A short history . .
A long long time ago, well 1997, a group of Star Wars fans made a fan film/spoof that placed a platoon of Stromtroopers on a Cops style TV show as we follow them about thier duties on Tatooine. The show was called Troops.
I.M.P.S
Imperial Military Personel Stories (or I.M.P.S) continues the idea of a television show that follows the men and women of the Imperial Forces as they go about thier duties. Displaying that, yes they may well enforce the will of a power mad dictator but to them it's just a job.
To any Star Wars fan this will be geek nirvana, Blacksheep productions does very well on a small budget to produce some very good CGI effects (like those seen in the stunning opening) however the CGI does not fair so well when mixed with live action occasionally coming across as being a bit Lexxish (no offence to Lexx fans). The writing is consistant and funny with the various troopers coming across as being like any jaded person in a job they hate and some funny banter between the Stormtroopers and Scouttroopers that reveals some office politics between the two divisions. The few references to other non-Star Wars related things are noticeable (Pulp Fiction and Ghostbusters being the most obvious to my mind) but not grating with a cameo appearance by two of Sci-Fi's biggest monsters making this appear to be too much like a fan boy's wet dream. The biggest draw back with this, one lapse in acting ability aside, is that some times background noise and music drowns aout the main dialogue.
We can only hope that Lucas's Star Wars television project turns out to be as interesting and fun to watch as this.
Well Recomended
