That, too. Well, I guess except for RTD, though I didn't see that episode; is it "the usual" or better?

Very good, certainly RTD's best episode. Tense, claustrophobic and brilliantly acted by both Tennant and Leslie Sharpe.

ETA:

That, of course, was a review for Midnight!

Turn Left was alright, a good idea but a bit crowded and there is something very strange about Roses' accent . . .

Hopefully Moffat will win for the fourth year in a row. His two-parter pissed over anything done in the rest of the series, though that's par for the course these days.

Then again, Joss did some spectacular work with Dr. Horrible. Tough call.

Is 'Forest of the Dead' generally well thought of? I really liked 'Silence in the Library' but thought the second part was surprisingly rubbish for a Moffat script.

I liked both of the Moffat episodes last season, but they weren't up to the same standard as his previous offerings.

To my mind the RTD scripted Midnight - as mentioned above - was the best episode of the last series. It was original and a very good piece of drama, I'm genuinely surprised the more mediocre Turn Left has got the nod ahead of it.

I wasn't that impressed with Dr. Horrible, it is entertaining, but I still can't work out what all the fuss is about - except that Joss "The God" Whedon did it!

I really enjoyed it, but didn't think it was "Josstonishing." But I must say it's unbelievably good compared to Dollhouse.

I agree. If it weren't for the mighty NPH being in it I wouldn't have even made it to the end. There were some good gags here and there but I really couldn't see what everyone was getting so excited about.

The songs were my main issue I think.

it does happen an awful lot. 'crouching tiger, hidden dragon' and 'hero' both fell victim to being severely dumbed down...

the former had very good subs at the cinema, but the subsequent dvd changed them rather dramatically, for the worse.

the latter, thanks to the weinsteins (who are not well know for treating world cinema with respect), had dreadful subtitles for it's uk/us cinematic and dvd distribution. having had the (excellent) edko dvd for a year or so, i was really quite shocked at the dumbing down and cheesification which occurred, something which had a negative effect on the film.

still, being someone who has struggled through many a film with subs that render narratives barely comprehendable, i have also watched many films where even the most subtle characterisation can be picked up from the subtitles. of course, knowing a little about the language - especially being able to recognise different tones and deliveries - helps a lot...

Have you ever seen Violent Cop? I really really like it but fuck me the subtitles on the version I have are awful. It was a Beat Takeshi boxset and the other two films are fantastic and have good subtitles, but the Violent cop ones are so intermittent and just bad. I wouldn't mind buying a different version of it (if one exists) just so I can have one with decent subtitles.
it annoys me when they don't care about or seem to pay much attention to the subs that are going out with their releases, it is pretty important for foreign films to be able to be understood to a decent degree....

there's a new release, due out soon - the same company who released the 'kitano takeshi collection' box-set few months back. i reviewed it kfcc after i got a promo copy and the subs were pretty good, as far as i remember. you should probably check that out, as it has better image / audio than the old uk releases, as well...

available for pre-order, out in may - hopefully it'll also include the french kitano documentary that came with the box-set...

That's pretty much what I thought too. NPH is very good, he should get his own show, or something (as long as it doesn't involve a hospital . . .).

i picked up a bootleg of this for £3 in mong kok today, hoping that it would've been taken from the non-dumbed-down screener disc. unfortunately, it's a straight boot of the retail version - barring the fact that it has traditional and simplified chinese subtitle tracks as well - damn these chinese bootleggers and their efficiency...

I've seen the first two series, NPH is very good in it. Alyson Hannigan got me watching it, NPH kept me watching it (but for a different reason!).

As far as I am aware only the first series has been shown in the UK (it's certainly the only series available on DVD . . .).

Is a US remake of Death At A Funeral really necessary? The original is quite funny enough already thank you.

That said, it does have Danny Glover and Tracy Morgan on the cast list, not to mention another member of the Firefly/Serenity crew...

Brand returns to radio waves this Sunday

I'm very excited, particularly as Noel is co-hosting; but what I really care about is whether Matt is producing. I'd resigned myself to never hearing from him again, if anything he's funnier than Russell - and the Andrew Sachs nonsense would have never happened if he hadn't buggered off on holiday.

Bring back Matt Morgan!
