I didn't realise the BBC had acquired Heroes until today, so (as I have it on good authority that the existing thread will more than spoil my viewing pleasure!) I'm creating this thread for people to discuss the series as it is aired on the Beeb.
Once an episode has been aired on the Beeb it will be fair game to talk about it here without using spoiler tags, but anyone posting information about up-coming episodes should use tags, or
the original thread, as appropriate.
------------
I'm quite surprised the Beeb has gone for this, their screening of US shows has dropped off quite a bit in past years, could this be a sign of things to come now they have had their charter and licence fee reviews?

Could be. Plus, they might have seen what LOST did for C4, and Prison Break for C5, and thought they might like a bit of it.

I wonder if one of the terrestrial channels will pick up Galactica now?

It's possible. Is it wrong of me to hope that Channel 5 would? They seem to treat their imports very well indeed.

That's true, I hadn't really thought about it that way.
But after their bad treatment of virtually all fantasy/science fiction in the past, I'm concerned about their having acquired Heroes; editing violence, dropping episodes for the snooker, changing the schedule...
Downloads may still be the way to go.

I share that worry too. I'm very tempted to watch the first episode on TV then, if I like it, wait for a dvd release.

But after the good showing of Life on Mars, and an audience BAFTA, the BBC might have changed their thinking on this matter now.

No!
Let's watch it all together, like the good old days of series one 'Lost'. Those were happy times...
If it's on in an evening slot on BBC2, it's unlikely to be moved around much. I don't remember 'The X-Files' being shelved for the snooker.

I sit down every Monday night at 10pm and watch it on my own.
Tom used to come over and watch it with me, but he's gone the download route too and is no longer interested.
*sighs*
There's not much point talking about it in the other thread, because people aren't interested in discussing stuff they saw eight weeks ago. It'll all just be nudges and winks and "you may think that now, but wait till you see this".

It would have been if it was on a Sunday night. I can see what Adam's getting at on this one. The Beeb can be bastards for it.
I reckon they'll do what they did with Torchwood - Sunday - BBC3, Wednesday - BBC2.

They weren't that bad. True, they did cut Buffy, but Farscape, the various incarnations of Star Trek, Quantum Leap etc all went out at the same time each week and were very rarely edited.
It is Channel Four that is the main villian here, they made a real mess of Angel - cutting it to ribbons to show at 6pm - and consistently changing the time slot etc (and they have continued in the same vein with Stargate, Smallville and Enterprise, when it was on, as well).

It was, but there are only three/four weeks a year when the snooker is on anyway, I'm sure people can live with it!

I can't be arsed watching shows when they're actually on telly any more. One episode a week is just rubbish. I usually just wait for DVD release. However, someone lent me Heroes on Thursday and I've already watched 14 episodes since then...
Raven
May 23 2007, 06:49 PM
I've watched quite a few series (Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Smallville, The West Wing etc) on DVD, and it can be good to rip through a series without too much of a break (you certainly pick up on more of the detail if there is an on-going plot line) but, conversely, episodes can often blur together at the same time.
There is something to be said for watching episodes of a good television series once a week though. It wouldn't have been half as much fun to watch Life on Mars through in one hit, and Doctor Who just wouldn't be the same on a strip show either.

I found it rather depressing truth be told. In one sense I couldn't really see it ending any other way, but in another I felt I bit cheated. Also, jumping off a building because you can't face life in the real world (to go and live with a bunch of imaginary friends in the afterlife), is just depressing.
I actually thought the end of the first series was much better, and strangely offered a stronger sense of resolution. Series two left so many unanswered questions and gaping holes in terms of Sam's life in 1973; but then it was only a silly sci-fi cop show.
I prefered the first series, much more fun. It seemed to start to take itself a little too seriously in series two.

You must commit to at least the first three episodes before forming an opinion. It moves slowly as the characters are introduced but then you will be hooked.
If you don't love it after that, you have to hand in your Spaced-Out keys, pack your belongings into a carboard box and leave quietly.

that's exactly why it's brilliant. lost is a meandering melodrama most of the time and reveals little - heroes always feel driven, and answers most of the questions it asks before posing new ones to the viewer. lost would be utterly brilliant if it wasn't such a chore and if the pace was quicker instead of excrutiatingly slow plot revelation. heroes has the benefit of far superior writing, aswell as a gripping premise and superbly executed set pieces. whilst lost has the latter 2, it lacks the first one whilst heroes has it in spades and in my opinion that is what separates the two and makes heroes so undeniably excellent.
