And you call yourself Gobstopper's Official New York Correspondent?
Unbelievable.
You've got competition apparently. Last week a mail was received from a mysterious girl who lives in Canada. It'll be part of the show this week. You'll have to raise your game or we'll have a new North American Correspondent.....
Hey, I'm not trying to be the correspondent for whole of North America, I just cover the best city in the world.

And anyway, I've been busy. I do work two jobs at the moment you know.

Brilliant bit.

"I don't know, smell it!"
"It has absolutely NO smell whatsoever."

somebody is saving it. It'll turn up in something."

Looks like the schedule is settling down now at Sure and, as a result, my show is back on Saturdays from 1 til 3 from now on.
This week's edition will probably feature talk of subtext in Disney films, Civil rights pioneer who was a bit of a nutter Marcus Garvey, discussion of what we will have gotten up to at a Hallowe'en party the night before and general goodness. On the music side I'm planning to do a quick recap of the work of Mos Def, partially as the result of a brief conversation with SEQ on here but also because he's got a new album out soon and I don't play nearly enough of his stuff.
Or we may be too hungever to talk. Though Natalie has promised to bring in biscuits to make up for the fact she couldn't make it last week, which will be nice.

Heehee! More people need to be made aware of the mighty Carlin.
I've been enjoying Scott Mills this week and last, while he has been covering for Chris Moyles. In fact, I've always enjoyed the show more when it isn't Moyles - Mills has a far better sense of humour in my book. Regardless of what you may think of Radio 1, there have been some exceptional moments over the past fortnight, including the delightfully naff 'Hoffmania'. But the highlight for me has to be Wednesday's episode -

I meant to say a few posts back - despite the fact that I seem to be slagging it off at every possible chance, I really do love the show. It's the Middlesbrough accents that keep me coming back every time; I've got a bit of a lady-crush on Karen Slater's voice.

Bless your little socks. Karen's dead lovely, I'm led to believe she's been bigging me up to the new station controller. She also texted me on Saturday night to inform me that the tribute act were called "Coldplace" - not one of the names I suggested last Wednesday.

Chuckling along to yesterday's Penn Jillette podcast - he's in NYC this week, he's got Gilbert Gottfried on with him and he's sat in front of a laptop, on IMDb, mercilessly taking the piss out of GG's resume. And Gilbert's right there along with him.
"Let's say someone is captured by Al Qaeda, the Geneva Convention's been thrown out the window, they've been waterboarding this GI for like 40 days, and he comes up and they say 'We've got one last thing that will break you' - which Gilbert Gottfried movie should they show him?"
The excellent Russell Brand radio show (or the 'Matt Morgan Show' as it's known by some) moves to
Radio 2. He has a new Saturday night slot, which is typical as I've just got digital TV and was looking forward to listening to his Sunday show live, rather than Monday at work. It all seems rather sudden, as there was no mention of it on last week's show.
His last 6Music show will be this Sunday.
Speaking of which, you can listen again to Russell's charity gig recorded live last night in Camden

so, is russell howard funny and who is he?
He's a stand-up, he's very funny, he's a bit like Luke in mannerisms and appearance (but older and blonder and with closer together eyes). When an awful woman started heckling about the amount of swearing in 'Edinburgh and Beyond' (that Russell was compering at our theatre) he called her a 'dreary cow', which made me smile.
He's been on 'Mock the Week' a lot recently.
I read something in the paper this weekend where Richard Herring said something about him being the best young stand-up in the country; but I can't remember where or what he said exactly.

On tonight's Gobstopper featuring Shack:
"Lead singer of Johnny Cash tribute turn "Keep It Cash" - DAVE BURNHAM.
Live music from one girl and her cello - top contemporary folk star LAURA HEWISON.
The head honchos of Teesside's bohemian restaurant and music venue the Waiting Room - LUKE HARDING and DAVE ALLEN.
Plus we're joined live from the Big Apple by a Gobstopper musical favourite, currently playing a handful of gigs in New York - acclaimed North-Eastern singer-songwriter BELLYLAUGH."
That's the advertising blurb out of the way. If you like listening to two men and a girl talk piffling toss for 3 hours, it's the show for you.
