We used to watch Blackadder in History class. Always the same episode as well.

Our Y9 History teacher put an episode on once, but all the charvas (chavs) talked through it. mad.gif

The one where they go over the top? We had that one.

We watched Little Big Man and Blazin' Saddles in History when we were studying The American West.

I convinced my history teacher to let us watch Garth Marenghi's Darkplace on the last day of term a few years back. Turns out she was in footlights with Richard Ayoade and Matt Holness and was surprised to see them in it.

Any word on a UK release for Whatever Works yet?

None. My work gets pretty much all of his films and we've heard nothing whatsoever. I know the film wasn't a massive success Stateside (especially compared to VCB, which is at the high end of Allen's 00's work) but it seems like it would do better over here, if only for the wider familiarity people have with Larry David.

At Uni we were advised to watch Blackadder III - the one about the election - to be advised on the actual process of becoming an MP in the 18th century. No really. Apparently some parts of it were very accurate - although whether there was a 'Standing at the back looking stupid and being stupid' party, i doubt it.

You'd think so wouldn't you? It was actually the Bob/Lord Flash episode from Blackadder II.

Apparently they've finished production on Boondock Saints 2: All Saint's Day. This can not possibly be a good idea, unless we're going to get Overnight 2: Duffy Goes Batshitter as part of the deal.
NiteFall
Apparently Guy Ritchie has signed up to direct a Lobo film. I for one cannot wait to see the exploits of everyone's favourite indestructible psychotic Czarnian bounty hunter somehow reimagined as a wanky East End gangster flick.
Starscream`s Ghost
Yeah, I'd heard that too. Really not sure how to feel about it.

See that does sound like a bad idea, but I actually like Boondock Saints quite a bit. The plot's not the world's greatest thing, for sure, but the flashback-gunfight was good fun, Willem Dafoe goes apeshit a lot and someone gets killed with a toilet. These factors (and the very slick killing scenes in the opening third) make it a good movie from my perspective. It got slammed generally didn't it?

I'm not sure how it did, critically, but the opinions I've heard about it have veered from ''It's amazing!" to "It's horrible!" with almost no middle ground. I lean towards the latter because it seems, to me, to be little more than a piece of sub-Tarantino gun-porn that I found quite boring, with the exception of Willem Dafoe, whose performance is great to watch but is in a film that is undeserving of it.

Paranormal Activity

It seems to be getting very good reviews. I've seen a UK release date for 27 November, don't know how accurate that is though.

I'm sure this must have already been posted somewhere earlier but I think Zombieland looks mighty fun.

Does anyone have a translation of the title of the clip? Babel Fish is not too good. It translates the first two characters (starting at the left) as Sets up but doesn't do anything with the final two.

The last two characters are 'suru' which is just the infinitive ending to the verb i.e. "to -", so are not important to the meaning. It's setsuritsu-suru, which means 'to establish', so I would assume it means in the context of this being an establishing shot or video.

The cycle will be broken!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...ie-version.html

After five years of hearing the same lines over and over again at 6pm and again at 8, we will finally hear our Friends say something different.

Could I BE any more excited? Considerably; but it will be interesting to see how they attempt to pull off moving the epitome of small screen entertainment into a cinema.

I won't believe it until I see it.
Starscream`s Ghost
Does it even need a movie? I thought it ended really well.
sweetbutinsane
It did. I'm in two minds about the whole film thing (if it is true, that is). Part of me thinks they should just leave it, but the other part is going "Wooo, more Friends!"

In other news, The Men Who Stare At Goats looks good fun. smile.gif

The Crazies

Could be ok in a 'b-movie you've seen a million times before' way. Doesn't look a patch on the Romero's midnight movie original (I'm pretty confident the father/daughter incest scene won't be in there) nor does it look like it has any of the promise of last year's similarly plotted The Signal.

Was that any good?
logger
It was alright despite it really being three short films of different styles. But I think once you're aware of this it doesn't seem to make that much difference, whereas I was surprised the first time I saw it. It's not as good as it could have been but is still a fun, schlocky horror.

I like the look of Clash of the Titans in Empire. They are changing the story so that Burgess is now Io, played by Gemma Arterton. Whether Gemma will turn into a cow like the original demi-goddess is something else. They also stuck a Djinn in it - not sure that kind of cross-mythological story works for me especially since he has a notably Arabic name and the Qu'ran is hardly parallel with Bronze Age Greece (not exactly - it doesn't really specify timescale I guess). Oh well - that's Hollywood for you. Calibos was made-up and so was the mechanical owl (which I like).

Even so - Neeson looks pretty cool in his Excalibur meets Bram Stoker's Dracula look and the cast is pretty impressive.

Paranormal Activity

It's being touted as a spiritual successor to The Blair With Project which, whilst lazy, does seem to be very apt as it made $7 million this weekend in the US from only 159 theatres, based solely on word-of-mouth and internet marketing.

I hope it makes it to these shores since it sounds really cool and the reviews have been ecstatic.
