Looks like The Brig is going to be in the next series of the Sarah Jane Adventures., he's been seen on set.

With the Sontarans as well!

Pictures here!
Svein
Really have to start watching now...
Raven
The first series was worth watching (and it has the bonus of not being written by Russell!).
Svein
Oooooh... even better...

Problem was that it was always on whilst I was at work... however, with Sky+ and iPlayer, I really don't have a valid excuse, do I?
KevinandNick
Some of the episodes of the first series of The Sarah Jane Adventures were far more enjoyable than many of the ones in series three of Doctor Who.

Raven
That is true, and the Slitheen actually work a lot better in kids story than they do in Doctor Who as well.

Starscream`s Ghost
I think I've seen a lot more than 1,000 people (men and women) on the net since Saturday giving the finale a less than sparkling review.

I'll agree that there are a section of fans who nothing will ever be good enough for, but you get that with any fandom, not just Doctor Who. Perhaps if RTD had decided to get good sci-fi writers to pen episodes instead of his mates, then perhaps he would be lauded more than he is (and deserves to be for bringing the series back in the first place).

Yes he seems to lump anyone who doesn't agree with how he runs the show into the group of angry loser fanboys.

Which let's face it, is ironic.

They're not slugs I tell you! They're giant maggots!

Shades of Lucas methinks?

I would say that I have to agree with Digital Spy's review!

It's lovely to see The Brig coming back for The Sarah Jane Adventures, though I would have prefered to see him in Doctor Who itself.

He's supposed to be in the first of the Doctor Who specials next year

Well, caught up on the last two episodes, having missed both due to work and not got around to iplayering them until now.

I thought The Stolen Earth was good fun, as someone who has occasionally dipped into the spin-offs it was quite enjoyable seeing all three crossover as they did, the quality of the performances was particularly high for the show and it had a really strong ending. It was a very good build-up.

Then, you have Journey's End.

Urgh.

You have to hand it to Russell T. Davies; he's the master of the deus ex machina. Just when you think he's exhausted the ways he can cop out of decent storylines and moments of genuine drama, he throws in yet another. Imagination-free sci-fi cobbled together from better ideas that must have floated by him at some point. It wasn't completely terrible, overall I enjoyed it, but there were so many missed opportunities, so many awful soapy moments and it just didn't hold together.

The worst part, though, was the fact that both Donna and Rose got short-changed. Admittedly, Rose got a modicum of happiness (albeit a kind that just seemed, well, wrong) but Donna's exit from the series was actually quite insulting to the character (as well as being a massive deus ex machina). Having established her as a good character and given her a real arc over the series, to see her not only cast aside but to have no memory of the great things she did was a very poor choice, dramatically speaking, and it just smacked of compromise. At least a heroic death would have done the character justice.

However, I'd just like to say that I thought that Julian Bleach was great as Davros.

I agree entirely, my friend.

I like that that they made a brand new Doctor so Rose could have a boyfwiend and not be lonely all on her own in that other world. Awwww she would cry otherwise and we can't have that.

Bless RTD - he not really bothered about using the lousiest fanfic gurly devices to make a 'plot' like 'hey - the space magick makes a sexy twin for hand-holding and dirties'. I bet he thinks about that all the time too.

Julia Gardner has been talking to the Daily Telegraph about the plans for the forth-coming Doctor Who specials.

She has confirmed that there will be four specials, one to be aired this Christmas - which has already finished filming - one to be aired next Easter and two further specials which are yet to be scheduled, although one of them will be shown Christmas 2009.

More interesting is that she has also confirmed that Russell Davis is writing two of the episodes and co-writing the other two. There's no news on who the co-writer may be, but hopefully it will be someone who will reign in his more, err, "flamboyant" ideas.

You can read more here: The Doctor's plans to travel forward in time.

Did you bring the DVD with you Glenn, or did you have to pay an embarrasing sum to get one there?

Duchovny would play 'Who' villain.

That could be good, especially if he was in Hank rather than Mulder mode!

Pegg Not Interested In Doctor Who
24 July 2008 11:45 PM, PDT

Simon Pegg has no interest in taking on the title role in cult sci-fi show Doctor Who - because he is having too much fun acting in Hollywood films.

The star, who once played a villain called The Editor on the British programme, insists he would not want to trade his film career for David Tennant's part as the time-travelling adventurer.

He says, "Being the Doctor? I don't think so. First, I'm really loving doing movies. I'm really enjoying working in the U.S.

"Second, I really love Doctor Who and would hate to sit down on Saturday night and have it be me.

"David Tennant has done an incredible job - he'll be a tough act to follow. I would feel awful if I messed up the franchise by just being rubbish."

That's a good little interview.

He's written a range of stuff from jekyll, press gang, coupling, and Doctor Who, so the man has quite a range, he'll be great.

I'm inclined to take that with a pinch of salt for now, what with tabloids looking for an angle and all that . . .

In other news - and this is a bit last minute - but later this morning, at 11.00am, is the Doctor Who Prom!

For details see here: Doctor Who Prom

This is going to be broadcast on BBC1 at a later date (my guess is sometime next weekend) but if you want to hear it first, tune into Radio 3 at 11am!

Also, a special short has been filmed for this and it will be on the BBC Doctor Who web site - for a limited period - from 11.40am tomorrow.

I FKING HATE THE SCI-FI CHANNEL!

Last week, they show the Doctor regenerating during the preview of this week’s episode and after Friday night’s, instead of just the “To be continued,” they show Doctor Ten running around being the Doctor in the previews.

Combine this with the horrible edits they have done (still no word on the length of the finale), I truly hope Doctor Who finds a new home in time for the 2010 series.

It’s quite obvious that those in charge of the programming have no respect for this show. I’ll say it again, I hate the Sci-fi channel!

An article in The Sun states that Agyeman was "ditched" from the Doctor Who spinoff after signing up to ITV's UK version of Law & Order.

This sounds like precisely the right sort of project for her.

Tee hee hee. She's the new Tamsin Outhwaite.

It's nice of ITV to stick everyone I wouldn't want to see on TV on the same channel. It makes avoiding them so much easier.

I have to admit though, I was hoping Tom Ellis might come back as a recurring character in either DW or TW, and this seem rather unlikely now.
KevinandNick
A great pity - the episodes of Torchwood that Ms Agyeman appeared in really suited her, showing a more mature character than had been seen during her tenure on Doctor Who.

With ITV's finances currently in freefall, Ms Agyeman has clearly been spotted by CCTV standing near a flaming BBC bridge with a petrol can and a packet of matches...

...I just hope that ITV can keep her occupied with a series of drama series (most of which will probably be pulled off-air after two episodes - they usually are with ITV now) in order to keep her distracted from realising what a silly mistake she's just made. wink.gif

I wonder what kind of detective she'll play?

She's playing some kind of prosecution attorney, I believe.

At the normal Proms (well, the last night anyway) the front row is always full of people conducting and dressed to the nines ('twats', as I believe they're known). Does the Dr Who prom have anything similar? A row of blokes dressed as various Doctors would be a good laugh.
Raven
This article has the only pictures from it that I've seen. I believe you generally only get the fancy dress on the last night.

Its the special episode from Doctor Who at the Proms 2008, so if you would rathr wait for it to be shown on the box then dont click the link above!

It makes more sense when seen (or heard) in the context of the actual Prom.

I do like the music though, a bit like whale song.
