Firstly, there isn't one of these is there? I have looked and proved unsuccessful so I'm going with a resounding "No."

There are many of us on this forum who have a soft spot for this particular series, so (despite it having come to an end, at least for th time being) let this be a place where all can come and discuss it. (3rd season spoilers approprately tagged, of course.) biggrin.gif

I'd like to start by querying GOB being George Oscar Bluth II, Making George Sr George Oscar Bluth I. However, Oscar is, of course, also George's twin's name. Has this been explained in the series and I've just missed it, or is it an in-joke of some description?

EDIT: Tsk. First post and a stupid spelling mistake.

I'd say it's probably something of a reference to John Ellis "Jeb" Bush.
gulfcoast_highwayman
There's not much finer than GOB performing his magic with 'The Final Countdown' blaring away in the background, unless it's The Fonz as the world's worst lawyer.

Please, please, please let it get picked up again. It's unlikely I'll ever have kids but I'll put any potential first born up for grabs if it willl help.
Omniscia
And Franklin is delightfully non-PC. "It ain't easy bein' white... It ain't easy bein' brown... All this pressure to be bright... I've got children all over town! Sometimes... Hey, where'd the guy go?"
Julie
Arrested Development: Brilliant.

Bateman: HAWT.

There's my contribution for the time being, I'm a little fuzzy this afternoon.

No word on a pick-up yet. But the anticipation is maddening...

I was already a big fan of Mr. Cross, so I had to give the series a shot. I am glad I did...F'ing Fox.
zeden
Got the first series last month after reading the ravings of all the fans on here. Watched the lot in 2 days. Turns out that I had seen it before as well, though not knowing what it was at the time. I thought it was okay then, but now I've seen it all and understand what was going, its one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.
Every episode is pure gold.
gulfcoast_highwayman
David Cross is truly the man.

'Okay, Lindsay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over - an analyst and a therapist. The world's first analrapist.'

Call me an old romantic but I really hope George Micheal succeeds in his unnatural cousin lust.
Jessopjessopjessop
I have to say that I've only watched three whole episodes. The first was outstanding. I was overjoyed that something could be so funny and have so much brilliant material packed into it, I could hardly believe it. I watched another some time later and found myself confused at the endless relationship to-ing and fro-ing, the voice-over unnecessary and irritating, and the spark seemingly gone. I watched another and had much the same reaction. Am I ill?

Yes. very.

Does anyone know how we could use a one-armed man to teach Jessop a lesson about good comedy?
zeden
Isn't nearly every program about relationships and the ups and downs that go with them? Admittedly, the voice over at times does seem unnecessary, but it does allow the writers to drop in random flash backs and cutaways whenever they like. No bad thing in my book.
Zoe
I think it's very good, but not the masterpiece it's made out to be by any means. I'll rent the second series and I'm sure enjoy it, but this is never going to reach classic status for me.

On the documentary they said it was 'The Royal Tenenbaums' filmed like 'Cops'... "don't flatter yourself" I thought.

The funniest moment of the whole series was Winkler recreating his Fonzie bathroom mirror comb - but then Winkler's usually the highlight of anything he's in.

SHOWTIME FOR THE BLUTHS?: Hmm, maybe the fat lady should shut her mouth and take a seat. The New York Post hears brand-new buzz that Showtime has not only picked up Fox's canceled Arrested Development but has ordered a full 26 episodes.

I'd feel a little more secure if it were anyone but the Post. And yet..... happy, happy...

Ohhh, that is good news if it is true. I look forward to in-jokes about it in the style of the 'cut from 22 to 18, bastards!' ones from Season 2.
m0r1arty
Does this program have anything at all to do with the band that sang 'Mr Wendal'?

maian
Very little. Unless there are coded references hidden in it. You'll have to watch it to find out.

Yeah, but wouldn't the Post be in a position to know? After all, they're NewsCorp, too...

That's a good point. Egg on their face, but valid. laugh.gif

Everytime I am about to cancel Showtime, something worth watching comes up.

I don't know, I think Justice walking straight into the Bin in Justice is Blind could be one of the greatest moments ever.

My personal fav it Tobias constantly going to the bathroom to hold the shower over his head and cry.

There's a great moment in the first series, I think it may be in the second episode, where Tobias walks off laughing but as he walks off we can just about hear his laughter turning into tears. That's acting for you. God bless David Cross.
Sean of the Dead
Another great Tobias moment: "Where the fuck are my hard-boiled eggs?"
maian
Followed by the Bluth Sad Walk™.
PrincessKate
I wish they'd put in the ad-lib he put in the cut bits of the pilot episode.
Hey gang - could I play Puerto Rican?
zeden
Just had a rethink. My favorite bit is

Humana humana. Good God she's hot. MMmmmmmmm...

Isn't she going out with Ellen?

Buster climbing out of the trunk in Santa Ana when they drop off Lupe and thinking he's in Mexico is a personal favorite.

She's gay but she obviously goes for something other than looks, and so weirdly, her relationship with Ellen seems to make her more accessable.

Very excited on this one!! I hope they don't change the format of the show any!
Omniscia
Man, I was about to say something, several hours ago, in response to something in this thread, but now I can't remember what it was... It's my fault, though, for leaving the browser open to the Reply window.

Oh, yes, I think I remember, now: I'm off to check with Adelphia to see how much adding Showtime will cost.
PrincessKate
It pisses me off no end that I'm too knackered to stay up and watch it tonight (12.55am? What a crappy time.) But the episodes sound good, not least because I avoided spoilers as much as possible and thus am perplexed by how Frankie Muniz figures into the episode.
Omniscia
Man, did I really actually consider ordering Showtime because of this show? Why didn't I go through with it?

Oh, yeah, that's right: They canceled it! Booooo!

At least it went out before it sucked.

It was very funny.

Maeby had changed the Tunnel of Hell into the Tunnel of Love, Indubitably. Michael took Rita on the Tantamount tour, and they passed the making of Malcolm in the Middle, making the cast move out of the way of the tour bus. Michael says, "Hey cool, it's Malcolm in the Middle", and Frankie says, "yeah, great. Watching the making of the show is more important than making it!"

I really need to watch all of the episodes of this show. I've seen the odd one on BBC2 here and there, but never followed it closely enough.

It really benefits from watching it on a regular basis since it is such a dense show with a hell of a lot of in-jokes. I got into a fairly fierce argument with one of my mates last year when I said it was the best American sitcom of the last few years and he disagreed.

Rent the first series then watch a few episodes in a row; it's the best way to watch it.
monkeyman
Out of interest what did your friend bring to the table as the best sitcom from the past few years? or did he just say Arrested Development wasn't it and didn't give his own favourite?
zeden
Beside Curb Your Enthusiasm and My Name Is Earl I'm struggling to think of any decent American sitcoms from the last couple of years.
monkeyman
Curb? Though that's not your usual Sitcom I guess.

The second argument. He didn't specifiy a better sitcom as being the best but he just kept refuting my claims that Arrested Development was a great show. He mentioned Curb but I pointed out to him that Curb is not a ''sitcom'' in the traditional sense either in terms of acting or writing.
zeden
Calling Curb a sitcom is a bit of a stretch, but I was lost for ideas.

Sounds like your chum deserves the very strongest of verbal lashings for such foolery. To say the Arrested Development isn't great is just plain stupid. I've yet to show it to anyone I know and not have them love it, something that has never happened in all my dvd loaning days. The fact that he couldn't come up with anything says it all really.

Think I might start over at the begining again and watch season 1 and 2 through in preparation for when season 3 comes out.
