The first series of both Buck Rogers and Quantum Leap will be released on DVD on the 8th November.

You can find out more about this here on the BBC's Cult web site.

Personally I'm not too fussed about Quantum Leap, but I wouldn't mind a copy of Buck Rogers.

Nothing at all to do with Wilma Dearing.

Nothing at all.

If you've spotted any cool future DVD releases, post them here so we can all have a butchers!
Lazlo Woodbine
well 'Big Train' is out on the 25th of this month.
and the rather disturbing series one of 'Monkey Dust' is on november 8th.
J.R
Dawn Of The Dead (2004) is released on the 25th as well.

Not to many extras on it for the UK release so expect a SuperDuperCollectorsEdition soon after. but The Extras this it does have our supposed to be good, and the film is rather great for an Action Film....less so for Horror.
Baz
Sod the remake, I want the big 4 disk collectors dvd of the orginal film.

Don't you mean Goldfrappy?! biggrin.gif

Incidentally, you may be interested to know that the official Goldfrapp website,
are still offering a limited number of free black cardboard slipcases for the DVD
(mine turned up on Saturday) - get in quick before it's too late, boys and girls!

In further Doctor Who DVD news the Patrick Troughton story The Mind Robber looks to be the March 2005 release, with the Jon Pertwee story The Claws of Axos to follow later in the year (Outpost Gallifrey believes this will actually be the May release).

All very good, but what I want to know is when are they going to get around to Genesis of the Daleks?! smile.gif
Amazongirl
Unbeliveably, the Dead Leaves anime/manga comes out on monday 11th October.
Its only just been released in the US!

It looks crazy, Tankgirl/Gorillaz style. Im getting it.

I know, they seem to be pretty much plesing themselves and releasing in no particular order. I'm one of the rare breed who really enjoyed the Sylvester McCoy years (I was very young at the time smile.gif ) and can't wait for the rest of his adventures to be released.

Looking forward to Little Britain and the Office Christmas special cause we only have the second part on vid and I've forgotten what happens in the first part.. not that it matters considering the second part *goes off into dream of Tim & Dawn loviness* sigh....

I really hope the boxset out in November doesn't have extra bits mad.gif

Completely forgot series 3 of Black Books would have been worth getting cause Simon's in the first episode, I went to the filming and him and Bill laffed a lot, there's nothing funnier than watching other people trying not to laff imo.. smile.gif

Just been really naughty sad.gif Ordered 'Black Books 3', 'The Lost Boys' special edition, 'The 'Burbs' uncut and 'Harry Potter & POA' from play.com. Bad bad girl I am ...
Mr. Meow Meow Chubby Sticks
The Lord of the Rings Return of the King extended super deluxe special turbo hyper edition (that may be a little exaggerated) comes out in the US soon. So the whole extended trilogy will total 12 hours in length. They also sold the extended Fellowship with 'former middle-earth king statue' bookends and Two towers came with a Gollum figure. I wonder what this one will come with.
innercitysumo
Does anyone know when the brilliant 'Garth Merenghi's Darkplace' will be released on DVD? I have a tape of all the episodes, but a DVD will be just great!
Ade
Just to update on the comments made by Mr Meow Meow Chubby Sticks
(such a cool name), regarding the LOTR: Return Of The King super-duper
Extended Edition DVD - released here in the UK on 10th December.

I believe the limited box set edition will include a die-cast model of Minas Tirith,
as well as an extra limited DVD featuring exerpts of one of the exclusive
Lord Of The Rings Trilogy Soundtrack Symphony Concerts (with the Montreal
Symphony Orchestra), which will be a very nice addition.

I had the very good fortune to go to the London Royal Festival Hall in May
with a few friends - first time I've ever seen a proper orchestra in concert,
and with Howard Shore himself conducting the London Philharmonic (I think),
so this package is definately going to be extra special for me. Bring it on!

Just got Little Britain DVD and can tell you its well worth the fifteen quid. Enjoyed the extras a lot biggrin.gif

Yes the 45 minutes worth of deleted scenes and the pilot are well worth it alone!
Ade
Yes, Little Britain's DVD extras are very good indeed,
and even more worth it for £11.99! (Thank you Play.com) biggrin.gif
[/smug]

Mind you, I did order Big Train Series One & Two a couple of months back
from CDWOW for £16.99, only to find out today that www.amazon.co.uk
have just dropped it to £13.99. ohmy.gif
[/not-so-smug]

Oh, and for those old enough to remember it (and even for those who aren't),
the historic Live Aid (13th July 1985) Concert DVD Box Set is released soon,
on 8th November to be precise. Currently priced at £30.99 at www.play.com.
Not bad for 4 discs and 10 hours of footage, I think you will agree. smile.gif

I didn't know there was a DVD of this! I saw the show live at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival last year.
It was very good!

I've got Series IV of Red Dwarf on pre-order at the moment. I think it's released on November 18th (in the UK anyway)

I'm also planning on ordering the Spaced box set tomorrow. Got to wait until bf decides whether there's anything he wants to order at the same time.
Seeing as we get all this stuff shipped from the UK to Australia it's better to order a few things at a time and save on postage.

Also just recently got the Eddie Izzard box set which is all his old stand-up vids. Good stuff.

I always try to order from amazon.co.uk when I can.
They ship really quickly to Australia.
And once I bought a DVD from them, then a few weeks later they had it on sale for a reduced price - and so they sent me an email saying that the DVD was now on sale and refunded me the difference from the price when I bought it!!!
How's that for good service!!!

They didn't have the Eddie Izzard box set available though so I had to buy it from some place called Choices Direct or something.

Oh yes indeed! I saw this show when he first brought it to the UK last year,
and again when he toured the UK after the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Then I read the book, and bought the audio CD book to boot!

Anyone who didn't get a chance to see this show live, I would encourage you
to see, nay, purchase this DVD, even if you haven't heard of Dave Gorman before.
For most folks, this will be your only chance, as Dave is performing the very last
leg of this brilliant show in New York, USA, starting on 26th October, for 6 weeks!

I recommend it: it's a very funny, fast-paced show of one man's obsessive,
globe-trotting mission, with a liberal smattering of cosmic coincidence!

Big Train out Tomorrow.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...2548994-8676420

With Added Pegg in commentary.

Also

Dawn Of The Dead Remake out tomorrow

Both the Unrated and Directors Cut versions ( read we want your money)

Go for the directors cut ( more extras I believe) or wait for the 2 disc set......probably.
ONscotland
Big Train has much more Pegg and Heap than I remember, and even appearances from Nick Frost and Julia Deakin that completely escaped my mind.

It's a nice release, lots of deleted scenes, commentaries etc. and a rather nice menu system.

Oh, and The Office Christmas Specials are out today. Will be getting mine from HMV tomorrow, as they are including a CD-single or summat extra with theirs.

I am quite confused about which copy of DotD (2004) to buy. Has anyone seen the Director's Cut? Is it superior to the theatrical version? I have to say I'm not sure an extra twenty minutes would add anything to the film - it's pace and timing worked really well as far as I'm concerned and I'm wary of buying a different version to the one I've seen. That said I could be missing out on the definitive version due to false preconceptions.

Any advice?

Anyone?
rabbit57i
Yeah, invest in something better. Or better yet make your own version. I'm sure that at least half the people on here could write a better script. sad.gif

None. It was shit.

Import the 4 disc boxset of the original. happy.gif
Zoe
Well thanks people for that hugely helpful feedback.

Personally I'm a great fan of the remake, I appreciate film taste is a subjective thing but I was asking for opinions on the quality of the director's cut rather than random rants about the theatrical version.

I thought it was funny, fast paced, inventively gory and kept it's black heart right up to its depressing but still wryly amusing conclusion. What’s that they say about opinions being like arseholes?

That was my opinion on it.

I've seen both cinema and directors cut versions and it's still shit, in my opinion. Nothing will come close to the original and it had lost all the great features of the original, to make a second rate horror film.

In the directors cut, there's only a few added scenes put back in. Nothing special, doesn't make the film any better.

But that's just my opinion of course.
J.R
Bah to you naysayers the remake was good.....no where near as good as the original but then.what is?

Anyway go for the Directors cut. It explains some of the plot holes and adds some scenes that should never have been cut out, and some great little extra bits into the film.
fried_gold
Ironically, dawn is the only one of the 'dead trilogy' that i've yet to see, and so seeing the remake wouldnt spoil much for me. i'm holding back til i can watch the original, though. the other 2 were superb.
AusChick
I've just recently seen all three. I think dawn was the best one.
Haven't seen the remake yet. I'll probably check it out, just to see what it's like.

Details on the forth coming DVD release of Star Trek: Generations can be found here.

Bit disappointed that they haven't managed to get some of the cast involved in the commentary as the previous special edition DVD's have been quite good.
