Full Version: Ed in SOTD

Hi all.

I don't know if this line of thought has been discussed here before I joined, but
here goes....

Has anyone noticed the little hints in "SOTD" that Ed seems to have a little crush
on Shaun's mum? wub.gif
e.g.
In the bit with Shaun's plan, you see Ed dip his biscuit in Barbara's tea, & he's
always sitting next to her in all 3 versions.
Also, he puts his hand on her shoulder when the zombies all come up to the pub
windows.
Plus, he's always really nice to her.

I just think it's cute! happy.gif
Your thoughts?.......

Feel the love.

I think it's quite obviously one of those 'fancying your friend's mum' things that some boys go through at school, so he feels some kind of affection towards her even now.

And of course, she's like butt-er.
frostitute
I thought he was gay.

I mean like, cmon. I GOT WOOD?

Like, SO DO I

I'm going to have to recalibrate how I took the film now....you might just have a point there dolyfyn.

Exactly. To be honest, my best mate's mum still is teh sex, and if I ever had the chance...yeah, I reckon I would.
Crutch
That's the best thing I read since we agreed that Spaced's Sophie is a lesbian.

I think, that Ed only tries to hit on the mum, because he can't have Shaun himself.

I always found it funny how Ed pushes Liz away from him when she pulls him away from the pub machine... omg can't remember what they're called?!... when he asks her for a quid and the machine starts up and makes a really loud noise and she jumps on him to pull him away from it.... they mention it in the cast commentary.... anyway... that's kinda gay?

And the way he's clawing at Shaun when they're singing White Lines... and the way he's dancing behind him in the flat.... and when Shaun calls him babe...

Ooer.
m0r1arty
By all accounts then I must be gay.

I don't like people touching me unless I'm incredibly intimate with them unless I'm drunk in which case me and my mates will walk up the road doing the monkees (granted that's a while back now) or say 'you know I'll always be there fer ye!' and the like.

No I reckon the mum thing was fairly obvious and the Ed/Shaun thing was probably co-dependant due to Shauns difficulty with his step dad and Ed more than likely has issues with discipline, probably from poor parentage*

*Have friend just like Ed you see and there are parallels

That's what I call in-depth and very tenous analysis, m0r!
Zoe
By these standards most men I know are gay.

You're all bummers.
m0r1arty
Does Eds parents enter his mind when everything gets zombiefied? Does he mention his parents once?

Liz mentions hers, Shaun obviously mentions his, Yvonne mentions hers but Ed...nope, not so much as a kahunas worth. Plus he is pretty undisciplined and troublesome, and doesn't hold general values. I'd put it down to parentage.

Or wheat in his diet, or something

I agree with m0r.
It had to happen some time.

It's a very good point, I'm just not sure Pegg and Wright would have thought that much about it when they were writing.

But then again, maybe they did...

Have we all forgotten when Shaun's mum rang and wanted Ed to eat something............ rolleyes.gif Is that considered before or afters?

Ooooooooo delicious........ tongue.gif

you know FRESH you are always one step ahead of me! i was gonna say that same thing but you beat me to it. damn you, now i have to think of something else to say.

as for ed being gay, i dont really think we can judge by his shirt because other sayings for his shirt were consedered: ie: " ____ pussy"( i cant remember if it was love or eat but there was a picture of a cat) and "im here for the blow job" if my memory serves me well.

Yes, I think it's his longing for a lovely motherly figure in his life; but it also
translates into a bit of a crush because of his filthy (naturally) adult male mind. huh.gif

It's all a bit Freudian, isn't it? cool.gif

I do believe that Simon & Edgar would've thought about it a fair bit, coz if you
watch the flip chart bit on the DVD, it shows how much thought they put into all
the characters' backgrounds. Ah, those clever boys! happy.gif

There was also the bit when Shaun's mum says "My Edward, how you've grown", and Ed says a sleazy "Tell me about it" under his breath.

omg, ed isnt gay, he loves shauns mum. "Shes like butt-er
No Guru
Ed... gay... um... no... he's just that classic bloke you went to school with who thinks any emotion, heterosexual or otherwise, is "gay." He pushes Liz away because he's not comfortable with the bodily contact and he makes all the comments about Shaun's mum to A) tease Shaun and B) because of the aforementioned fancying your best mates mum cliché.

I don't think he'd be talking about eating Shaun’s mum out if he was gay
