Hey - Nemone on 6Music just read out my e-mail re: playing a track from Charlotte Gainsbourg's album for "Choice Cuts". Huzzah!

Am I allowed to come on and do a shameless Gobstopper plug, as I'm by myself tonight and feel all lonely? Peter "Ever Decreasing Circles" Egan, Norman "Red Dwarf" Lovett and Feargal "Don't make me get on that aeroplane, Noel" Sharkey are all on the show tonight. No, really.

I'm also looking for "senior moments" to be e-mailed in, I want moments of hilarity inspired by the antics of your parents, grandparents, elderly friends and neighbours. Inspired by my hearing a story of one chum who's Nan told him "I phoned you at the weekend, but it must have been a bad line as you didn't seem to be able to hear me".

She'd been speaking to his answerphone.

gobstopper@bbc.co.uk if you fancy contributing, I've actually got a load of new Manga DVDs to give away to one lucky sociopath loner out there. smile.gif

Gobstopper on BBC Radio Cleveland 95FM from 7-10pm tonight, or online at www.bbc.co.uk/tees.
Shack
That means you're doubly on your own as Miniature G AND Karen aren't on the show.

I can review Idlewild from the weekend over the phone in the last half hour, but bear in mind I'll probably be sat in my underpants.

Awww, poor Bob. I can't listen from work as I got a new computer and was forbidden to download anything, and it doesn't have RealPlayer on it. Hope it's a goodun though.

Last show before Easter tonight. Expect to hear stuff from Aphex Twin, Kate Bush, The Hours, Radiohead, The Smiths, QOTSA. All sorts really.

Nnngh. *feels conflicted*
maian
No need to feel conflicted, my show is on directly before Gobstopper.
Stella MM
Hurrah!

Now that's what I call conflict resolution. Irsael and Palestine, take note.

EDIT: And Israel, too.

Radio 4 have been replaying The Ape that Got Lucky, a spoof anthropology show by Chris Addison (the nerdy but unnervingly attractive one from The Thick of It). Funnier than it has any right to be, the fourth and last episode is on Listen Again until this Wednesday.

MrStella bought me this very fabby DAB digital radio for my birthday so now I can listen to 6Music all day as I potter about the place. Hurrah! I love 6Music, it's like to was made especially for people who feel to clever for Radio 1 but too young for Radio 2.
Shack
On tonight's Gobstopper spectacular:

- Music and live singing and that from Suzanne Marron...
- On the phone chitchat with chart legend John Otway...
- Live in the studio for football discussion, it's Anthony Vickers from the Evening Gazette and
- this weeks "Little Legend" is Newsround and Swap Shop favourite, John Craven.

Something for everyone there I think...

This weeks topic of choice, after Freddie Flintoff fell out of a pedalo while in the West Indies, we're doing holiday disasters/mishaps. E-mail your stories to:

gobstopper@bbc.co.uk

Shackfans may hear the now infamous "Shack's holiday break up" story, but I've also got one about jelly shoes and one about Bournemouth pier.

See my signature for the linky poo.

I might only mention it in passing, I wheeled it out on Valentines Day... Don't want to give it overexposure.
dandan
i'd email in about when i crashed a scooter, but that's just a nasty tale, filled with blood and pain...
Shack
If you don't e-mail in the story about the plunger in Barcelona I'm telling it on your behalf.
dandan
i'd forgotten about that, feel free to tell...

"it's my brother, johnny!"

still sends a shiver down my spine...

It also gives me an opportunity to dust down my possibly racist Spanish accent.

Yes. Although my accent, it could be argued, was more Italian.

We're not quite big enough. Once my picture appears in the Guardian though, we'll have tens of new listeners. You can listen again online (repeat ad nauseum)

So which issue are you in Shack?

Not sure. I'll be in the "Graduate" section, which comes along with the Media section on a Monday. Could well be next Monday.

I saw some of the photo's last night. I look VERY pasty.

Danny Baker's podcast is on Itunes and it's free.

I'd recommend it, it's top notch. I particularly enjoyed the Pink Panther theme tune.
dandan
baker, shmaker...

i want shack's gobcast...
Jimmay
Just hear The Twang on Radio 1.

So, are they meant to be a U2 and The Stone Roses tribute band?
maian
Listening back to Gobstopper now, very entertaining show indeed. Shame I didn't listen on the night because I could have told the story about how I almost got eaten by piranhas on holiday once.

Also, with regards to that very nice girl who sang a pretty song, 6,000 word dissertation? Pah.
Zoe
I've been downloading the podcasts of Russell Brand's 6Music show and listening to them on the walk to and from work. Apart from making me look like a giggling maniac, it's reminded me how good the glory days were. It's just not the same without Trevor being forced to eat lemons, or Russell's hair or serenading Noel Gallagher with a country version of 'Don't look back in Anger'. The bullying Trev dynamic is sorely missed on Saturday nights.

You can bask in the glory days here.

I'm bound to get punched one day by someone who thinks I'm laughing at them in the street.
dandan
think i might download them when i get home. thanks...

Dean Andrews and Marshall Lancaster on Radio Manchester.
HEH.
EDIT: They read out my e mail.... Squee doesn't cover it.

Lovin' the Stephen Merchant show on 6music. Very relaxed and easy going sunday afternoon atmosphere. Just what you need after a nice carvery.

On tonight's mystical and magical Gobstopper show:

We’re joined once again by a legendary Timperley light entertainer recently returned from New York – hang onto your papier mache head, it’s FRANK SIDEBOTTOM!

We also speak live to a cult Irish stand-up comedian whose starring role in Father Ted (as the utterly boring Father Stone) has granted him legendary status – he’s MICHAEL REDMOND.

Plus we’ve live music and exotic instruments in the studio from psychedelic folk duo SAL PARADISE, and we’ll also be joined by London pop starlets ESKIMO DISCO ahead of their dates on Teesside this weekend!

Plus this week’s “Little Legends” feature sees us once more catching up with one of our TV heroes – as we’re joined live from Blackpool by legendary 70s piano-tinkler BOBBY CRUSH!

This week our hot topic is fashion disasters. Send your pictures and/or descriptions of your fashion nightmares to us at:

gobstopper@bbc.co.uk

And you can listen online if you use the link in my signature.....

Happy listening.

I guess we'll have to imagine he does because he'll be on the phone. I like to think he wears it alllll the time (except in the shower obviously).

I've got a beaut for ya.

I'd like to big up Adam & Joe's Coke New Music podcasts (search for 'Coke new music' in Itunes). They're about 30 to 45 minutes long and feature six tracks by promising unsigned bands and well as the usual Adam & Joe sillyness, a mixture of music and comedy. Or musedy, as I like to call it.

I was going to type "comedic?" but that actually is a word.

Me love Adam and Joe - I'll have a snifter tomorrow night when I'm free.

Awww, crap. My computer at new work doesn't have speakers yet.

Have a good show!

Back on air this week with a soul special. By which I mean there will be a bit more soul music than usual mixed in amongst the rest of the good stuff.
logger
I hope Shaun Keaveny is gone from 6 music by the end of the year. I hated him on xfm, I even hate his voice.
Julie
My god, this is beautiful.

Schubert's 2nd Piano Trio. And amazing Canadian artists composing popish songs based on it. I went to the concert last month, I nearly wept. (Such a geek, I know)

If anyone wants to hear it, still, it's on www.cbc.ca/radio2 Just listen live to whatever part of "Canada Live" is still streaming. Do it now!

Thankfully, after a while on his lonesome. Mark Radcliffe starts a new show with Stuart McConie on monday night (Radio 2).

Just as well, it seems like he's missed Lard badly. He needs people to spark off.

I still think McConie rightfully belongs with Collins.

Who has also finished his solo show on 6music. Where has he gone instead? If anywhere?
maian
Guy Garvey's Finest Hour is just starting on 6Music and he's just played Young Folks and is talking rather shambolically. Now all I have to do is form a big selling, critically acclaimed band and I could get a real radio job!
maian
I'm on air now if anyone wants to listen. Playing a mix of Smiths, Ennion Morricone, Pavement, Go! Team, Tom Waits and all sorts of good stuff.

Link is in my signature if anyone fancies listening in.
