I think 'very meh' is being almost too generous.

Diary of the Dead was unbearable. Judging by this, I'd be amazed if it gets a cinema release at all. Please George, if you have to make more films, lay off the zombies a while - you've done it before and you can do it again.
Starscream`s Ghost
It looks like something you'd see on movies4men.

It'll make money, though. Certainly more than a non-zombie Romero film would.

A few films showing at next month's Frightfest

Triangle From the director of Severence

Infestation Meet The Applegates meets Eight Legged Freaks

The Horseman An Aussie Dead Man Walking?

The Shadow Italian nutters in the wilderness flick

La Horde Considering that the French have made some of the best, most interesting horror films in recent years, a French Zombie film is a rather mouthwatering prospect

Smash Cut Not too original an idea. Straight to DVD methinks

Giallo Adrien Brody directed by Argento

Trick 'r Treat There's been a buzz about this anthology for nearly a year on the festival circuit. Looks it may be going straight to DVD

VAMPIRE GIRL VS. FRANKENSTEIN GIRL From the makers of Tokyo Gore Police

More to come

More Frightfest

Dead Snow Norwegian Zombie Nazi film. Great fun

CASE 39 Renee Zellweger goes all scream queen

The Descent 2 How can Macdonald be in the sequel? Well on the US release they stuck with the "happy" ending.

I Sell The Dead Ron Perlman & Dominic Monaghan in Amicus/Hammer style horror

Best Worst Movie Documentary about Troll 2. The best worst movie ever

I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW Documentary about pop starlet Tiffany's 2 big obsessive fans

Colin The British £45 zombie film

Salvage Reading the synopsis, [REC] meets Right At Your Door...in Liverpool

Evil Things Blair Witch but with a slasher

Pontypool Very good radio station based "virus" movie

Other stuff

The Firm Nick Love's remake of the BBC/Gary Oldman classic. Seems to go for the casual angle rather than the yuppie. If anything, Love can do 80's nostalgia well. Alas, no farkin Danny Dyer.

Pretty, Baby, Machine if this happens, the cast is mouth watering.

Gamer from the makers of Crank. A bit like Running Man

The Book Of Eli post-apocalyptic action with Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman

Pandorm a bit like Event Horizon

Diagnosis: Death Bret, Jemaine & Murray in straight to DVD comedy/horror

The trailer/synopsis makes it sound horrible compulsive watching - I half do and don't want to see it.

I didn't realise there'd been an alternate ending for the US release.
I'm quite interested in Book of ELi as well...

I want to see Gamer. I am counting on it being a bit lame but it has some pretty men.

They are remaking "The Firm"? No Steve Mitchell in it this time.

I don't think the world needs another organised football violence movie.

An incredible trailer. Just wonderful. It will be a sad day when there isn't a new Coen Brothers film to look forward to.

Awwww! This is one of my favourite Roald Dahl books ever. This looks wonderfully in the spirit of the book.

I'm impressed that it still feels like a Wes Anderson film even though he has decided to utilise an entirely different artform to what he usually uses to realise it. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

That looks awesome. The 'Wes Anderson'-ness of it is probably aided by the cast with Schwartzman, Wilson and Murray in it. It looks, dare I say, fantastic.

Good trailer but I'm remaining cautious. I'm still a tad bitter after their last good trailer led to a sub-par film.

The Lovely Bones trailer

Though I've heard very little good about the book, the trailer has intrigued me. Some of the effects do look marvelous.
Starscream`s Ghost
It's not a great book, that's true. Sadly. all the effects in the world don't make up for that.
Raven
Bryan Singer to helm Galactica's Big Screen Outing.

The film "promises 'complete reimagining' of sci-fi series" - I can see that phrase making a lot of people very unhappy!

Give it to Ron Moore and Co. I say!

Bryan Singer

fuck. it's this name which saddens me...
Raven
He did a good job with the first two X-Men films . . .
dandan
really? they're mildly diverting at best. as for 'superman returns'; absolute bollocks. i'd rather they just stuck with the team who did the series, unless it's going to be completely unrelated to it, barring the connection to the original series...
Raven
I've never read the X-Men comics, but I thought the first two films were pretty good - the first isn't a bad set up film and the second was a pretty good sequel. For what they are I would say they are towards the top end of superhero films (certainly better than Daredevil and Hulk etc) and they were waaaaaaaaay better than X3.

Minus the kiddy bits, I really enjoyed Superman Returns when I saw it in the cinema, but on subsequent viewings I've had to admit it is a fairly weak re-tread of the original.

I'm not holding out any great hopes for this, however - someone just looks to be trying to make some cash off of the back of the TV series, and I can't see a one-off film meeting the standards the series did.

Part of me is also wondering if this is only being made because of the recent success Star Trek had.
Rua
I really can't see how Battlestar could work as a movie, unless they're planning a succession of films or a Trilogy or something.

I'll reserve judgement obviously but I'm not excited about this.
Raven
My guess would be a re-tread of the opening story from the original TV series, which was released as a film in the UK in the wake of Star Wars.

It would be very cool to see the TV series cast etc on the large screen though . . .
Zoe
'Gentlemen Broncos' trailer.

Bringing the world of Napoleon Dynamite together with the world of overblown SF seems like a Spaced-out dream come true.

If the film's as funny as the trailer this should be brilliant.

I'm pleased that it looks like a good vehicle for Jermaine after the almost unbearably twee and self-conciously 'indie' 'Eagle vs Shark'
Rua
Looks good.

There is a lot of Matt Berry in that performance by Jermaine Clement.

You should try the book, though it gets incredibly sentimental, verging on the mawkish, towards the end it has a lot to recommend it.

I have high hopes that the similar combination of harrowing crime and magic realism will produce something as good as Jackson managed with 'Heavenly Creatures'. He was also very good at removing the naffer elements of LotR in his screenplay, so fingers crossed he'll manage the same trick here.

Eerily similar to what I wrote about the trailer on my blog. I'm trying with The Lovely Bones. I've got about 110 pages in but then stopped and read two Christopher Moore books. I intend to finish it. I might use my day off tomorrow to break the back of it.
Zoe
wow, pretty harsh blogging on a book you haven't read, all the way through, yet. i read it about a year before it was picked for r&j's book club, my dad recommended it. they do pick some decent books, 'this book will save your life' is incredible.

i do wish they'd have stuck with the stickers, rather than including the r&j symbol on the cover. it ruins the design, and makes it look like you've picked a book on the basis of a teatime talk show even if you haven't. mind you 'this book will save your life' has a cover that makes it look like a self-help book for fatties, so it can't get much worse

It's not much of a defense, but I really, really have not enjoyed what I have read so far. The end may redeem it, but it really is not a book that I have enjoyed reading so far.

This Book Will Save Your Life is fantastic, but it does have one of the worst covers I've ever seen. To the extent that I did not pay it any attention until you and Sostie started talking about it. It just looked like a self-help book, rather than a brilliant novel.

Stupid as it may seem, despite it being one of my favourite films, the Magic Realism aspect of Heavenly Creatures never occured to me til you mentioned it just now.

Tom Bombadil was a pimp! He did a good job of getting past Gandalfs "trippy as shit ressurection" as well, it was never really clear to me in the books what happened; not that the film explains it really, but at least he didn't gloss over it completely and cut it out
