Sounds like MacFarlane and Groening are reading from the same script:

MacFarlane discusses 'Family Guy' movie and Groening confirms 'Simpsons' sequel.

And Dudley Moore's '10' to be remade - on God's Earth, why?!

I think the Watchmen trailer looks rather cool and I am pretty sure it will get a decent audience beyond just the fanboys/girls whose expectations, if the reaction to the initial trailer is anything to go by, will never be met. Which happens with many adaptions.

I think it looks better than most comic book movies that have come along in recent years and I look forward to seeing how it turns out,

You know, right after my most recent bit of criticism about the trailer and it not appealing to non-fans, someone at work looked over my shoulder as I was watching the trailer again and they said ''that looks fucking amazing'', so clearly I know fuck all.

Jeepers Creepers. The straight-down aerial shots turn my stomach like you wouldn't believe, but I still really want to see this film:

Indeed. I think I'm right in thinking that everyone who's commented on the trailer so far on here has read the graphic novel, and therefore can only guess what someone who hasn't would think.

I showed it to my sister (who'd never even heard of Watchmen until I asked her earlier) and she thought it looked like a good watch and will be going to see it. We could do with a few opinions from people on here who've not read it, really.

I liked the book, and hated the trailer.

Same here. I have no real expectations. They market the trailer to grab in people who have no prior awareness to the comic. I have limited knowledge of it and I would be interested in seeing the film from the trailer. If this makes me somewhat unworthy, so be it. I don't care - I'm not a big comic fan and never have been. But I can see why this would be a disappointment if you were.

And of course, the comic (like a novel) is a different entity. I don't expect them to be the same.

I'm not sure if this is aimed at me, but just in case, I'm not saying that people who are drawn in by the trailer who aren't aware of the comic are unworthy in any way, just that I didn't think that it showed enough to entice that audience or did enough to sell it as anything other than just another comic book adaptation, which it shouldn't be since the source material is really very good. I'm quite happy that, based on what I have heard now, having shown it to a few people who are unfamiliar with the comic, that I couldn't have been more wrong about it.

I'm betting on the latter, and it's a damn shame, too.

I'm pinning my hopes on the fact that the story has been written by The Shield creator/writer Shawn Ryan.

Not getting my hopes up too high though.

Heh. Interesting, because I believe Phoenix was under consideration when Paul Greengrass was attached. Not for Dr. Manhattan, though, Nite Owl I think.

Didn't even know they were making a movie of this. The game is one of my favourites of all time so I hope they do it justice. It's got a really good plot so if they follow that they should be able to make it a great film. Wahlberg knows what he's doing action-wise, though 'm not sure if he's the correct choice. I see Max as more of a Sean Penn: intense, sombre and vengeful.

But hey, at least Uwe Boll isn't directing it.

Also, when he's flamethrowing the Viet Cong, doesn't Jeffrey Dean Morgan look a bit like Robert Downey Jr. if he'd been dropped into the cauldron of magic potion as a baby rather than a pile of blow?

It was very formulaic (on secondary viewing) for the reasons Adam pointed out but the ideas shown (which are ultimately from the comic) are intriguing even in a cheesy, slo-mo goth rock promo way. All film promos about 'superheroes' kinda look like this now. It is to be expected now. Studios control the promos and they aren't daring or original.

And - for people with a vague awareness of the characters (such as I), I was far far more interested in finding out about Dr Manhattan, Roscharch and the Comedian precisely because they aren't dressed in spandex and doing the same-old stuff. They are very different from the norm usual 'superheroes' stock characters (such as the misunderstood annoying adolescent or anti-hero in the wilderness etc etc) and have since looked more into the movie as a result.

Re-watching the trailer, I thought some of it seemed a bit X-Men even down to the actress playing Silk Spectre II channelling Rebecca Romijn with her slinky walk. But hopefully - that is just the trailer. And I also saw the Downey Jr comparison too.

"Batnipple chips, get 'em while they're 'ot, they're lovely!"

As for the trailer, I squeed a little. As a huge fan of the novel, I thought it teased enough for me, and still put on a nice show for newcomers to the story without actually giving anything away. That's a crucial thing for me, as trailers tend to reveal everything about poor movies. I definitely think it's been tailored for the Dark Knight audience, and rightly so.

I hadn't watched the Watchmen trailer on here as I knew I was going to see the Dark Knight and wanted to see it on the big screen but it wasn't on it which was annoying. Just watched it online though and I think it looks pretty good, in particular the shot of the Comedian in Vietnam. I'm planning on re-reading it at the weekend though so I should hopefully recognise a few more bits and pieces from the trailer after a refresh.

I see what people mean about the very generic super-hero movie-ness of the trailer and I had thought that maybe this one would be super-heroey and the next trailer would be very anti-heroey to show the balance that's in the books, but now I kind of doubt it.

(there are a lot of "-eys" and hyphens in that post)

The trailers where already running when I got in the cinema yesterday, the throng where laughing heartily at Disaster Movie or something when I entered, so I thought I had missed the Watchmen trailer. So it wasn't shown anywhere in the UK?

I dunno, I think it has some potential mileage, just so long as it's done well and the script is better than Ghostbusters 2. Even so, it may well be tricky to recapture the essence of the original - it had very much its own style. But it does look a little dated now in places, so I'd certainly be interested in an updated progression of the story than a remake per se.

Happy to read too that the Ghostbusters videogame is also due for release in the autumn.

They may be wrong about that, I'm sure I've read something this week - may have even been on here - that the future of the game (and quite a few others) is in doubt because of some redundancies made in the company producing it (Activision? I'm not sure).

Hmmm.

Baffling. I just found THIS which would suggest otherwise, and furthermore, Activision have allegedly stated that they are not dropping Ghostbusters, and that it is on its way.
