Full Version: Name that Tune
Spaced Out Forum > Media > Music
The Mystery Machine
It's not new. I'd say it's at least 3-4 years old. It was used in an advert for "A Touch of Frost". It was used on Football Focus..I think. It's one of those tunes that pops up in the background of decorating programmes all the time.
It's a dance music tune. It is a trumpet break. Short, stabby, 'parps' (I believe is the correct trumpeteering term), all the same length, and a bassline.
It goes...
da-da dada dada da-da
da dada da-da da

It may have some connection with Portishead DJ Andy Smith(he plays it? It's not on any Document albums). Then again it may not.

Are you by any chance thinking of "Will you go to bed with me?" by Touch & Go, released about 2000-2001ish?
Wife Of Rolex
I know there was a track by a band called Elevator Suite used on Football Focus for a while around 2000-2002, but I don't know the title. But the tune you describe sounds like it goes along them lines.

No I'm fucking not. Gaaahh you've put it in my head!
At least you made the effort and for that I am grateful.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure it's totally instrumental. Elevator Suite possibles all have vocals...the search continues.

Yeah maybe..."Man in a Towel" seemed most likely from the reviews.

First thing I could think of which popped into my head...

instrumental.....trumpets......da da dada da da da biggrin.gif then it must be:

Reach Up (Pig Bag) by Perfecto Allstarz

DJ Paul Oakenfold is responsible for this song....it was released in 1995.....

It sampled Papa's Got A Brand New Pig Bag by Pig Bag and was a successful early 1980's hit...the jazz band even appeared on TOTP

Its also used as a theme by a couple of football teams before matches and on TV a fair bit....

A sample:

HOPE THIS IS IT.....JUST SPENT A BIT OF TIME DOUBLE CHECKING AS MY MEMORY CAN BE POOR sad.gif
The Mystery Machine
Again, I do appreciate your effort but that is possibly the worst thing Paul Oakenfold has ever been associated with.
This part of the (admittedly limited description) is key.....
"Short, stabby, 'parps' (I believe is the correct trumpeteering term), all the same length"
...that's all the same length. Think of the trumpet in "Walk on By" as sung by Dionne Warwick. It's not a chart record...erm...

Hang on. That rings a bell. How about 'Soul Vibration' by J-Walk.

It's just finding somewhere I can hear stuff...
There's nowhere with elevator suite samples.

I often see Martin Brew of said musical outfit wandering round our way. I've met him many times but he never lets on to me.

It was the Walk On By description that did it. I've actually got it on cd. Like a face, I never forget a tune. Glad to have been of service. biggrin.gif

Right, now that one's solved, perhaps someone can help me out with this one that's been bothering me for about a year.

In the trailer for the Will Smith movie Hitch there's a bit of music I'd like to know the name of. I think it's probably fairly famous. It sounds like a slick, jazzy horn section going "Duuuuu-dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun du-nu-nu-nuun, dun dun dun dun dun-dun duuuuuuuu-nun". Then you hear a man singing for a bit, and he might be Stevie Wonder. I'm not sure. I can't find the song in Stevie Wonder's back catalougue, but I've far from performed an exhaustive search.

The song in question does not appear in the film Hitch, as far as I'm aware. I reckon the song must be at least 10 years old.

Does anyone know what it is?

Yes, I'd say you are. That was the Stevie Wonder tune on the page I found. Next!

I went to Sony and watched the trailer smile.gif, nice site BTW, will come in very handy.

Okay the Nissan Micra advert that's on just now with the raindrops that fall from the sky and chase the car but fall foul to the glass roff. What is the tune that plays there. It sounds a bit spyie

As an aside, I watch Logans run the other day and noticed that when Logans old friend, the ther Sandman, finds him with the old man and start to fight the tune from Predator is played (well a very good similarity)

In a parallel universe where I didn't answer this thread you'd still be trying to find out what is was laugh.gif

Well done to Wife Of Rolex cool.gif

Sir Robin and m0r, you were right. Thanks very much - I'm ordering it now.

Thread revival.

Need help to identify a tune. I was in a shop yesterday and there was a great dance track playing. It was fresh and happy with a female vocal and funky baseline. It had the chorus line of "It's about us," with emphasis on the "Us," which was repeated a couple of times. Can't remember too much about the other lyrics but they were along the lines of "I knew when I saw you..." etc.

Not much to go on granted, but any ideas would be great.
