Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will be hosting the drivetime show on London's XFM radio Station starting this friday (27/2/04) for the next 4 weeks so be expecting plenty of good music, banter and I'm sure they'll throw in the occasional reference to Shaun of the Dead.
XFM is transmitted on 104.9 in London
Those of you who live outside the M25 can still get to hear it on DAB, Sky 864, NTL 891 or
ONLINE

Thank God I've got a DAB radio now, so I can listen to Mr. Pegg and Mr. Frost in the comfort of my futon!

Yeah when's drivetime, Mr Downsy?
Ahem... between 4 and 7 PM. Replacing Richard Bacon for the next 4 weeks.

Depends:
- You could tape the show then listen to it when you're in the car
- You could listen to the show when it's on, and not bother with the driving bit.
Up to you really.

Although I sense you were just being silly.

I'm listening to it now, a full 75 metres away from my car!

I feel dirty and yet satisfied all at once...

I don't even have a car and I'm listening to them.
To top it off I'm not even in London, so were I to have a car I still couldn't listen to them whilst driving. If I did I think it would have to involve lots of cabling, and that would just be silly.
Silly.

Problem solved....
I turned up the stereo and went and sat on the drive, whilst holding a big clock.
They're coming in loud and clear.
Or at least they would be if it wasn't for the STUPID FECKIN PIRATES WHO ARE CLEVERLY AVOIDING DETECTION BY BROADCASTING RIGHT OVER XFM!!

He said that they're trying to get some specials done. There's other commitments and stüffe to get around, obviously, but it's something they really want to do. It's not a third series, but let's keep our fingers crossed

I have a mate who sometimes streams radio onto his hard drive. If he were to record XFM's Drivetime show with Simon and Nick, who here would be interested in having the file as an mp3?
RichP
Feb 28 2004, 10:43 AM
I wouldn't mind a copy of the show with most of the music removed.

RichP, now your asking!
But, thegimp, if you could arrange it your name would be eternally rejoiced in songs

I'll set it in motion. It may be put up as a torrent file.
TheGimp
Feb 28 2004, 09:34 PM
On a similar note, if anyone has any recordings of 'The 99p Challenge', or 'The Sofa Of Time' kicking around, I'd appreciate a copy. Also looking for any recordings of 'Asylum' or Simon Pegg stand-up routines.
I did see listed on the BBC7 website the airing of a 99p Challenge episode on Monday at 2330, repeated on Tuesday at 0500.
RichP
Feb 29 2004, 07:22 PM
I've got 3 episodes of the 99p challenge off this very site and very amusing they are too, except for sue perkins, she's garbage. My favourite bit of all 3 episodes is Simon's take on the Close Encounters of the Third Kind theme. You have to listen to it really.
Also a note to the gimp, I'm not fully versed in the strange ways of torrent so if someone could give me a quick tutorial that'd be splendid.
Ooh yes and another question for the gimp, is it possible for you or someone to record the Ricky Gervais highlights off XFM so I don't have to keep going back to the site in order to hear them?
much thanks
Jubei
Feb 29 2004, 07:34 PM
TheGimp, I also would be very interested as I don't have DAB, Sky, Cable, proximity to fair London or any other means, foul or fair, to hear the show!
RichP

You could listen online Jubei. If you do, go and have a listen to Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's highlights, funny stüffe..........funny stüffe.

TheGimp
Mar 1 2004, 10:23 PM
I'll see what we can do.
With regards torrents, I'm not really that versed myself, but my mate is.
You should probably check out the BitTorrent website, 'cause it'll have a tutorial. You need to download the BitTorrent software, and set it up (which isn't too hard) and then Bob's yer Auntie.
That is, of course, if it goes up on torrent anyway...
thanks for the pointer, RichP, I'll take a look.

Hi, I see my good friend TheGimp has given you the information you require about myself recording the audio from the radio and posting it here.
Here ya go. Just recorded this episode off BBC7 radio (01-Mar-2004) and it features Simon Pegg.
The 99p Challenge.mp3It also features Peter Serafinowicz, Jack Docherty and Armando Ianucchi (ok, ok, you spell it:))
Its an MP3 file at 192kbps (24bit audio as it was taken from digital radio straight onto my HD) and you might need broadband as its 32.7Mb.
In the future I'll be posting MP3 files at 128kbps to keep the file size down as not everyone has broadband.
I've just got myself a new full-time job so as for the recordings of XFM I can't guarantee I'll be able to be home in time to grab it. I've found the relevant software, now all I need to do is install it and hope to be back on time.
Watch this space.

Yes, I can do that, no problem, very easy!
As mentioned earlier, hope to be home before it starts. I'll be in touch soon about using torrents, probably Tuesday evening (tomorrow).

Well, folks, it didn't go according to plan.
Sorry to say, we didn't manage to record today's XFM Drivetime show.
I did, of course, listen to it, and very funny it was too. The only sore point was when I tried to enter the 'Shaun Of The Dead' poster compo, only to be beaten to it by a bunch of f****and' psychic competition entrants (you know whow you are, ya barstewards). Suffice to say, I didn't win a poster.
We will try to record next weeks, which apparently is the last.

Well folks, I've just installed, configured and tested the software required to allow me to stream XFM onto my hard drive and can happily say, IT WORKS!
The quality of the audio is exactly how it sounds on the "hi" connection. In other words, no, I can't remove the "tinny" effect.
I will do my best to make sure the next episode gets recorded and if successful, will edit out all the music so its quicker to download.

I've just checked and yep, they are still here.
Go to the Spaced out main page, click multimedia, scroll down and click 99p challenge images/audio (there's a big picture of Pegg's beaming face), and download the clips in quicktime.

I recorded last weeks show, missed the 1st 1/2 hour though.

I have converted it to wav, but I know nothing about editing out commercials. Is it easy to do? If someone tells me how to do it and what "free" program will do this, i'll edit them, convert to MP3 and let you all leech em from me for a day or 2.

Xfm now have a "SuperHi" Quality stream:
http://www.xfm.co.uk/Article.asp?id=20531you have to install a tiny application - like audiogalaxy or kazaa or napster or whatever.
Pegg & Frost on from 4pm tomorrow

Okay, kids, this is the big one...
We got the show. The ENTIRE last show of Simon & Nick on XFM Drivetime.

Yes, all hail us.
It'll go up for download in the next few days, after converting and tidying.
Enjoy.

It's done! WE
MIGHT BE GODS!
The last ever Drivetime which was broadcast on Friday 12 March 2004 from 5-8pm is now available for download as an MP3 file! While I was out at work, TheGimp started my machine streaming XFM from the super-hi connection (48kHz) straight onto my hard drive. Today, I edited this 1.79Gb WAV file, edited out all the music, news and adverts and saved it out as a 44.1kHz MP3 at 128kbps. Its now only 44.5Mb so shouldn't take long to download on broadband.
xfm_simonandnick-12030204.zipJust right click and select "Save Target As..." from the menu to download and keep. If you're using a Mac, command-click and select "Save To Disk". Its a ZIP file which you'll need to extract using
WinZip.
I had to boost the volume by 250% to make it loud enough as the stream was very quiet.
Enjoy!
