Gonna have some massive goodbye in that last special!
Wish he'd have stuck around for a series with Moffat though

Nah, he's right, the time to leave is when RTD and Gardener leave, and allow Moffat and co to start anew.

Well today's been a crappy day for things I like on TV and radio.
I thought Tom Ward was going to turn up dead on 'Silent Witness' earlier too, thankfully it was someone else. The crap dialogue and raised eyebrows will live on!
On the downside, 'Medium' has been bumped to five past midnight.
Anyway... I guess it's right he leaves, but I would have loved to see a whole Moffat/Tennant series. Their episodes together have been dynamite, and he made much better use of David's talents than RTD - no matter how much David loves him. This will certainly make it easier for someone else to take over.

Tennant announces he is leaving
Cock.
His announcement at the NTA awards can be viewed here btw:
Tennant tells fans he's quitting.
I was really hoping he would stay for a series of Moffat, but I suppose that's the nature of the show.
Odds on him turning up in a Who movie at some point?!
The BBC News web site has the following odds on the next Doctor:
Paterson Joseph - 3-1
David Morrisey - 5-1
James Nesbitt - 6-1
John Simm - 8-1
Why do they think John Simm will end up playing him?! He's already played the Master, they aren't going to regenerate a Doctor into someone who has played such a prominent character already!

I'll be sad to see him leave - was also looking forward to seeing him working with Moffatt, but I understand his reasoning.

Probably a good decision on his part, but it will be a bummer to see him go. And I hope RTD will pull his head out of his ass long enough to write a good final story.

Indeed. First Brand now Tennant!
But still, as much as i'd have liked a Tennant-Moffat series, its maybe the best time to leave, Moffat will have a completely new slate now!
I bet David Morrisey is the actual next doctor now.

David Morrissey would be a wonderful Doctor.
Other than Chiwetel Ejiofor, I wouldn't mind seeing Nathaniel Parker in the Tardis.

Hmmm, Brand as The Doctor? If only to piss a lot of people off.
Philip Glenister would be an interesting selection. My fave would still be The Thewlis.

From completely left-field, how 'bout Richard Ayoade as the new Doctor??? I reckon the awkward geekyness would go well with the action/drama. Or Noel Fielding.

A black Doctor the BBC might take a chance on. But a fuck ugly one!
(I actually quite like the idea of both of them)

Me too! I thought he was going to stay, provided that Doctor Who does a movie? I guess maybe he figures his star has risen so he can go on to bigger and better things (I know I'll be watching him). Still, I'm happy for him but sad that he's going..

I'd be happy with many of the suggestions here - Patterson Joseph, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thewlis, Gatiss or Morrissey would all be great. I reckon Phil Glenister would rock, too.
Sad to see David go but I think it's the right time - you always want to leave people wanting a little more from you as the character, otherwise they become bored with you.

Unfortunately for Doctor Who fans (possibly), their next choice will be entirely based on the popularity and appeal of David Tennant. It'll have to be someone as young/cool/attractive as him to keep as wide a following as possible.
That leaves one person. Me.
But really, forum Doctor: Shack would be your Peter Davidson equivalent, Chappers is your William Hartnell, Ade your Tom Baker...
