sorry, bit of a misunderstanding there - they arent releasing a new album, and according to recent reports never could because of the iraq war (?). What i was actually referring to was the above report about panic at the disco moving the exclamation mark, just like gybe did... sorry.

I will. Just for an excuse to shout at the tv, especially when Muse lose out on best live act to Take That.
I've only just found out it's presented by the Osbournes. It's going to be awful.

As did I, despite my protestations of "not giving a monkey's". It was a little difficult to get even remotely excited about any of last night's performances after Prince's live set two years ago, which was the only reason I bothered to watch it then.
But I clearly felt compelled to endure an evening of train wreck telly. With Sharon Osborne's gobshite presenting style, it was precisely that - I cringed when she started telling Vic Reeves to piss off. Just embarrassing.

Pete Doherty was apparently named 'Hero of the Year' at the NME awards. What?!?!? Why. The. Fuck?!?
To me all that seems to have happened here is that the NME are once again telling their 13 year old readership how awesome it is to take drugs - 'look, this bloke in a stupid hat who makes bollocks music keeps sticking needles in his arms... wicked!'.
Cunts.

i know its NME and as such we should just expect them to be shit, but it does bother me that their audience is basically a bunch of kids and they are upholding people like doherty as role-models... i remember they ran an article on the 'nu-rave' scene were they asked bands questions and graded them on how cool they were based on the answers, including things about what kind of pills they took, and ketamine...
i acknowledge that drugs are a big part of the music industry, and if it was a magazine for a more mature readership i wouldnt have a problem, it just seems a bit irresponsible when they are as young as they are...
man i sound old. im gonna go write a letter to the BBC complaining about the amount of ankle visible on Strictly Come Dancing...

I had the chance to go yesterday, and I'm glad I didn't.
I have to say I still read the NME. Not sure why. But I am not surprised that Doherty got
that award from
that publication.
There are so many things wrong with that magazine now. The Editor can't decide whether he wants a well written music paper or Smash Hits. That's excatly what killed Melody Maker.
Maybe it's because I'm a lot older than their target readership, but the standard of journalism and knowledge is much lower than it used to be.
This week they (again) gave away a sheet of stickers even Smash Hits would have been embarrassed to give away.

Stickers? Yay!!
I used to buy NME a lot... but haven't done so now in 3 or 4 years. I think I started to notice the
Smash Hits -ness of it too. Either that or it'd had always been like that & I reached an age where I grew out of it.
I bought Q mostly after that, but haven't been bothered about buying a music mag in the last year and a half...
I still like to hear new music, but I guess I don't seek it out as much as I used to, and rely on the internet more now.
...What sort of stickers?

Feb 29 2008, 01:46 PM
Having given up on NME and Q, I recommend The Word magazine as a source of quality music journalism, covering a diverse range of bands both new and old. It's more orientated towards the middle aged man than the kidz though. Although the letters page sometimes features ones from 14 year olds who've nicked it off their dads and enjoyed it.

So she's not going to say that Glastonbury or any of the other festivals aren't inclusive - as long as you can afford a ticket or wangle a way in via corporate hospitality?
One of the great things about the Proms (and I speak from happy experience) is that you can pay a relatively small amount to be a promenader and get into a concert with great conductors, orchestras and soloists. As a promenader you don't have to dress up or sit in a civilised fashion like regular concert-goers - you're either in the arena - kind of mosh pit fashion - or up in the gallery. It means you can stand up - if you want. If you don't want to stand, as I generally didn't, you can sit or even lie down and let the music and the atmosphere surround you.
Yes, there are some silly rules and traditions (heaven forbid you stand on the wrong side of the yellow line down the middle of the arena), but by and large most promenaders are really friendly, helpful folk.
And yes, the last night's a bit jingoistic and maybe even outdated now, but it's the one part of the Proms that's still relatively untouched from when Henry Wood first launched them over 100 years ago - and is it so wrong to respect tradition in this small way? For all the pomp and flagwaving, there's an awful lot of overseas visitors who enjoy sharing in the moment, waving their own flags. It's harmless.
Next Hodge'll be telling us that we should swap pine trees for Christmas trees because they're not inclusive enough either.

Jay-Z not playing Glastonbury after allThe thing that gets me in that story is the person saying they were only going to the festival to see Jay-Z. It's just quite sad that someone would buy a ticket to a festival that has so many different things going on over its 3 days and they're only interested in
one act.
Interesting thought that Prince might take the spot instead, though.

They're all much too happy to do it. The Holy Bible is a great album, in my opinion, because of its darkest and how uncompromising it is; the band are hardly in the same sort of mindset that they were at the time.

it's a brilliant album but it was of a time and a place. Obviously they're not going to call it 'Holy Bible' (maybe 'The New testament?!) but even still...
They say when things are going right and people praise them they want it to go wrong. All of these things have been said by Nicky wire so they should be taken with a pinch of salt. It could end sounding like ABBA
