on the part of Father Moore but due to demonic possession… yup, try convincing a jury of that one. Perhaps in England you’d get away with it but in America… well I won’t say any more because that would just spoil it.

Initially diagnosed as being Schizo-Epileptic (and yes the doctor does admit to making up that condition) Emily turns to her Priest to help her when it seems certain the treatment doctors are offering is not helping.

The film is well paced and does not dwell on any points for too long, neither does it leave you wondering “but I thought she was just a bit weird”.

Top acting by Jennifer Carpenter makes for some very disturbing scenes and me, a 24 year old well rounded individual, reaching for the hall way lights on getting home.

If you enjoyed Stigmata, you will love this.

I think the case it was based on was in Italy. I don`t think a British Jury would buy it. Besides, exorcisms are technically Illegal in England and Wales due to a very old law that says its illegal to kill a ghost. The reason being that someone used it very succesfully as his defence plea for murdering his mate. He said he was sure his friend was a spectre and got away with it.

i don't get that - in england you can get away with blaming a death on demonic possession? really? thats useful to know.

They should put that^ quote on the poster for the film. It would surely increase the box office by at least 3 buys.

They should put that^ quote on the packaging for a light switch. It would surely increase the buy rate by 900% (so long as they include a picture of Pots' smiling face, and the quote coming out of it in a speech bubble).
