Just watched the final two episodes back-to-back on BBC Three - what a great way to spend two hours!
QUOTE (Wife Of Rolex @ Jun 27 2010, 10:57 AM)

A postcard from the Van Gogh exhibition, seen in the previous episode to The Lodger, was on the fridge in Craig's (James Corden) flat. But later in the episode he said he'd never been to Paris, where the exhibition is. So how did he have a postcard from it? Turns out Amy posted it before The Doctor introduced himself.
Bzzzt! Wrong answer! Amy doesn't put anything through Craig's door, she's heading off to put the postcard (the one that tells the Doctor which ad to reply to) in the shop window (she stops momentarily to stroke a cat, is all).

Surely someone who had been there just sent him the postcard, like the one he was in love with?

Who knows, there's nothing in the episode to explain it though. I suspect it's just a nod back to the previous episode from the production team.

Balls. It'll have to remain an annoying continuity screw up then. If he'd just not said he'd never been to Paris it would've been fine.
The series is ruined.
I hate Stephen Moffat.
Not really.

I did that too, on Friday night. They really fit together well. Even though is second viewing for both episodes, it just flew by.

As part of an assignment for the site I write for (the results of which I'll probably post here when it goes live) I've spent the last couple of days rewatching the Eccleston series for the first time since the episodes aired. It was an interesting experience since it wound up challenging a lot of my own memories of watching the episodes at the time.
Firstly, I didn't find Eccleston as The Doctor half as charming as I remembered him being. That's not necessarily a criticism, since his incarnation is quite prickly and has less of the levity that either Tennant or Smith has brought to the role, but I remembered liking him instantly, whereas it took a few episodes for me to warm to him this time around. It's probably just that I'm so used to those other portrayals of The Doctor, both of which build upon a lot of the darkness that he brought to the character, that a lot of the freshness of his performance has faded.
Secondly, I was surprised by how consistent the series was. I remembered there being a few highlights (Rose, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances) but the overall quality is surprisingly consistent, with only The End of the World and Aliens of London/World War III being particularly rubbish. I had also forgotten that Father's Day was in the series, and how genuinely affecting it is seeing Rose reunited with her long-dead father. It all looks a bit cheap compared to more recent episodes, because the show was operating on an even stricter budget back then, but it still has that charm to it that has kept me coming back.

Matt Smith to quit 'Who' next year? Here we go again . . .
I really liked Christopher Eccelston, but I sometimes wish he had never played the Doctor because all we get now is "When is X going to leave the show?" speculation, and it's all
utterly pointless.

It might not have to be a retcon. The Master used all his regenerations up, but was granted another set by the Time Lords, IIRC.

I doubt they would reintroduce a major character so early in a series (they have only just started filming for next year), but Moffat is trying to shake up the old format a bit, so who knows?

A couple of pieces of news . . .
- Tonight is the first of two Doctor Who Proms (the second being tomorrow morning) which will feature Matt Smith, Karen Gillian and (hurrah!) Arthur Darvill. The Prom starts at 7.30pm and, for listeners on Radio Three, there will be a 20-minute programme taking a light-hearted look at the music of Doctor Who called "Dance of the Daleks" which will be broadcast during the intermission at around 8.20pm (the second Prom starts tomorrow morning at 11.00am).
- For those who may have missed it / want to see it again / do not have access to iPlayer or the DVDs etc, BBC Three are starting a re-run of series five next Friday evening at 7pm.

^ Yes, I watched that - it's even worse after 13 episodes of Smith/Moffat.
End of Time is just a mess of ideas (not all of them bad, I'll grant you) but what would you rather have; the Doctor sat in a cafe being miserable, or the Doctor eating fish-custard? I know which I prefer!
To my mind RTD over-played the angst card and forgot that the series wasn't supposed to be grim competition for Eastenders on Christmas Day.
Everlong
Jul 24 2010, 01:26 PM
A case of showing how the Doctor needs his companions but going to angsty with it.
I'd have forgiven RTD for the 20 minutes of goodbyes if the earlier part episode wasn't so depressing.
Moffat/Smith/Gillan/Darvill is a bit of a dream team in comparison. Glad series 5 was, for the most part, great fun. And in some parts, excellent.

^ I'm trying to remember back two years to what they did after series four aired. I think they did do a weekly run through of that series before they went to nightly repeats, but they may have just gone back to series one or two and shown series four after they had done a full run through, not sure.

I wrote a quiz about Series 5 (or whatever you want to call it) fro HowWellDoYouKnow.com
which you can find here. It's not massively difficult, but extra traffic reflects well on me, so have a go. It'll only take a few minutes.
I know that Question 3 is currently wrong. I didn't have the internet when I wrote that one, so couldn't fact check. Hopefully everything else is correct...
I've also written one for the Eccleston series, but that one won't be up until next week sometime.

In other news, the 5th series soundtrack has been announced for release at the beginning of November (following on from a release of the music from the Specials at the beginning of September).
