Von Trier lives in the cuckoo tree full of mad directors who shout and call people stupid.

Is Lars von Trier the arthouse Uwe Boll? Or is Uwe Boll the B-schlock Lars von Trier? Or neither?
Discuss.
(My answer? Neither - what a stupid question)

I adore him, he can shout at me any time he likes. I'd add 'Manderlay' and 'The Boss of it all' to that list.
And a lot of successful actors could do with a dose of being shouted at, I've seen enough of them do the same to other people.
Will we ever see 'Wasington' I wonder.

Yup.
I presume it's the not acting in your native tongue thing, because she's was fabulous in The Boss of it all. Her timing is impeccable.
'High Fidelity' is great though and you should watch it. I've also warmed to Iben's character Laura immensely since seeing her being fucked over a desk in Danish.

He is a great talent but as with lots of such folk, a complete eccentric and probably unpleasant to work for but then again - it's part of the gig. I liked "The Kingdom" and "Europa" very much. I also liked "Dogville". But "Dancer in the Dark" and "The Idiots" left me very cold.
He once was on Eurotrash talking about his massive porn collection. And showing his large flapping manhood. I think he even sat in a tree.

Like the little girl with the curl - when it's good, it's very very good. And when it's bad, it's horrid.
For a Dogme film, I found 'The Idiots' to be very very self-aware and contrived. Irony there.

I like the idea and think that the aesthetic can be used well but that The Idiots was not a good use of it. I found the film boring and uninteresting, with characters that I didn't care a jot for and a story that did not engage me. I thought that the fact that it was dogme was inconsequential, I just couldn't stand it as a film.

I wasn't a huge fan of Old School, though it had it's moments. I'm all over this like white on rice, though, simply for casting. I can't imagine that Brad Cooper, Ed Helms AND Zach Galifianakis wont' make for something worthwhile.

He does at that. I did think whilst watching it ''He even moves like Mastroianni'', as if he's channeling the exact worldweariness that the original film had. It also looks a tad weirder than I would have expected. Not Fellini weird, but at least weird enough that I'm a tad more interested than I was before.

I find her far more appealing in motion than in photography (where she often looks like one of those scary mug dollies). In film, Lily is like a lanky cross between Christina Ricci and Julianne Moore but with a public school rogue of an accent. In terms of interesting quirky ingenue, she'll go far and I look forward to seeing her onscreen.

Ritchie 'Working On Guys And Dolls'
27 May 2009 1:00 AM, PDT
Guy Ritchie is set to branch out from the world of gangster cinema - the filmmaker is reportedly in Hollywood to begin writing a script for a remake of Guys And Dolls.
The director, best known for his London-based crime films, is said to have roped in movie hardman Jason Statham to show off his vocal talents in a reworking of the classic musical, which originally starred Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Guy has been on the case with the idea of making a musical recently. He had been throwing ideas around with Jason Statham about writing their own musical.
"Guy has had a lot of meetings with top studio bosses about other projects but the Guys And Dolls idea really tickled him."
But Ritchie could be sticking to a familiar formula when shooting begins - he is apparently considering basing the song-and-dance classic in his native Britain.
The insider adds: "He is torn between keeping the script true to the original in New York and taking it to familiar surroundings in London."
