Why can't Britain do The Wire?I liked this bit,
After winning an Oscar with American Beauty, Alan Ball eschewed the big screen and created Six Feet Under for HBO. In the DVD commentary to the pilot, he describes handing in the edgy first draft to the head of the channel. Having been through the Hollywood studio mill, Ball expected the worst, but the only note he had back read: “Can you make it more fucked up?”

Roger Corman finally receives an OscarI suppose that it's nice that they finally gave him his due, but at a separate, untelevised ceremony secreted away? Not exactly the best display of their admiration for him.

The lack of recognition given to Corman by the Academy is something I've complained about for years. I'm so glad he's finally got one, but a great shame it was at such a low key event.

Hit and miss mainly. The Office works superly though. And also - weirdly - Sanford and Son (the American Steptoe and Son) was hugely popular in the 70s. The writers took only the basics and then changed things well - particularly, making the main characters black and living in Watts.

The Grammy nominations were announced yesterday. It makes for typically uninspiring stuff, but I just noticed that The Lonely ft. T-Pain have been nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for 'I'm On A Boat'. I hope they win since it may cause rap music to eat itself.

He was on Big Fat Quiz of the Year wasn't he? That sort of indicated to me that he was moving onto 4, the Beeb would surely not let their biggest star onto another channel for a panel show without knowing he was soon to go.
He's been on that show a few times, he was particularly funny a few years back when arguing with David Walliams (world's most competitive man).

I'm sad that Wossy is leaving, I always enjoyed his radio show and his Friday night show and he's always come across to me as a nice person. I'll definitely miss both of those, especially being overseas as I end up feeling rather starved for UK entertainment. No more Adam and Joe as well is a double poop.
