Full Version: Obscure, But Absolute Gems

What obscure or odd bits and pieces of music off the telly, or elsewhere, do you know that to you are actually little gems? Is there a little piece of music you really like but no-one else seems to know about it?

For instance, I always liked the music in the junction idents from the schools programmes in the late 80s/early 90s. Especially the jaunty bit for the minute countdown.

Jaunty minute countdown

Whole revolving ident

The theme tune to Stop Look Listen was funky too but sadly very short.

Listen out for the kid's laugh at the start. It's brilliant.

The animated pinball segment of Sesame Street was always a favourite.

Until I could actually buy drugs of my own, in any case.

I always liked the theme to Juliet Bravo, too.

Damn not having Youtube at work.

The funky end credits to Howards Way.

"Somebody's nicked my bloody boat!"

You should hear the Marti Webb version.

And I should never have.

I have. Dad bought the single when it came out. It was written by the same bloke who wrote the Eastenders theme and subsequently Anita Dobson's vocal version.

Both awful.

But the funky closing music was great.

A Ruddles advert with Vivian Stanshall is a little oddity I've always liked.

Ooo!

The theme tune for The Two Ronnies' mini-serial The Detectives (who went by the names of Piggy Malone and Charley Farley) was always a corker. I loved it all the more when a DJ dropped it into his set prior to Orbital's gig at Somerset House.

Unfortunately there's no trace of any audio links online, although it did surface on the This Is... The Return Of Cult Fiction CD in '96/97.

Oh the nostalgia!

I loved that rotating ITV logo!
Reminds me of all the best things about the early 90's.

Here you go chum

You'll find loads of stuff here. Have fun. Although it has more American themes than anything else.

Rua you beauty. biggrin.gif I've was trying to get The Detectives tune in my mind after Ade mentioned it but couldn't help getting Like A Pen by The Knife after the first bit.

See, I knew it couldn't just be me.

I've just finally found out what the track on the Toshiba advert is. I really like this.

Vitalic - Trahison

Going through the link of TV themes Rua posted, I found a couple of other favourites:

Blackadder 3 closing

Talespin

Round The Twist
baking
the orchestral breakdown half-way through the "A-Team" theme tune is a trancendental bliss-out worthy of 'Pet Sounds'-era Beach Boys.

Love it! I find myself singing this on a frighteningly regular basis. Usually whenever I hear the word "twelve".

Ade's post in the TV thread of TV themes prompted me to seek out the theme to an old childhood favourite Mr Rossi. Though I thought I'd post it here in a shameless ploy to resurrect this thread.

Sun and flutes. What more do you want?

Anyone else remember Mr Rossi?

Funky
Has this ever been sampled for some proper music? It's brilliant.
ETA:
Which also reminds me, did anyone have the Fisher Price my first cassette recorder? It came in a lovely beige colour and with a yellow cassette that had funky instrumental versions of childrens' nursery rhymes and the like on it, which was fairly incredible. It's available as a torrent to download but no one's currently seeding at the moment, unfortunately.
