A piss poor plot, with little or no tension and far too many plot holes to list, but what really pissed me off was the way the Doctor was so bloody needy.
Martha left him literally minutes before, and he's straight out the TARDIS and chatting up the first gal who catches his eye.
Doctor Who? - Doctor Letch more like . . .
(and Svein, they've already announced the Sontarans for next year).

Although I didn't hate it, I was pretty dissapointed. I felt like they were trying too hard to make us sad at the deaths of the gang they made up, which I didn't feel at all. And the shot of Kylie falling reminded me of the titanic episode of Futurama. And the shot right after of Tennant walking in slow motion looked like a perfume ad. I did enjoy the choose who lives or dies line, and the last scene.
I also thought the trailer was disappointing. But then again, trailers can be decieving.

There is no logic to Doctor Who science, everything is horribly convenient
I agree. Chris, who has never watched Dr Who was a bit disgusted in how easy everything was, especially with his screwdriver, which can do anything, anywhere. The only answer I could come up with was 'But...but it is a Sonic Screwdriver' ... while the words were passing through my lips I realised how ridiculous it all is.
I did not particularly enjoy it. It wasn't as bad as a few previous episodes. I am swiftly loosing the tiny bit of faith I had left in New Dr Who. RTD is mostly to blame, as his episodes are always the worst.

I watched it with my parents - throwback to childhood.
It wasn't as good as Christmas Invasion, and it was more Poseidon Adventure than Titanic. And I didn't like Kylie.
However, it had its moments, and as my parents reminded me, plot-lines have always been a bit hit and miss throughout the history of Dr Who, and all in all I think we enjoyed it

Turlough was okay, a bit lack lustre, but okay.
I re-watched The Runaway Bride the other day and I reckon that Tennant and Tate are going to be excellent together - there's something natural about the chemistry between them that, provided the writing is up to it, is something I think will pay off.

I still hold out high hopes for it... I think it's very easy to slate Catherine Tate because of her show, which is a bit like Marmite, you either love or hate it... I'm all for giving her a chance...

I'd say it's as much as an acting job as any other. She's not at all like Rose in reality, she's actually rather well mannered and spoken. Miss Piper is rather more Park Lane than Powell Estate.

I doubt it.
Back to the 'Who', was the Christmas Special a bit shit? I was heavily involved in an over-competitive, four-way, family scrabble fixture and fear I didn't give it my full attention; but it seemed shit. Was Kylie shit? Was it a misstep to have a Christmas Special in space for the majority of the time? Did the theme of people sacrificing themselves for the greater good seem really lame? Was a man stood in a big box really an effective baddie?
I need to watch it again to judge, but I have absolutely no desire to.
It passed the time, but Scrabble was far more compelling.

Jan 2 2008, 03:11 PM
Yeah, it was pretty shit. Even the way in which people sacrificed themselves was really poorly mishandled, with about half the cast all being offed in the space of three minutes.

Apart from the generally poor story, I think it fell down for me because despite the special effects and the big bangs, there was no real tension in any of it - Davis has gone a bit Lucas.
Also, and I'd forgotten about this until I saw a comment on another forum, what the hell have they done with the opening credits?! The new music was terrible!
I thought that was just my parents' surround sound.
Oh dear.

I watched Voyage Of The Damned again the other day with the red button commentary with RTD, Phil Collinson and Julie Gardener. They were saying themselves that they weren't quite 100% happy with the final script and production as the budget and time constraints didn't allow them make something just a bit stronger. They were quite candid on where some ideas didn't work as well as hoped.
