Good news for cinema-goers, bad news for paedos?

QUOTE (yahoo news)
Great news for adult cinemagoers who hate seeing mainstream films like the new Bond flick and Harry Potter series ruined by screaming kids - a cinema chain is to have over-18 only screenings for certain films.

UK cinema chain Vue are to show a series of selected PG, 12A, 15 rated movies to adults only in their cinemas after a successful trial last year. Quantum of Solace (pic), which is rated 12A, will be the first film to get the adult only treatment starting from today.

Vue's Mark de Quervain said, "These screenings have been launched in direct response to overwhelming positive customer feedback obtained from extensive research studies and trials carried out over the past year.

"This confirmed a significant number of cinema goers wanted to see PG, 12A and 15-rated films in screenings that could avoid unwanted disruptions that can sometimes be caused by audiences under the age of 18."

Forthcoming movies like The Day The Earth Stood Still and Australia will get adult only screenings.

Vue's website is asking cinemagoers which future films they would like to see in age restricted screenings, including the final Harry Potter chapters.

I must say, I haven't been bothered by kids for many years, but then I probably see films later in the evening, and which are not age-suitable anyway. Wall-E was the last movie I saw with a significant number of younglings watching, and their childish enthusiasm during the movie almost enhanced the experience!

Can we just have 'no twats' screenings instead?

Dreamworks' animated yarn Monsters Vs. Aliens looks jolly good fun, judging by the teaser trailer.

Coming to IMAX too. Might be worth a peep.

edit: roll call for vocal duties:

Seth Rogen
Will Arnett
Paul Rudd
Hugh Laurie (Dr Cockroach!)
Reese Witherspoon
Kiefer Sutherland
Rainn Wilson
Stephen Colbert (The President of the United States!)

Amen to that.

I don't have a problem with kids in cinemas provided the child is old enough to understand what is going on, doesn't keep getting up and down and doesn't talk all through the film.

Hopefully Cineworld will adopt a similar policy.

Been super excited about this one for a while, moreso than any animated film Dreamworks has done in ages. (Never was much of a Shrek fan, to be honest.)

What they don't mention there is the policy on the over 18 screenings also all have a member of staff in the screen for the entire film, ensuring that if anyone does act like a tool they get warned and / or thrown out depending on how much and how persistant their toolishness is. This is the reason why I got paid today to watch Cornflake of Doris three times and do no actual work.

They do kids screenings. There are specific kids screenings on at 10am every weekend and every day when the school holidays are on. I hate them, as they mean that I actually have to start work in the morning some days.

I'd never heard of it until yesterday. Watched the trailer about six times now. It looks great, and the casting choices are pretty hip and happening too. smile.gif

I was referring to the 'no kids screenings', not no 'kids screenings'.

It was a confusing sentence.

I just got back from seeing Quantum of Solace. Two Dads came in with a troupe of 5 kids, sat them all beside my and my friend then found themselves seats two rows back. All we had for the entire film was 5 boys laughing, making noises and talking everytime someone got kissed/a fight occured/ something blew up/ a man said balls.

12a means yes, you can bring your younger kids along should you deem it suitable for them to watch. If they are going to squeal and laugh everytime something 'grown up' happens , then get bored half way through so decide to play and talk instead of watch then as far as I am concerned it is not suitable for them.

I'm all for being able to watch a movie in a cinema without kids yammering their way through it. It sounds like a good idea to me.

I'm now wondering if these 'adult only' screenings are in fact a ploy to get rid of all the grumpy old gits.

They can safely be quarantined to a room where children's laugher won't offend their grumpy ears.

That's fine with me!
Starscream`s Ghost
Me too. I honestly don't see why I should pay a lot of money (and to see a movie at a cinema these days it is expensive) to see a movie, only to have it ruined by someone's little hellspawn yakking and screeching in the background. Let them have screenings, but let those of us who don't want that have screenings too. After all, they have such things as adult swims in swimming pools, and no one seems to mind that.

I guess if you start turning up at the cinema in your swimming trunks it just might dissuade parents from bringing their children to future screenings.

Granted, it'd probably get you barred, but it's just a thought.

First proper trailer for Pixar's 'Up'

Looks good, though I'm not feeling the sort of excitement I usually feel when I see stuff about a new Pixar film. Still, the concept alone is pretty interesting and should make for some wonderful visuals.

Strong proof that Devlin & Emmerich's '2012' is going to be utter cack: They've just aped 'The Shining' teaser. It's even the same music. That's a step beyond homage if you ask me. Shenanigans!
