The sixties were such an innocent time:
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl,
You're much too young, girl
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe
You're old enough
To give me Love
And now it hurts to know the truth, Oh,
Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know
That it is wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, Oh,
So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here
Before I have the time
To change my mind
'Cause I'm afraid we'll go too far, Oh,
Young girl

The Cat Empire- No Longer There
And though you'd like to hear a song
That sings everything's all right
The temperature is warm
The fire horses sleep
So gently comes the night
You close your eyes and stare
The ground they're on is bare
But once it was as deep
As wildest giants dreams
It's no longer there
And all of our desires
They mirror skies with flames
And smoke out heaven's halls
Who was that you called
They're no longer there
Here it goes again
Here it goes again
Here it goes again
What would you leave behind when all your fields are dead?
When your territories are dried out and your cities drowned and swept
What would you leave behind when those who bear your name
Are born in that place that you wrecked?
What would you leave behind when you're no longer there?
Would you sail to distant shores?
And hide within the hills
And softly close your doors
Pretend the world is safe
And wait for heaven's call
Or would you turn and face the seas
And come beside your cave
There's chance but if you dare
And swift as honour's steeds
Before it's no longer there
Here it goes again
Here it goes agaaain
Here it goes aga .. ain!
What would you leave behind when all your fields are dead?
When your territories are dried out and your cities drowned and swept
What would you leave behind
When those who bear your name are born in that place that you wrecked?
What would you leave behind when you're no longer there?
To deny or to despair
It's really just the same
Everything between
It means we have to change
Cos when a one forgets
The world begins to fade
And all the shapes and shades
That made the colours see
When they suddenly turned grey
That they're no longer there

A stone would cry out - Sam Roberts
The cinematic after effects of alcohol
Have led me to believe
That there's nothing more beautiful
Than a face as it starts to fade
From your memory, what had once been clear as the day
Obscured by the shade
And I was always the thorn to your rose
A long string of disappointing days
Led me to concede that I'd been losing sleep
And I'm tired and frayed at the seams
And things are changing in me
It's been two hard months since I could call you my own
It cuts to the bone
Is there anything that I can do when I've been turned into stone?
But I was always the thorn to your rose
Some doors are better left closed
You move like a rolling wave
One that don't fade when it's gone
Beyond a doubt it gets so hard that a stone would cry out
I know there's a lesson in here
But it's so hard to find
I've been searching my mind
A little pearl of wisdom for the later years
When the thread of this life starts to unwind
I never had to fight for my love
But that's over I know
It's just how it goes
I never had to fight for my love
But that's over I know
It's just how it goes
And you move like a rolling wave
One that don't fade when it's gone
Beyond a doubt it gets so hard, it gets so hard
That a stone would cry out
Some doors are better left closed
Some say this place makes it hard to hold your head up
Some days this face makes me feel like I've been set up

What Did I Ever Give You - Kaiser Chiefs
Head down, keep your head down
Keep the rent down all the time
Hold tight, to your red stripe
Why do we fight everytime
I wish that you could see me in the day
I hope that you'll remember me that way
Night club, Marlborough Light stub
Stuck to my gob, all the time
I treat you like the see-through
I don't mean to everytime
I wish that you could see me in the day
I hope that you'll remember me that way
What did I ever give you
When you wanted me to
All I gave you was pain
And a look of disdain
What did I ever give you
When you wanted me to
All I gave you was grief
Are you sick to your teeth
Disgraced, back to my place
I'm a complete waste of your time
I'm asleep before the first sheep
Until the last bleep of all time
I wish that you could see me in the day
I hope that you'll remember me that way
What did I ever give you
When you wanted me to
All I gave you was pain
And a look of disdain
What did I ever give you
When you wanted me to
All I gave you was grief
Are you sick to your teeth
What did I ever give you
When you wanted me to
All I gave you was pain
And a look of disdain
What did I ever give you
When you wanted me to
All I gave you was grief
Are you sick to your teeth

You Don't Own Me
You don't own me
I'm not just one of your many toys
You don't own me
Don't say I can't go with other boys
Don't tell me what to do
Don't tell me what to say
And please, when I go out with you
Don't put me on display
You don't own me
Don't try to change me in anyway
You don't own me
Don't tie me down 'cause I'll never stay
I don't tell you what to say
I don't tell you what to do
So just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you
I'm young and I love to be young
I'm free and I love to be free
To live my life the way I want
To say and do whatever I please

Holy man open up your eyes
To the ways of the world you've been so blind
As the walls of religion come crashing down
How's the ignorance taste the second time around?
Tell me how it feels knowing chaos will never end
Tell me what it's like when the celebration begins
Welcome to the horror of the revelation
Tell me what you think of your saviour now
I reject all the biblical views of the truth
Dismiss it as the folklore of the times
I won't be force-fed prophecies
From a book of untruths for the weakest mind
Join the new faith for the celebration
Cult of new faith fuels the devastation
Holy man come and worship me
I am all that you ever wanted to be
I'm the life of indulgence you never knew
The epitome of evil shining through
Tell me how it feels knowing chaos will never end
Tell me what it's like when the celebration begins
Welcome to the horror of the revelation
Tell me what you think of your saviour now
I reject all the biblical views of the truth
Dismiss it as the folklore of the times
I won't be force-fed prophecies
From a book of untruths for the weakest mind
I keep the bible in a pool of blood
So that none of its lies can affect me
This is new faith
A different way of life
Witness the shame
See for yourself the lies
I'll take the fight
Bring it every time, any time
Refuse to let them win
My heresy begins
Pray for life - wish for death
Pray for life - know in time you'll pray for death
Tear it away
It lives inside your mind
Silence the fear
That keeps you pure inside
Now you can see
Life's atrocities endlessly
Witness the miracle
Witness the miracle
Pray for life - wish for death
Pray for life - with every breath
You'll pray for death - you'll pray for death
Embrace new faith, embrace new faith
Yeah, new faith - yeah, new faith.

Amy Winhouse - Love is a losing game
For you I was a flame,
Love is a losing game
Five story fire as you came,
Love is losing game
One I wish I never played,
Oh, what a mess we made
And now the final frame,
Love is a losing game
Played out by the band,
Love is a losing hand
More than I could stand,
Love is a losing hand
Self professed profound
Til' the chips were down
Know you’re a gambling man
Love is a losing hand
Tho' I battled blind,
Love is a fate resigned
Memories mar my mind,
Love it is a fate resigned
Over futile odds,
And laughed at by the Gods
And now the final frame,
Love is a losing game

Bitch - Unstick
Picture frames, window panes, highway strains, and me.
On the inside side of moving streets, a moving me.
Through states that take a mile and make a million from me to you.
Fade into fast froward city, where you went to find her.
Disguised for her opening.
I am still hoping someday you'll come costumed to my show.
You'll buy a ticket and I won't even know.
I can't stand to stand up for this all the time.
Feel like I always put my love into rhyme,
and mail it to your house for three times a dime.
But I should just stop my mouth,
pull it off then out, unstick it from your dick,
and take a long road trip.
Kiss you good bye, try not cry, and hope you'll come around.
Some time I dream too big or too loud.
That's when I know people are so scared to be proud.
It's taken me years to feel aloud to speak out my fears,
or elevate my peers. And I love you.
I love the you in you.
I know sometimes love can feel a heavy, hot glue,
so I'll just go. Turn my head, hit the gas with all the lead,
drive out of town, and leave you to your down time,
and me to my can't stay around this time.
Cause I can't stand to stand up for this all the time.
Feel like I always put my love into rhyme,
and mail it to your house for three times a dime.
But I should just stop my mouth,
pull it off then out, unstick it from your dick,
and take a long road trip.
Kiss you good bye, try not cry, and hope you'll come around.
But that doesn't seem bound to happen...
Picture frames, window panes, highway strains, and me.
On the inside side of moving streets, a moving me.

The Divine Comedy - Count Grassi's Passage Over Piedmont
Below the Po rolls slow from Alps to Adriatic Sea
Blow old bellows, blow
Take us where you will
Padua, Genoa, Corsica, Catalonia, O Segovia
O unfathomable firmament.
That we should set a course between the two
Clinging only to our orb of blue and red
Like Romanovs to a Faberge egg
Push Sisyphus, push
Heave our sphere into the heavens.
If I'm to die then let it be in summertime
In a manner of my own choosing
To fall from a great height
On a warm July afternoon
Liverwurst, Battenburg, Emmenthall, Syllabub, Muscadet
Throw it all away
We need more height
O Newton, release this apple from its earthly shackles
And live to fight another day.
Go back from whence you came the swallows cry
You've corrupted and befouled the ground you walk upon
And now you come to poison the skies
Please friends, forgive this brief intrusion.

Tom Tom Club - Genius of Love
What you gonna do when you get out of jail?
I'm gonna have some fun
What do you consider fun?
Fun, natural fun
I'm in heaven
With my boyfriend, my laughing boyfriend
There's no beginning and there is no end
Time isn't present in that dimension
He'll take my arm
When we're walkin', rolling and rocking
It's one time I'm glad I'm not a man
Feels like I'm dreaming, but I'm not sleeping
I'm in heaven
With the maven of funk mutation
Clinton's musicians such as Bootsy Collins
Raise expectations to a new intention
No one can sing
Quite like Smokey, Smokey Robinson
Wailin' and shakin' to Bob Marley
Reggae's expanding with Sly and Robbie
All the weekend
Boyfriend was missing
I surely miss him
The way he'd hold me in his warm arms
We went insane when we took cocaine.
Stepping in a rhythm to a Kurtis Blow
Who needs to think when your feet just go
With a hi-diti-hi and a hip-iti-ho
Who needs to think when your feet just go ...Bohannon Bohannon Bohannon Bohannon
Who needs to think when your feet just go ...Bohannon Bohannon Bohannon Bohannon
James Brown, James Brown
James Brown, James Brown
If you see him
Please remind him, unhappy boyfriend
Well he's the genius of love
He's got a greater depth of feeling
Well he's the genius of love
He's so deep.

The Magnetic Fields - It's only time
Why would I stop loving you
a hundred years from now?
It's only time.
It's only time.
What could stop this beating heart
once it's made a vow?
It's only time.
It's only time.
If rain won't change your mind,
let it fall.
The rain won't change my heart
at all.
Lock this chain
around my hand,
throw away the key.
It's only time.
It's only time.
Years falling
like grains of sand
mean nothing to me.
It's only time.
It's only time.
If snow won't change your mind
let it fall.
The snow won't change my heart,
not at all.
(I'll walk your lands)
I'll walk your lands
(And swim your sea)
And swim your sea
Marry me.
Marry me.
(Then in your hands)
Then in your hands
(I will be free)
I will be free
Marry me.
Marry me.
Why would I stop loving you
a hundred years from now?

You're so happy now
Burning a candle at both ends
Your self-loving soothes
And softens the blows you've invented
Breathe in deep, and cleanse away our sins
And we'll pray that there's no God
To punish us and make a fuss
Crack's healing up
Future soul forgive this mess
You wait twenty years
And wind up alone, demented
Breathe in deep, and cleanse away our sins
And we'll pray that there's no God

Breathe in deep, and cleanse away our sins

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the 'NO's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles brusied by a lady in black
And I held my toungue as she told me "Son,
Fear is the heart of love"
So I never went back
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the 'NO's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the 'NO's on their vacancy signs
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark.

Here comes the water.
All I knew and all I believed
Are crumbling images
That no longer comfort me.
I scramble to reach higher ground,
Some order and sanity,
Or something to comfort me.
So I take what is mine, and hold what is mine,
Suffocate what is mine, and bury what's mine.
Soon the water will come
And claim what is mine.
I must leave it behind,
And climb to a new place now.
This ground is not the rock I thought it to be.
Thought I was high,
Thought I was free.
I thought I was there
Divine destiny.
I was wrong.
This changes everything.
The water is rising up on me.
Thought the sun would come deliver me,
But the truth has come to punish me instead.
The ground is breaking down right under me.
Cleanse and purge me
In the water.

You can't keep me from talking
You can't keep me from praising
You when you're around
And I won't make you a goddess
Won't make me a martyr
It's never worked before
And you, you loved me with your eyes, Cindy
And you, you held me with your voice
You listened when my voice was void of sound
You touched me with your laugh and showed me to my smile
And you, you saved me with your kiss
Before I drowned
And I can walk down waverly
And catch a glimpse of you and you and you and you and you and me
While I try to synchronise
But you, you walk a little faster
As if romantic winds were keeping us in time.
And you, you loved me with your eyes, Cindy
And you, you held me with your voice
You listened when my voice was void of sound
You touched me with your laugh and showed me to my smile
And you, you saved me with your kiss
Before I drowned
'Cause you, you just turned and stared at me
I was shy, could hardly speak
So then you just kissed me
You can't keep me from talking
You can't keep me from praising you when you're around.

It's up in the morning and on the downs
Little white clouds like gambolling lambs
And I am breathless over you
And the red-breasted robin beats his wings
His throat it trembles when he sings
For he is helpless before you
The happy hooded bluebells bow
And bend their heads all a-down
Heavied by the early morning dew
At the whispering stream, at the bubbling brook
The fishes leap up to take a look
For they are breathless over you
Still your hands
And still your heart
For still your face comes shining through
And all the morning glows anew
Still your mind
Still your soul
For still, the fare of love is true
And I am breathless without you
The wind circles among the trees
And it bangs about the new-made leaves
For it is breathless without you
The fox chases the rabbit round
The rabbit hides beneath the ground
For he is defenceless without you
The sky of daytime dies away
And all the earthly things they stop to play
For we are all breathless without you
I listen to my juddering bones
The blood in my veins and the wind in my lungs
And I am breathless without you
Still your hands
And still your heart
For still your face comes shining through
And all the morning glows anew
Still your soul
Still your mind
Still, the fire of love is true
And I am breathless without you

Three-hundred-fifty cities in the world
Just thirty teeth inside of our heads
These are the limits to our experience
It's scary but it's alright
And everything is finite
Only one record, in this whole wide world
Where Jimi Hendrix sings House Burning Down
Another Elvis will not come along
He got wasted but it's alright
And everything is finite
Yeah, wasted - it's alright
Everything is finite
I'm just a baby in my daddy's arms
Who will protect me from these women's charms
I'm six foot tall but I barely speak
My - mind goes crazy when the taste is sweet
Well we've known each other, eight years and twenty days
It's - terrifying, it's beautiful too
Things have an end
But feeling is infinite
We're changing but it's alright
And everything is finite
Yeah, changing's alright
Things finite

Yellow is the colour of my true love's hair,
In the morning, when we rise,
In the morning, when we rise.
That's the time, that's the time,
I love the best.
Blue's the colour of the sky-y,
In the morning, when we rise,
In the morning, when we rise.
That's the time, that's the time,
I love the best.
Green's the colour of the sparklin' corn,
In the morning, when we rise,
In the morning, when we rise.
That's the time, that's the time,
I love the best.
Mellow is the feeling that I get,
When I see her, m-hmm,
When I see her, oh yeah.
That's the time, that's the time,
I love the best.
Freedom is a word I rarely use,
Without thinking, m-hmm,
Without thinking, oh yeah.

When I've been loved.

I woke, cold and alone
Adrift in an open sea
Caught up in regrets
And tangled in nets
Instead of your arms wrapped around me
And I wept, but my tears are anathema here
Just more water to fill my lungs
I hear someone scream
"God what is it we have done?"
I am drowning in a digital sea
I am slipping beneath the sound
Here my voice goes to ones and zeros
I'm slipping beneath the sound
A song from somewhere below
Deadly and slow begins
Both sickly and sweet
Now picking up speed
Ushering in the world's end
And the ghost of Descartes screams again in the dark
"Oh how could I have been so wrong?"
But above the screams the sirens sing their song

Propaganda - Duel
Eye to eye stand winners and losers
hurt by envy, cut by greed.
Face to face with their own disillusion.
The scars of old romances still on their cheeks,
and when blow by blow the passion dies sweet little death.
Just have been lies the memories of gone by time
would still recall the lie.
The first cut won't hurt at all,
the second only makes you wonder.
The third will have you on your knees,
you start bleeding I start screaming.
It's too late the decision is made by fate,
time to prove what forever should last.
Whose feelings are so true as to stand the test.
Whose demands are so strong as to parry all attempts,
and when blow by blow the passion dies sweet little death.
Just have been lies the memories of gone by time
would still recall the lie.
The first cut won't hurt at all,
the second only makes you wonder.
The third will have you on your knees,

His reasons tend to fly away
Like lesser birds on the four winds, yeah
Like silver scrapes in May
Now the sands become a crust
And most of you have gone away, then you're gone away
Ah, come Susie dear, let's take a walk
Just out there upon the beach
I know you'll soon be married
And you'll want to know where winds come from
Well, it's never said at all
On the map that Carrie reads
Behind the clock back there you know
At the four winds bar, mm, yeah
Yeah
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Four winds at the four winds bar
Two doors locked and windows barred
One door left to take you in
The other one just mirrors it
Hey!
Hey! Yeah!
Hey! Yeah!
Hey!
Ooh, in hellish glare and inference
The other one's a duplicate
The queenly flux, eternal light
Or the light that never warms
Yes, the light that never, never warms
Yes, the light that never, never warms
Never warms, never warms

Out at you from their hiding place?

Would find themselves at four winds bar

And the origin of storms
Just the place to hopelessly
Encounter time and then came me

And if it rains all day
Call on you I'll call on you
Like I used to
Slide down beside and wrap you in stories
Tailored entirely for you
I'll remind you
We exchanged a vow
I love you, I always will
A call girl with yesterday eyes
Was our witness and priest
Stockport supporters club kindly supplied us a choir
Your veil was your smile
As we moved down the aisle
Of the last bus home
And this is where I go
Just when it rains
Blinking and stoned
Rain in your hair
You only smoke ‘cause it's something to share
Singing bring on the night
To have and to hold
The sodium light turning silver to gold
Spitfire thin and strung like a violin
I was
Yours was the face with a grace
From a different age
You were the sun in my Sunday morning
You were the sun in my Sunday morning
Telling me never to go
So I'll live on the smile
And move down the aisle
Of the last bus home
And if you're running late
This is where I'll go
Know I'll always wait

Delain - Sleepwalker's Dream
Close your eyes
For the night is falling
Fear no dark for it's warm and safe
And looks familiar as it comes approaching
Come with me and I will take you
On a world beyond your sleep
Beyond what's real
In safety, a hidden sphere
Away from our daily reality
Truth lies out there, the truth lies out there.
As the innocent lay their heads down
As the night chants its luring call
Cross the borders of sense and foresight
Come with me and I will take you
You don't have to be afraid
A tear is only water
A sigh is only air
Whenever you feel haunted
The truth lies out there, the truth lies out there.
On a world beyond your sleep
Beyond what's real
In safety, a hidden sphere
Away from our daily reality
Truth lies out there, the truth lies out there.

Having spent the day listening to The Fall's soundtrack to their ballet about football (!) I Am Kurious Oranj I found myself insanely smiling to some of Mark E Smiths lyrics. Particularly on the semi cover version of the hymn Jerusalem
And did those feet in ancient times,
Walk upon mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God,
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth on clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem
In the dark Satanic Mills?
Jerusalem
It was the fault of the government
I was walking down the street
When I tripped up on a discarded banana skin
And on my way down I caught the side of my head
On a protruding brick chip
It was the government's fault
It was the fault of the government
I was very let down
From the budget I was expecting a one million quid handout
I was very disappointed
It was the government's fault
It was the fault of the government
I beecame semi-automatic type person
And I didn't have a pen
And I didn't heve a condom
It was the fault of the government
I think I'll emigrate to Sweden or Poland
And get looked after properly by government
Jerusalem
Bring Bow of burning gold:
Bring Arrows of desire:
Bring me Spear: O clouds unfold!
And though I rest from Mental Fight,
And though sword sleeps in hand
I will not rest til Jerusalem is built
In Englands green and pleasant Land
Actually about 50% of the lyrics end in "ah" but I can't be arsed to type them in

There's a devil waiting outside your door (How much longer?)
There's a devil waiting outside your door (How much longer?)
And he's bucking and braying and pawing at the floor (How much longer?)
And he's howling with pain, crawling up the walls (How much longer?)
There's a devil waiting outside your door (How much longer?)
And he's weak with evil and broken by the world (How much longer?)
And he's shouting your name and asking for more (How much longer?)

With a trembling heart, he's coming through your door (How much longer?)
With his straining sex in his jumping paw (How much longer?)
Ooh, there's a devil crawling along your floor (How much longer?)
And he's old and he's stupid and he's hungry and he's sore
And he's blind and he's lame and he's dirty and he's poor
Gimme more, gimme more, gimme more, gimme more, gimme more, gimme more (How much longer?)

And he wants you, darling, to be his bride (How much longer?)

Aimee Mann - That's How I Knew This Story Would Break My Heart
I drew a picture of you
You and your anchor tattoo
And saw the face that I knew
Covered in shame
You drew a bird that was here
A kind of sweet chanticleer
But with a terrible fear
That the cage couldn't tame
That's how I knew this story would break my heart
When you wrote it
That's how I knew this story would break my heart
So, like a ghost in the snow
I'm getting ready to go
'Cause baby, that's all I know –
How to open the door
And though the exit is crude
It saves me coming unglued
For when you're not in the mood
For the gloves and the canvas floor
That's how I knew this story would break my heart
When you wrote it
That's how I knew this story would break my heart
That's how I knew this story would break my heart
When you wrote it
That's how I knew this story would break my heart

We made love like two fat gay men on boxing day
We made love like two blind people in a minefield
We made love as if we were dying
We made love & lost our bodies
We made love like bears in the hunting season
Like ducks in the mating season
Appearing in the strangest places
Nowhere near the water
We made love like tramps in cardboard city
We kissed like 3 year olds in kindergarten
We fucked like neo-nazis on speed
We touched like teenagers in a hospice
We clung to each other like two bomb disposal officers who just cut the blue instead of red
We made love like our parents were away for the evening
We desecrated an unknown grave at dusk with our lust
At the back of the church, the altar didn't falter
We made love & locked together like dogs' hind legs
Entwined
We made love like midgets in the circus ring
The fat lady & the fat man never knew
We made love like snapped electrical cables getting ever nearer to the water
We made love like two swimmers in a storm in the pool above which these cables had just snapped
We made love
...Nothing special
Ba-da-ba-ba-ba.

Castles in the sky make me cry make me laugh out loud now
Watching all the eagles fly in the sky makes me feel like dying
I work so hard now for what I need
I’m paying for a roof over my head and the air I’m breathing
Slave to the job I’m a prisoner of life
Slave to the job I’m just a number not a free man any more
Slave to the job I’m a prisoner of life
Slave to the job and I’ll work out my lonely life
Working on a nine to five just trying to earn some bread now
Working all the hours that God gives, don’t know where I’m heading
Given all I got now I’m so tired of giving
This work’s become my life now if you call that living
Slave to the job I’m a prisoner of life...
I’d just walk out and leave this place if there was a way now
I can’t break free there’s no place else so I just stay here
Trapped in a prison of my own creation
Running round in circles in my desperation
Slave to the job I’m a prisoner of life...

I never thought it would happen
With me and the girl from clapham
Out on a windy common
That night I ain't forgotten
When she dealt out the rations
With some or other passions
I said you are a lady
Perhaps she said I may be
We moved into a basement
With thoughts of our engagement
We stayed in by the telly
Although the room was smelly
We spent our time just kissing
The railway arms were missing
But love had got us hooked up
And all our time it took up
I got a job with Stanley
He said I'd come in handy
And started me on Monday
So I had a bath on Sunday
I worked eleven hours
And bought the girl some flowers
She said shed seen a doctor
And nothing now could stop her
I worked all through the winter
The weather brass and bitter
I put away a tenner
Each week to make her better
And when the time was ready
We had to sell the telly
Late evenings by the fire
With little kicks inside her
This morning at 4:50
I took her rather nifty
Down to an incubator
Where thirty minutes later
She gave birth to a daughter
Within a year a walker
She looked just like her mother
If there could be another
And now she's two years older
Her mother's with a soldier
She left me when my drinking
Became a proper stinging
The devil came and took me
From bar to street to bookie
No more nights by the telly
No more nights nappies smelling
Alone here in the kitchen
I feel theres something missing
I'd beg for some forgiveness
But begging's not my business
And she won't write a letter
Although I always tell her
And so it's my assumption
I'm really up the junction

Man of the World
Written by Peter Green.
Shall I tell you about my life
They say I'm a man of the world
I've flown across every tide
And I've seen lots of pretty girls
I guess I've got everything I need
I would't ask for more
And there's no one I'd rather be
But I just wish that I'd never been born
break:
And I need a good woman
to make me feel like a good man should
I don't say I'm a good man
Oh, but I would be if I could
I could tell you about my life
And keep you amused I'm sure
About all the times I've cried
And how I don't want to be sad anymore
And how I wish I was in love

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - The Curse of Millhaven
I live in a town called Millhaven
And it's small and it's mean and it's cold
But if you come around just as the sun goes down
You can watch the whole town turn to gold
It's around about then that I used to go a-roaming
Singing la la la la la la la lie
All Gods' children they all gotta die
My name is Loretta but I prefer Lottie
I'm closing in on my fifteenth year
And if you think you have seen a pair of eyes more green
Then you sure didn't see them around here
My hair is yellow and I'm always a-combing
La la la la la la la lie
Mama often told me we all got to die
You must have heard about the curse of Millhaven
How last Christmas Bill Blake's little boy didn't come home
They found him next week in One Mile Creek
His head bashed in and his pockets full of stones
Well, just imagine all the wailing and moaning
La la la la la la la lie
Even little Billy Blake's boy, he had to die
Then professor Orye from Millhaven High
Found nailed to his door his prize-winning terrier
Then next day the old fool brought little Biko to school
And we all had to watch as he buried her
His eulogy to Biko had all the tears a-flowing
La la la la la la la lie
Even God's little creatures, they have to die
Our little town fell into a state of shock
A lot of people were saying things that made little sense
Then the next thing you know the head of Handyman Joe
Was found in the fountain of the Mayor's residence
Foul play can really get a small town going
La la la la la la la lie
Even God's children all have to die
Then, in a cruel twist of fate, old Mrs Colgate
Was stabbed but the job was not complete
The last thing she said before the cops pronounced her dead
Was, my killer is loretta and she lives across the street!
Twenty cops burst through my door without even phoning
La la la la la la la lie
The young ones, the old ones, they all gotta die
Yes, it is I, Lottie. The curse of Millhaven
I've struck horror in the heart of this town
Like my eyes ain't green and my hair ain't yellow
It's more like the other way around
I gotta pretty little mouth underneath all the foaming
La la la la la la la lie
Sooner or later we all gotta die
Since I was no bigger than a weevil
they've been saying I was evil
That if bad was a boot that I'd fit it
That I'm a wicked young lady, but Ive been trying hard lately
Oh fuck it! I'm a monster! I admit it!
It makes me so mad my blood really starts a-going
La la la la la la la lie
Mama always told me that we all gotta die
Yeah, I drowned the Blakey kid, stabbed Mrs. Colgate, I admit
Did the handyman with his circular saw in his garden shed
But I never crucified little Biko, that was two junior high school psychos
Stinky Bohoon and his friend with the pumpkin-sized head
Ill sing to the lot, now you got me going
La la la la la la la lie
All God's children have all gotta die
There were all the others, all our sisters and brothers
You assumed were accidents, best forgotten
Recall the children who broke through the ice on lake Tahoo?
Everyone assumed the warning signs had
Followed them to the bottom
Well, they're underneath the house where I do quite a bit of stowing
La la la la la la la lie
Even twenty little children, they had to die
And the fire of 91 that razed the Bella Vista slum
There was the biggest shit-fight this country's ever seen
Insurance companies ruined, land lords getting sued
All cause of wee girl with a can of gasoline
Those flames really roared when the wind started blowing
La la la la la la la lie
Rich man, poor man, all got to die
Well I confessed to all these crimes and they put me on trial
I was laughing when they took me away
Off to the asylum in an old black Mariah
It ain't home, but you know, it's fucking better than jail
It ain't such a bad old place to have a home in
La la la la la la la lie
All God's children they all gotta die
Now I got shrinks that will not rest with their endless Rorschach tests
I keep telling them they're out to get me
They ask me if I feel remorse and I answer, why of course!
There is so much more I could have done if they'd let me!
So its Rorschach and Prozac and everything is groovy
Singing la la la la la la la lie
All God's children they all have to die
La la la la la la la lie
I'm happy as a lark and everything is fine
Singing la la la la la la la lie
Yeah, everything is groovy and everything is fine
Singing la la la la la la la lie
All God's children they gotta die

Chopping lines in international sand
Feeding blood junkie habits of the elephant man
Quenching his thirst with black water rising
Executive outcomes on a burning horizon
Yeah motherfucker let's take a ride
We're rolling route irish and someone has got to die
Trick or treat, it's IEDs
So roll the dice as we leave
'Cause it's 8 miles of pure luck with more bang for Sam's buck
Guaran-fucking-teed
Someone will bleed
Guaran-fucking-teed
Someone will bleed
Privatize to conceal all the lies
And big business is boomin' like its the 4th of July
No need for all the formalities
Jump the kangaroo courts and plant the lynching trees
Yeah motherfucker let's take a ride
Running red lights into a green zone someone has got to die
Hidden Aegis Nothing here to see
So load the dice for me please
And let's snort the bottom line crude cashed into refined
Guaran-fucking-teed
Just sign the deed
Guaran-fucking-teed
Someone will bleed
Someone has got to die
Ours is not to reason why
Ours is but to do if the pay rate's right
Black liquid assets fuck the Mujahideen
Paint their picket fences red with the American dream
Lay the hammer-hammer down get the job done right
Jacked up and clocked in into a firefight
Covert reactions and you never saw me
A glass parking lot in the American dream
They all die
Oh, fucking murder
Guaran-fucking-teed
Someone will bleed
Guaran-fucking-teed
Lay the hammer-hammer down get the job done right
Jacked up and clocked in into a firefight
Covert reactions and ya never saw me
A glass parking lot in the American dream

From the top of my head
To my tippy toes
I am in love
And it's starting to show
I want you to know
But don't know where to begin
I can outline my feelings
But I can't fill them in
Oh I am in love
And it's starting to grow
With its roots firmly planted
In the earth below
It's true what they say
You will reap what you sew
And grow wiser and stronger
In time
It's so easy to tell
There's an apple of my eye
I can't hide it so well
So I don't even try
You are an arrow
And my heart the bulls eye
You're a sure shot baby
Every time
I was walking in a circle
Staring down at my feet
When I met you half way
It felt strangely complete
Had a melody to play
But it kept missing the beat
Now I could carry that tune all the way
To the moon, to the moon
Oh my tongue hits the floor
At the thought of your touch
My heart next to yours
Skips double dutch
There isn't much more
That a girl could ask for
Please and thank you
Very much
Oh I am in love
And it's starting to show
From the tip of my cap
To the bottom of my sole
So talk me sweet
And dance me slow
Get me high
And dip me low
I am in love
And I want you to know
It grows wiser and stronger
In time

Band of Horses - No One's Gonna Love YouIt's looking like a limb torn off
Or altogether just taken apart
We're reeling through an endless fall
We are the ever-living ghost of what once was
But no one is ever gonna love you more than I do
No one's gonna love you more than I do
And anything to make you smile
It is my better side of you to admire
But they should never take so long
Just to be over then back to another one
But no one is ever gonna love you more than I do
No one's gonna love you more than I do
But someone,
They could have warned you
When things start splitting at the seams and now
The whole thing's tumbling down
Things start splitting at the seams and now
If things start splitting at the seams and now,
It's tumbling down
Hard.
Anything to make you smile
You are the ever-living ghost of what once was
I never want to hear you say
That you'd be better off
Or you liked it that way
But no one is ever gonna love you more than I do
No one's gonna love you more than I do
But someone
They should have warned you
When things start splitting at the seams and now
The whole thing's tumbling down
Things start splitting at the seams and now
If things start splitting at the seams and now,
It's tumbling down
Hard

Absolutely banging tune. Only recent band that springs to mind as not having any bad songs. There isn't a single one I dislike on any of their three albums to date, some achievement.
Also, having tried to play it many times, I can confirm that 'No One's Gonna Love You' only works when Ben Bridwell is singing it.

Been listening to Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip's Angles a lot recently (the best hip hop album of the last ten years...FACT). One of my faves...

Thou shalt not steal if there is a direct victim
Thou shalt not worship pop idols
Or follow lost prophets
Thou shalt not take the names of Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer, John Hartmond, Desmond Dekker, Jim Morrisson, Jimmy Hendrix or Sid Barrett in vain.
Thou shalt not think any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is a peadophile, some people are just nice.

Thou shalt not fall in love so easily
Thou shalt not use poetry, art or music to get into girls pants...
...use it to get into their heads.
Thou shalt not watch Hollyoaks
Thou shalt not attend an open mic and leave as soon as you've done your shitty little poem or song, you self-righteous prick.
Thou shalt not return to the same club or bar, week in, week out Because you once saw a girl there that you fancied; that you're never gonna fucking talk to.
Thou shalt not put musicians and recording artists on ridiculous pedestals.
No matter how great they are, or were.
The Beatles were just a band.

And one more. The "anti" suicide....
The Magician's Assistant
It's tragic; you tried to cut yourself in half,
But this isn't magic; in fact it's something much more dark, or more dramatic
Self harm, that's what they call it.
'Cause it just affects you.
It's your life, your body, so you can choose what you do,
And if one day you can't rein it in,
and of your last breath you are the only witness,
Then so be it, cause it's your last breath,
and it's nobody else's business.
But, how about your little sister?
I mean, you think your life's been bad,
And by no means am I belittling that,
cause I know the troubles you've had
But a teen finding out her sister chose death over life,
Finding out instead of turning to her with your problems, You turned to a knife
That's a whole lot of pain to deal with,
and a whole lot of damage
And the only role model she has is little more than words engraved in granite.
But as you said before, this just affects you.
It's your life, your body, so you can choose what you do.
And if one day you can't rein it in,
and of your last breath you are the only witness,
then so be it, cause it's your last breath,
and it's nobody else's business.
But then, how about your parents?
God knows they've done all they can to support.
Yeah, you didn't go up in a mansion,
But they gave you the best life they could afford,
And the second that last bit of life tickles out,
and your lungs cease to breath,
They've fail the most important task that they will ever receive.
They failed to give their child a life that's worth living,
And that's a failure as long as they live, of themselves, is unforgiving.
But as you said before, this just affects you.
It's your life, your body, so you can choose what you do.
And if one day you can't rein it in,
and of your last breath you are the only witness,
then so be it, cause it's your last breath,
and it's nobody else's business.
But, how about your friends?
How did they fail to see this coming?
I mean, you can only hold so much pain,
and recently it seems like the tap's been running.
Families grow distant, but it's meant to be your friends you can rely on.
They shouldn't be there for just fun and drinks.
They should be the shoulder to cry on.
They should be the ones you turn to,
when you can't talk to your family.
But they failed to because although you didn't ask for their support,
it should have been mandatory.
But as you said before, this just affects you.
It's your life, your body, so you can choose what you do.
And if one day you can't rein it in,
and of your last breath you are the only witness,
then so be it, cause it's your last breath,
and it's nobody else's business.
But then, what about me?
What kind of boyfriend am I?
Instead of living a life I was a big part of,
You would rather die.
Instead of fighting though together,
and turning things around,
You decided to grasp the greener
on the other side of the ground.
If I shared lives there was nothing worth living for as far as you could see.
So if that's the case for you
Then what is there left in this life for me?
But as you said before, this just affects you.
It's your life, your body, your sister, your parents, your friends, and your partner
so you can choose what you do.
And if one day you can't rein it in,
and of your last breath you are the only witness,
Then fuck everything else cause that's not something you've got to live with.

not enough people to listen.

The Loveboat - Julian Cope
From the Mothership stepped a freak,
A government leak!
and says our planet may be doomed,
So we're comin' to you
[We arrive next week!]
With our husbands
[and our wives]
Help us please,
To lead better lives! [to lead better lives!]
For days and days we waited,
our fingers crossed,
and our breath baited.
Well the days went by but we never saw that mothership.
Oh, no saucers in the sky, or even any other ship.
But our arms were open wide,
and we had this sense of pride,
and soon the world was filled with love and brothership.
This lovin' fills me good
When will they come?
I only hope they would
Then one day as I was walkin' 'cross the Marlborough Downs,
I felt the earth a-shakin' with a crazy sound,
The Mothership was here,
I thought my goose was cooked!
But luckily she'd only come for... one last look
Fwbwbwbwbwaah, Fwbwbwbwbweee, (what did the alien say?)
Bought up by a feelin'
Bought up by a feelin'
Bought up by a feelin'
Oooh oooh oooooooh...
Every mother, father, child,
Your planet existence is running wild
So celebrate the stars,
Who you are, who you are
This lovin' fills we good
When will they come?
I only hope they would
Oh yeah, but then it's all the same,
But if they don't come, at least I know my name.
Bought up by a feelin'
Bought up by a feelin'
Bought up by a feelin'

Sometimes I love Interpreter so damn much it hurts - I've played it so so many times it is without doubt my favourite album by anyone. It's daft, it's catchy, it has a point to make, and it seems to be such a scarcely discovered little jewel too (even by Cope's standards), which just serves to make it that extra bit special.

Bruce Springsteen - The River
I come from down in the valley
where mister when you're young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done
Me and Mary we met in high school
when she was just seventeen
We'd ride out of this valley down to where the fields were green
We'd go down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we'd ride
Then I got Mary pregnant
and man that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
and the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles no walk down the aisle
No flowers no wedding dress
That night we went down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we did ride
I got a job working construction for the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember
Mary acts like she don't care
But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now those memories come back to haunt me
they haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse
that sends me down to the river
though I know the river is dry
That sends me down to the river tonight
Down to the river
my baby and I
Oh down to the river we ride

I've never really been much a fan of Springsteen, apart from a select few tracks here and there over the years, but I've been hearing him in a different light just recently. Ever since hearing a couple of tracks from the recent Darkness Sessions release, I've actually been giving him the time of day - he's not bad, y'know.

In My Mind
In my mind
In a future five years from now
I'm a hundred and twenty pounds
And I never get hungover
Because I
Will be the picture of discipline
Never minding what state I'm in
And I will be someone I admire
And it's funny how I imagined
That I would be that person now
But it does not seem to have happened
Maybe I've just forgotten how
To see
That I'm not exactly the person that I thought I'd be.
And in my mind
In the far-away here-and-now
I've become in-control somehow
And I never lose my wallet
Because I
Will be the picture of discipline
Never fucking-up anything
And I'll be a good defensive driver
And it's funny how I imagined
That I would be that person now
But it does not seem to have happened
Maybe I've just forgotten how
To see
That I'll never be the person that I thought I'd be.
And in my mind
When I'm old I am beautiful,
Planting tulips and vegetables
Which I will mindfully watch over
Not like me now
I'm so busy with everything
That I don't look at anything
But I'm sure I'll look when I am older
And it's funny how I imagined
That I could be that person now
That that's not what I want
But that's what I wanted
That I'd be giving up somehow
How strange to see
That I don't want to be the person that I want to be.
And in my mind
I imagine so many things
Things that aren't really happening
And when they put me in the ground
I'll start pounding the lid,
Saying, "I haven't finished yet,
I still have a tattoo to get,
It says, 'I'm living in the moment'".
And it's funny how I imagined
That I could win this win-less fight
Maybe it isn't all that funny
That I've been fighting all my life
But maybe I have to think it's funny
If I want to live before I die
And maybe it's funniest of all
To think I'll die before I actually
See
That I am exactly the person that I want to be.
Fuck yes.
I am exactly the person that I want to be.
