Just watched the episode - it was really superb. Alex Kingston plays a great character, and I'm excited to see if we find out who she is in relation to the Doctor next week. The book intrigues me too - it's a bit like The Time Traveller's Wife, which I love.
Can't wait to see the conclusion!

Methinks she is a future companion, i hope so anyway, maybe Moffat is setting it up for when he is showrunner...

Not really, if she is walking around with a copy of his diary (or biography) she could easily have seen pictures of him and read about Donna. I took it, from her comment that his eyes looked so young, that River knows him from a long time in his future.

Finally got around to watching 'Silence In The Library' and, as expected, it's far and away the best of the series so far. Moffat once again proves how good he is at writing clever, scary science fiction stories that are also huge fun to watch. I loved the 'ghosting' moments and thought that they encapsulated what's best about Moffat's writing on the show; a great sci-fi idea that can be used to devastating emotional effect. I also liked the idea of the little girl being involved somehow (Moffat does like stories where The Doctor appears on TV screens, doesn't he?)
Alex Kingston was particularly good, especially since I was initially dubious about her character and the way she seemed to be over-egging things, which I guess was the point since she seemed so sure that The Doctor knew who she was..
As an individual episode, I don't think it's as strong as Blink or The Girl In The Fireplace but I can't wait to see how the second episode plays out.

I reckon.. (Spoiler tagged for the benefit of those that haven't seen...)
She will be a recurring character. She may have died then got saved inside the hard drive with the other archeologists, but she was about in the doctor's personal future.
I reckon she is his future wife/partner.
I also love the idea that he sort of had a back up plan for her death, so she can live on in another reality.
I also liked how Lux was shown to be a decent character in the end. And anita was good too.
Extraodinary. outstanding, amazing!
Moffat knew exactly what all SF fans would have guessed from the last episode, and then proceeded to confirm and utterly subvert our expectations.
Genius.
I nearly cried twice, got goose bumps an equal time, and then actually cried (at Liam and Donna's final moment together as husband and wife).
Just brilliant. There is no reason why every episode shouldn't be this standard. Roll on 2010.
P.S. No need to spoiler purely speculative theories based on already aired episodes.
P.P.S. "Who is the Doctor?", tee hee
P.P.P.S. Who else guessed she whispered his name?
P.P.P.S. Let's hope they don't stick with the finger clicking. So naff. Who does he think he is, the Fonz?

Nahh i thought it was something more obvious like about rose or someone else from the show.
Though my dad did say 'Maybe she said his name?' so he was on the ball with that one.
Moffat is such a cunt having Liam reappear like that only to have his stutter prevent him from calling out to her.
Boo hoo.
I think she had it worse than the doctor. At least he gets to see his perfect partner again.

Do you reckon she might have known his real name because he'll have had to reveal it at his wedding?
And I'd like to echo the praise given above, it was excellent. The imagination of Moffat is frightening. The concept and realisation of the 'Doctor Moon' was inspired.
I believe Saturday's Guardian summed it up best when they said, "it's like Phillip K Dick wrote an episode of Doctor Who".
It was after reading that I started skipping round work with anticipation. As it turned out, he completely exceeded my expectations.
I have no idea how he comes up with this stuff, or how he manages to play with audience expectations so deftly. He must have read a lot of SF as a child, no one is this good without knowing the genre.
He makes me happy.

Aye. She said she'd look for him, but it's sad she decided he was a part of her imagination and therefore won't look for him
Also.. that scene between doctor and river towards the end..
"Why have you got handcuffs?!"
And the way she answers "Spoilers" with that grin..
Doctor gets a bit kinky in his old age? maybe, ha.
Plus I don't think she's going to make it past the end of this series, let alone back to the 51st century.

As long he doesnt go around saying "Eeeyyy" when he snaps his fingers.
Moffat always comes up with the goods doesnt he? The second parter had everything, intrigue, mystery, drama - the works and it was played very well by all involved. Thought Catherine Tate did an excellent job too.
Next weeks episode, Midnight, sees Patrick Troughton's son playing the part of Professor Hobbes - keeping it in the Who family!

That bit was so cruel. I'd have liked to have seen more of Donna's life; it reminded me a lot of the 'Superstar' episode of Buffy. I love false realities and seeing people trying to figure them out. Catherine Tate was really quite excellent in those bits.

That's easily the best description of the episode. So much wit, invention and pathos crammed into 45 minutes, the mind boggles at how good Moffat is. As expected, the second half delivered and I think that the two-parter even surpasses The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. I laughed at the very clever editing jokes, I very nearly cried several times and I cheered at the end. I also liked the line 'I'm the Doctor, and you're in the biggest library in the Universe. Look me up'' a lot as I like those moments when the Doctor gets to really throw his weight around.
I like the idea that this episode could set up River Song as a recurring character over the next few years, or possibly even longer depending on how long her and the Doctor knew each other. I think she probably
was his wife or whatever the Gallifreyan equivalent is. The way he felt about her towards the end and the significance of someone knowing his name had for him would suggest some incredibly personal relationship. I hope that Moffat gets to explore that once he takes over the show.Even though I loved the ending, I could see it coming. Not that that wasn't one of the reasons I loved.

It's strange, because the CAL side of the story reminded me of 'Normal Again'

Back to Donna though, I wonder what she'd have done had she had the opportunity to choose whether she stayed in her happy virtual reality, rather than being forced out.
