If anyone hasn't seen it Copland is on BBC1 tonight. It's not the greatest film in the world, it's certainly not the worst, and it has a great supporting cast, but the main reason to watch is for Stallone - the man is brilliant in it.

Is that where he's the local copper/sheriff for a town/village inhabited solely by (largely corrupt) police officers? You're right, it's not the greatest film in the world.
Few things are, I do think it's great though.
Annoying to have to go to bed 40 minutes into it, I'd forgotten how much I like it.

Check this out for a story. My friend Joey Chickenskin wrote a letter to Quentin Thomas on behalf of my housemate Alyssa...
Check out the reply!

Quentin Thomas f'ing rules the school - that is being framed and placed on a prominent wall in the cockpit.
Just in case you were wondering what prompted this awesomelarious response from the president of the BBFC, here's a transcript of Joey's letter.
QUOTE
Dear Sir Quentin
I am writing to you with a rather curious request.
My friend Alyssa and I are very big film fans and visit the Cinema between two and three times a week. When you see so many films, you probably spend more time scrutinising the film certificates than you might do if you are an occasional visitor.
Having noticed your striking signature and spent some time imagining your work as endlessly watching exciting new releases (I’m sure this fantasy is by no means accurate) we extrapolated this notion to surmise that as the certificates that appear on the screen, appear twenty feet tall, that in order to sign these certificates, you must have to write very large with a very large pen. I assure you that we mean no disrespect by this, it is all in fun.
Ever since we hatched this notion, my friend Alyssa (who is an otherwise sane 25 year old woman), on seeing the film certificate at the beginning of the film, mimes signing the certificate using a huge arm gesture and, of course, starting with your distinctively large ‘Q’.
I appreciate that this is a frivolous use of your time but I’m convinced that it would make my friend Alyssa very happy if you were to kindly send me something with your autograph on that I could give to her.
If you do feel that this is an inappropriate use of your time, I understand fully and thank you for your indulgence so far. Might I also say that, as a film enthusiast, I appreciate how difficult the work of the board must be in establishing the standards of the wide community and keeping the balance between artistic freedom and maintaining those standards.
Thank you for your time.
Yours Sincerely
What an absolute dude for taking the time to reply.

U.S. Writers StrikeQUOTE
Writer Bryce Zabel said: ‘Everybody knows what a DVD costs and a writer gets four to five cents for a DVD sale. We’ve asked for eight, and they’ve said that’s outrageous.’

In reference to the writer's strike, I think Jon Stewart said that they were striking (the Daily Show writers, at least) because they also wanted money for content of theirs that was being reused on the internet - he then went on to say that all of the shows he's done since he joined the show were online with the ads cut out so only the parent company were getting money... I am paraphrasing of course and I really haven't followed the strike. All I know is I support it in principle but if they appease the writer's by raising costs rather than just giving them the money they deserve from DVD sales as they are then I might be quite annoyed.

'I'll be back' is most-quoted movie line.
Very odd list this, no "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!", "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" or "May the Force be with you."
And surely, if a line from 2001 is going to make it onto a quote list, it would be "Good morning Dave" and "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!" would be the line to make it from Goldfinger?!

I say "I'll be back" often enough, but rarely is it a reference to Arnie. And "A poll of 2,000 film buffs by the UK Film Council's myfilms.com" hardly sounds like a valid survey, if they're going to make such a broad pronouncement that these are the most-quoted lines.
Who are the readers of myfilms.com? Are they representative of the general populace? Was it a random sample, or were they voluntarily electing to participate in the survey?

The list on that page is not the myfilms.com list (UK film council)
That is as follows:
Top 10 movie lines we use the most1. "I'll be back" - The Terminator
2. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" - Gone With The Wind
3. "Beam me up, Scotty" - Star Trek
4. "May the force be with you" - Star Wars
5. "Life is like a box of chocolates" - Forrest Gump
6. "You talking to me?" - Taxi Driver
7. "Show me the money" - Jerry Maguire
8. "Do you feel lucky, punk?" - Dirty Harry
9. "Here's looking at you, kid" - Casablanca
10. "Nobody puts Baby in the corner" - Dirty Dancing

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die."
I say this almost daily, it fits into everyday conversation just as easily as "I'll be back"....
Though I do love working in movie quotes into conversations. Especially ones you wouldn't normally think of.
"You coming to Woolworths, Joe?"
"Woolworths? I'm not going to Woolworths. I've got to get home, it's late, I'm in for it as it is!"
