The Revolution controller looks interesting to me. I'm a big light gun game buff but this is a genre in decline. With this remote thingy you could easily use it for a lightgun game. Fingers crossed for Virtua Cop 3... Nothing is set for the Revolution anyway, nobody really knows the proper facts yet.

E3 should be interesting this year, since that is when they are expected to reveal pretty much everything about it, hopefully they won't blow it like Microsoft did last year.

The Dreamcast did seem ahead of its time, and I liked the controller. For its time, the original Shenmue had beautiful graphics, even though there was a slight technical 'problem' with the draw distance. I wish there were more Shenmue style games.

Plus it had one of the best RPG's ever, Skies of Arcadia. No offence to the Gamecube version, but I hear that while it's version was expanded a bit, the music sampling was inferior. Which comes to another point, the Dreamcast had some bloody good sound.

Indeed it did. i didn't own a Dreamcast but a load of my friends did and it was such a great console to play on.

Isn't Shenmue 3 in production at the moment? I remember reading somewhere that they have finally started to get to work on it.

Been playing X-Men Legends 2 on the PSP. Good no-brainer fun. Dying to try out the online side of it but no fucker ever seems to have a game going.
UnderSpaced
I just bought Silent Hill 3, but don't want to play it until I play Silent Hill 1, which i've had for almost a year. I've read that the first one is the scariest, so I can't wait to play it finally.

<----is a very proud owner of a Dreamcast. It was ahead of its time. Shenmue II did come out on the XBOX. but I did not think it was quite as good as the DC version.

Metropolis Street Racer has to be one of my all time favorite racing games ever.
SpaceSickPip
I don't think I've ever seen a Dreamcast.

Mines in the attic. Great little console it was too. ]
As for Shenmue- since i`ve moved to Japan I get little Shenmue moments every day. I almost have to stop myself from going up to gossiping old ladies to hear "Oh.. Hello Ryo".

Please dont mention Shen Mue 3. The years of torment are getting to me. They ended the second one in such a shoddy way though that I would be concerned as to what would happen in part 3. It all got a little to mystical for my liking.

I always wonder what would have happen if the DC had survived a little longer. It outshines the PS2 in just about every way. If only people had bought it...

Generally yes, although I played Echo - Defender of the Future (or whatever its called) and the voice sampling for the narration was terrible!!!

GTA:LCS is getting port to PS2 I see. I pity the fools who bought a PSP just to play it, being that its the only truely decent game for the over hyped piece of kit.

That Echo game was meant to stink in general if memory serves.
Personal DC top 5
Marvel VS Capcom 2
Shen Mue 1/2
House of the Dead 2
Phantasy Star Online
Skies of Arcadia

Another good thing about the DC was the ease of emulation on it. Has a zsnes emulator disk with 300+ games. Hours of retro fun

There are a others. It's the multiplayer that makes LCS worth getting anyway, the main game isn't all that and a bag of potato chips. I'm intrigued to see how this translates to the PS2. Online perhaps?

I got a PSP for the same emulation tricks the DC was so revered for. Currently got SNES, NES, Master System, Megadrive, Game Boy, Game Gear, Neo Geo Cd and ScummVM emulators on my memory stick. Handheld, arcade perfect Metal Slug anyone? Sam N Max? Super Metroid?
MagicDave
You're wrong about the PSP. For a start it's about flexibility and yes it's weak point is currently the games, but GTA:LC isn't the only good game on it although its the most technically impressive. IMHO Everybody's Golf is better whether you like Golf or not (I hadnt played Golf games for about 15 years since the original PGA Golf), Virtua Tennis is allegedly awesome, Metal Gear Acid is truly original and aside from the couple of overpowered cards endlessly replayable, and I can testify that Burnout is very strong.

PSP is the best thing I've bought in a long long time, I'm quite evangelical about the fact that it has exceeded every expectation I had for it. PSP has blown me away.

Right now I've got a PSP in my bag that has Everybody's Golf in the drive, a SNES emulator with Bomberman, Mariokart, and Puzzle Bobble, 70 MP3's to listen to and Grosse Point Blank, 3 Red Dwarf episodes and 2 Futurama episodes saved to the memory stick as videos. How good is that? Fucking amazing.

PSP > Sex.
MagicDave
Dreamcast was a great system but terribly marketed. You can find them for about a tenner these days, go into a Game or Gamestation and they'll probably have them in the back somewhere... probably being used as a doorstop.
whitey
I thought Burnout was arse myself, but I do like MGA and Lumines is one of those all too rare near perfect puzzle games. The video capabilities of it are spectacular. Whiled away many a boring lunch hour (when I was working) watching the second series of 15 Storeys High on it.
MagicDave
Trouble with Lumines is it's too easy. The gameplay is on a par with Tetris (and whisper it... even better than Tetris) but the difficulty curve is too generous. I quickly got to a stage where I needed to play for an hour to get close to where I was unlocking new levels, and for a portable system that's way too long. You need to be able to select what level to begin on, or something.
zeden
As ever its different strokes so I cant be arsed arguing. I'm a DS myself. My main reson for not liking the PSP is that there just arent enough origional games for it. I can play most of the games for it on PS2 in one form or another and the video/music element doesn't bother me.
Emulation wise- I thought that Sony put a stop to that by changing some technical stuff in the most recent models of the PSP?

You can't stop the hackers.

I like the look of the DS immensely but so far haven't seen a game for it which has really caught my attention. The idea of online Mario Kart is threatening to change that but it really needs something else. Animal Crossing maybe. Even then it's still games I've played before (much like the PSP) but with some slight alterations. I love nintendo as much as the next man but the Cube really started to test my patience in terms of repetitive play mechanics. Outside of Luigi's Mansion and Metroid Prime Nintendo really failed to deliver anything new.
MagicDave
Hackers hack as quickly as Sony plug holes. PSP will always be a platform for emulation, I'm sure of that - hell I've seen PSP's running Windows98! I'm on the latest firmware and emulation still works for me.

It's also endlessly customisable, the option to plug direct to an iPod hard drive giving you effectively up to 20/40gb of memory for music and videos is close, and you can already do that with Laptop hard drives and shuffle files on and off your PSP's memory stick at will. You can get TV receivers for it, and this is all within the first 12-18 months of it's launch. PSP is an amazing platform for tech innovators.

I just completed Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, but I don't know if I should be proud of that... biggrin.gif Oh well!

Yeah, its a little sparse so far. Mario Kart was worth the price alone for me. Having the back compatibility for Advance games is good.
On the horizon is a Final Fantasy 3 rehash/remake. Its the only FF never to get a US/UK release so I'm very interested in that one.
Pokemon should be unleashed this year as well. Online Pokemon... wub.gif

Edit- American Wasteland is easy. Try Underground 2 on sick difficulty, now thats satisying to finish

True, but I have a plethora of GBAs for that (regular, SP and micro). The GBA is still my portable of choice, solely because of it's genuine portability. If I'm taking my PSP out I have to take my manbag to carry the fucker. I don't think I'll really be sold on the DS until Zelda makes an appearance. I'm a sucker for Link.
MagicDave
Is there a GBA emu for PSP yet? I kinda miss Advance Wars.
theevilresident101
Yeah, I have a DS and SP myself. The SP is for old games, like on Colour and stuff. I found a DS game in a second hand shop (Cash Convertors) called Urban Asphalt GT; quite good. And so far I already bought nine cars out of it...one of which is my prized Morgan Aero 8. As for my old SP games, I actually enjoy starting the Poke'mon journeys all over again...I find it sick sometimes. Right now I'm aiming to find Mario Kart for Advance but I haven't tried the DS version yet.

Ah, handheld games...where would we be without them? happy.gif

There is one kicking about, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work on anything over 1.5 and it was never particularly well implemented anyway. I think people are reluctant to work on it as it's still an active competitor and PSP hackery is already a big grey area. I recommend a GBA micro. They're beautiful.
MagicDave
I've given my GBA to my girlfriend when I got the PSP - she's now a Zoo addict. If I can get Advance for the PSP I will but like you said theyre kinda bulky (although the DS is about the same size) and I'm not about to carry round another handheld with it just for one game.

I'm mostly pissed off that for two years I bitched about not having arcade-perfect Asteroids on the GBA because it would complete my life. Then within weeks of giving my GBA away they release Asteroids. Bastards.
SuperSaiyanStoner
Ok, no Idea if this has been mentioned before but.....

http://video.google.com

A pure haven if you want videos for your PSP. You can search and then select to download the maority of things in psp format. Ive just downloaded a 22 min video of advent children! I can see my 1 gig stick being used up very rapidly!
AusChick
Having a bunch of people round on Saturday night to play all my Singstar games and also Buzz! on my PS2

Can't wait!

Cheers

Got Advance Wars Dual Strike yesterday and it's as horribly addictive as all the previous versions in the series, plus the use of both screens is quite well implemented without ruining the old features that made the game great. It's also cool to see the old characters back and laying in even more backstory for them. For a turned-based strategy game the characters are actually quite well fleshed out, it's fun to be Max.
NiteFall
Advance Wars rocks. It rocks on the DS, rocked on the Advance and it even rocked as Gameboy wars on the original Gameboy. Although it was never released here and I had to play it in Japanese.
fatseff1234
Completed Call of Duty 2 yesterday. I'm saddened and also glad at the same time. Saddened because this fantastic gaming experience is over but glad because now I can get stuck into a couple of my other games without killing nazis prioritising(sp) my gaming goodness.

Played King Kong on the 360 on Friday. Utter crap. I couldnt keep up with the number of glitches that were going on. Tons of things passing through objects. One glitch stopped us from walking past a line of bushes which had already been burned down. The only way of remedying it was restarting from the last check point. Apparently the 360 version is in some way inferior to the PS2 and x-box versions. Anyone played either and experienced similar glitches?

Also played an x-box with an 80gig hard drive and emulation for snes, megadrive, playstation, n64 and others built in. Had a great laugh with some mates playing Smash Bros. Also had Metal Slug 3 built in which is a wicked game.

I haven't played it but the problem was apparently because the developers all had fancy high definition plasma TVs, calibrated the brightness for these, and then forgot to test what it actually looked like on a bog standard TV. The result was that the game was far too dark on most TVs so you can't even see what you're doing. Rather stupid considering all they would have needed was a gamma adjustment option in game.

Oho, just got over 30,000 Kudos in a single lap on Project Gotham 3...
Douglas Nicol
Well I got a preowned copy of The Warriors for my X-Box and I'm enjoying it so far. I'm going between that and Return of the King on X-Box, though I'm finding the Shelob, Minas Tirith Wall and Pelennor fields levels damned irritating. I'm also playing Arc-Twilight of the Spirits and Suikoden IV on the PS2.
NiteFall
Playing Fallout: Tactics again. Forgotten how good this game is. Even if it is inferior to the rest of the Fallout games.

I thought it may have been something to explain the glitches but I guess not. Its just a crap game in the end.

Forcing myself to play some more Xenosaga. Something good actually happened after 14 hours of play. One really good cut scene... Was really hoping for more from it.
fatseff1234
Well now I've completed Call Of Duty 2, Perfect Dark Zero and King Kong for the 360. The best of the three was Call Of Duty 2. Perfect Dark Zero was far too short and if I'm honest didn't make too much sense, at least it looked purty tongue.gif and atleast I have Condemned to keep me busy for a while.

I'm going to trade them in later but I'm not sure what to get next though.
Hobbes
I'm still playing Madden 06 more than anything else. I never get bored of these games.

Didn't you find the final boss in PDZ stupidly easy? Even on Dark Agent he's not all that tough, especially considering what a bastard it was to complete the original on Dark.

you ever tried dark elvis sims on one hit kils on the original? Sweet jesus man! Now thats hard!
MagicDave
I've not really found many new games very interesting lately. I think I need to upgrade my PC to play current generation of games like Civ and Half Life 2. I like strategy and FPS and my PS2 isnt great at either.

Mostly playing FIFA'06 and Sniper Elite on PS2, and Everbody's Golf on PSP.

I may have tried, and I may have cried as a result. I loved the original Perfect Dark, was immensely fun and cool, the follow-up has been something of a dissapointment, but then again I'm not really fit to judge it for one reason or another. Multiplayer is great though.
