I know someone who will not be happy the companion is yet another young woman, we were rather looking forward to a male one.

I take it from her credentials that she's not English though? At least we'll be spared another Londoner for the fifth year on the trot, with a bit of luck.

So long as it doesn't descend into "Oh I love the Doctor and am jealous of everyone he ever talks to what isn't me!" like it did with Piper and Agyeman.

News for those in the US, BBC America have aquired first screening rights to the Tennant Doctor Who speicals and will be showing The Next Doctor later this month with Planet of the Dead to follow.

Had a chat with a friend of mine the other day and he knows someone in the know about the last two Tennant specials:

• Rose is back, and so is Jackie.
• Donna is back.
• Martha and Mickey aren't back.
• Jess is back, but she plays her last character's granddaughter.
• John Simm is back as the Master.
• The bloody Ood are back too.

It's all on the Q.T, so I can't vouch for the veracity of these comments, and if anyone asks I made them up...

I haven't read the full article, as I actually don't remember the story very well and I want to watch it without other people's opinions colouring my judgement, but you are right when you say it was a dark period for Who - the first McCoy season was pretty much dreadful from beginning to end (though I do feel it recovered brilliantly once Ace came aboard and the Doctor got all mysterious and slightly sinister . . .).

I will have a read once I've watched the DVD!

Looks like the source for that was a piece of speculation posted on the Kasterborous web site.

I wouldn't rule it out, there have been rumours about this for a while now, but I wouldn't hold your breath either!

They are, but in the same set of press releases today the BBC also covered the Sports Personality of the Year show, and that doesn't usually go out until a week or so before Christmas! It's not even mid July yet and they are already publicising programs that will be on in over six months time, I'm just saying they are getting a tad ahead of themselves, is all.

I like it. I think it draws some attention away from his age (which face it, a LOT of people were bitching about when he was announced) without actually making him look much older than he is. A neat sort of old-person clothing on young-person body dichotomy if you will. Which is really what the character he's playing kind of is, isn't it?

If it was a year ago I'd agree, but I've seen a hundred boys wearing that sort of thing about in the last little while so it has lost its Geography teacher charm. Another sexy look been ruined by indie boys
