Been trying to get back into writing bloggles, so here's my list of The 10 Most Upsetting Films of the Past 10 Years (plus one that absolutely isn't). Let me know your thoughts, you intelligent well-versed bunch o'cinephiles you!

of the ones i've seen...

'dead man's shoes' - it's okay, but completely let down by a really crap ending that has made me all but discard any affection i had developed for the film. 'this is england' is a better film, but still nowhere near as good as 'a room for romeo brass'. the latter being meadow's finest hour.

'all about lily chou chou' - well, it is one of my all time favourite films, by one of my favourite directors, so i approve.

'audition' - pretty good fun.

'sympathy for mr vengeance' - a fucking cracking film, still my favourite of the three, followed by 'lady'...

'requiem for a piece of shit'

Yay! Some dandan approval. Sort of.

Fair comments all though. I'm not sold on Requiem For A Dream either, but it did put me through the ringer, whether in a good way or bad way. Lily Chou-Chou all the way though. It's probably my favourite out of the ten.
Atara
I kind of like The Butterfly Effect even though it is awful. If anything just for CRIPPLE!ASHTON.
Zoe
Good list, well written... thoughts.

10. Out of the Blue (2006)

Brilliant, completely not exploitative and with a really important message. I loved it.

QUOTE
9. Dead Man's Shoes (2004)

Definitely my favourite Meadows film.

QUOTE
8. The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004)

Well... it's upsettingly boring.

QUOTE
5. Audition (1999)

Upsetting because the father and son are so nice, but still a killer blow for feminist horror.

QUOTE
3. Requiem For A Dream (2000)

I liked it, I bought it, I have never and probably will never watch it again. I bought 'Click' this afternoon and watched it immediately. That probably says more about me than the film.

The Butterfly Effect (2004)

Hilariously bleak - where are my arms?!

I remember very little about that film other than the discussion about the Black Panthers letting white people join and changing their names to The Zebras was one of the funniest moments from any film I saw that year. It really didn't fit with the film at all.

That is easily the best scene but understandably incongruous. I dunno, I haven't seen it since it's release, but I'm still reminded of it frequently.

The new season of 'The Guild' is on MSN Video from today!

And, two words will describe why it's even more awesome.

Wil

&

Wheaton!
Zoe
I'm really happy she's a bitch, it makes me want her as an evil best friend all the more...

Everyone hates Megan Fox

"Megan really is a thankless, classless, graceless, and shall we say unfriendly bitch."

Seth Rogen should be glad.

She seems like a dumb, classless bitch anyway so it's not that surprising. She is an attractive movie star though so I suppose she doesn't need brains or class.

Starscream`s Ghost
Photo-realistic ones. Like what Alex Ross does.
Atara
I thought so, it does say that on there I see now. Just Jimmay said photographs so I got confused.

I am jealous of her talent

They are very good.

I get ImagineFX each month, which is a digital science fiction and fantasy art magazine, and that has photo-realistic pictures on occasion, but these are a cut above those.

She is. Especially the portraits behind the wet glass.

A best 100 films of the 00s

Only looked at the top 10 but it seems pretty retarded.
maian
Yeah, they've included Jackass: The Movie and Super Troopers in the Top 100. That's wearing special trousers retarded.

Though it does also include The Devil and Daniel Johnson, which is a fairly interesting choice.
Zoe
I don't get the point of photo-realistic painting. When it comes to the water, I prefer Hockney.

Personally, I like it because people are able to put realistic looking subjects in surreal or out of the ordinary situations - Alex Ross is a good example of this, because he can make superheroes into 'real' people, and therfore highlight their vulnerablities, if that makes sense.

But I realise that might be just me who thinks this.

A nice change. I was expecting baby to be something like October Gulliver McMauve or something. Which of course is the name I'd pick.

Congrats to Prinze-Gellars.

There is a school of thought which doesn't class photo-realism as 'proper art', finding it shallow and show-offy. I can see their points in a way but I disagree. When you see some of these kinds of paintings close up they are even more amazing. Their fantastic technical ability and skill is astounding, challenging boundaries of reality and as long as the artist is using their own photographic work and trying to convey something to the viewer, I don't see why it deserves any less praise than other styles.

It's been rubbish for a few years now. It used to be brilliant, with loads of interesting pages of film, music, sport, all with their own letters pages, but the Beeb has been scaling it back . Now it's almost a mercy killing.

I'm gutted about ITV teletext though. I'm at a loss to know what I'll read over breakfast once that goes in January.
