So the press release starts, would that be to follow in the footsteps of other 'epic' science fiction series the BBC have produced, like Invasion Earth and err, well that's me pretty much stumped . . .

Let's face it British TV is good at producing quirky small-scale science fiction, but 'epic' is a term that has very rarely applied.

After the hatchet job Triffids was at Christmas, I'm not holding my breath for this.

If they only have the same budget given to period drama they might achieve something!

I think the brief points to the series being more reliant on location and sets than on effects. That they are filming in South Africa points to the BBC throwing some money at this, but the colony setting implies to me that this may not be very effects intensive (that could be a good or bad thing!).

I know I've not got much information to go on, and that I'm possibly pre-judging this unfairly, but I remember the hype they generated around the lack-lustre Invasion Earth and this seems to be in a very similar mould.

Sounds a lot like Lost, but it sounds good.

Might be one to watch.
