I didn't doubt you in the first. I was just surprised that there were so many.
And, yeah, I'd like to see Viggo win, and Javier Bardem was absolutely riveting in NCFOM, so he ought to have a good chance of the supporting actor award...
Casey Affleck is outstanding in The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford, though, so I think it could be between those two for the award.
Though it does seem to be similar to Forest Whitaker being nominated for the Best Actor awards for the Last King of Scotland since Affleck, despite having much more screen time, is being nominated for Supporting Actor awards for TAOJJBTCRF.

I almost didn't get to see it but events transpired that resulted in me having had three days off work that I otherwise wouldn't have and that provided the perfect opportunity. It's a really fantastic film.

No massive surprises there, though I must admit that the Best Director win did take me by surprise since everyone had been predicting the Coens or P.T. Anderson would win. The fact that no single film dominated the main awards probably isn't going to be much help for people trying to predict the Oscars.

I am absolutely thrilled that 'Atonement' came out tops. It was probably my favourite film of last year (or at least tied with 'The Darjeeling Limited') and certainly the most moving piece of cinema I've seen in recent years.
It was also beautifully made, Joe Wright is a very exciting British talent.
Hooray for 'Extras' too.

Frankly, I would have been shocked if Javier Bardem hadn't won. His performance as Chigurh in No Country for Old Men was one of the best I've seen in any film in many years. I can hardly believe this is the same guy who broke our hearts in Mar Adentro not so long ago.

I'd liked to see Gleeson or Farrell win for In Bruges, it's great that they both got nominated since their's really is a double-act in which one is just as good as the other. That will probably work against them, though, and split the vote, which would be a real shame.

Great nod for James Franco in Pineapple Express, he was absolutely hilarious and more than deserves this. even more deserving when you think that most of the movie wasn't scripted, and it was him and Rogen ad-libbing. For a guy not really known as a comedy actor, he was absolutely top-drawer. I haven't seen tropic thunder yet though so i'll have to hunt it down and see this Cruise performance i've heard oh so much about.

Interesting to see so many nominations for Revolutionary Road and The Reader, which are the sort of dramas the HFPA seems to lavish every year though they hardly ever win anything - both have had mixed buzz so far - and virtually nothing for Milk outside of Penn's expected nom, which is a shame as I saw it Wednesday night and it's flippin' tremendous.
Expect Recount to clean up the TV noms, it did at the Emmys. (And deservedly so.)

Not too many surprises, though the lack of nominations for The Lovely Bones is telling. The nominations for Up in the Air have made me even more excited about seeing it when I get hold of the BAFTA screener copy at work this week.

Some of those are funny but nothing too strange or weird. Yay to Matt Damon and Christoph Waltz and Carter Burwell/Karen Orzolek.
Anna Paquin for True Blood? She is the worst one in it! Hahaha. It should be Glenn for Damages.

I really thought In The Loop would have one or two surprise nominations.
If Christoph Waltz doesn't win there is no justice in this world
Whilst very happy Hall & Lithgow are nominated for Dexter, no nomination for Jennifer Carpenter is almost criminal.
I love Clooney (yes , love. Almost a Stath level of love) but it'd be nice to see Colin Firth get a gong.
Sally Sparrow for the win.
