Are we talking Al Lowe, or Al Gore? If it's the latter, I must point out that he never actually did claim to have invented the Internet, at least not on those particular words. It was something more along the lines of "While in Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." And Gore was one of the key proponents of early Internet development, beyond the military and academic networks that already existed, helping to secure funding and push through legislation. The "I invented the Internet" line is rather misleading, and has been distorted and blown out of proportion for years.

Al Lowe, on the other hand, is the bawdy humourist who created Larry.
m0r1arty
Gore....urg!

No I meant Lowe, I'm sure someone somewhere said he invented the internet (something to do with a chessgame)

I tried looking for it but cannot at the mo find it

BUT

you can check out his site right here

Yeah, I've been to the site before (most recently just a moment or two before noticing you'd pasted the link). Perusing it, it looks as though he was not involved with Magna Cum Laude. Fine by me.

It's too bad Sierra's gone. I could go for a new Space Quest right about now.
m0r1arty
There is a silver lining here for you!

Alot of fans have created their own versions of the early games, and boy are they good! You can even do your own with a SCI or ASC compiler (I think I got the latter right?!?)

Check out some of the games here, there are some crackers!

Cheers, mate. I'll check it out.

As much as I respect Sierra, LucasArts was always the adventure-game company for me. Fortunately for people like me, the fine folks at LucasFan Games (I'd link you, but their site is down) have been cranking out top-notch updates of such classic titles as Maniac Mansion, and Zak McCracken and the Alien Mindbenders. Rumour has it their next project is a Raiders of the Lost Ark adventure, but we'll see.

I loaded Jedi Outcast onto my new(ish) PC yesterday to see how it looked and completed the first three levels - bloody good fun it was too!

There's something to be said about shooting Stormtroopers! cool.gif
Douglas Nicol
I always liked the first two Gabriel Knight games from Sierra, the third was so delayed it was outdated, and it had a horrible graphics engine.

PHANTOM. DUST.

See you guys online.

Also, thanks to my modded box, I've been playing the new timesplitters...the new splinter cell...couple other random games.
Amazongirl

The internet was just what arose from the ARPAnet (Advanced Research Projects Agency) being opened to public use, i think.

In between UT2k4 and Counter Strike: Source, I've gone back onto Morrowind again. That should keep me going for about a year or so...

Well my mate finished Resi 4 in under 20 hours. It was awsome.

Cant wait to get my copy.
Greeba
Just finished Darwinia. It's so original and involving, it's the first truly beautiful game I've seen since Homeworld arrived 5 years ago. And it's made by 4 bedroom coders. Go buy it, they deserve it more than the mega studios.
Omniscia
Darwinia, that's from the guys who made Uplink, right?

I had an import copy, but it refused to load when I got about halfway through disc 2. Will have to consider getting a UK copy and starting again. Probably will as it's that good.

Edit: Uplink was a fine game.

Not sure if this is the best place for this but it made me laugh.

Linked to from the PvP site is this little gem . . .

Leeeerooooyy!!!!

You may need to watch it a couple of times to catch everything they say but it's bloody funny!
maian
That's fantastic, such involvement by the players and it all goes so wrong!

Is their team name ironic?

Most anticipated game for me is the Call of Cthulhu rpg. Looks tremendous, and they made it compatible with old systems (though for the best effects you still need something fairly recent). I haven't been this excited for a new game since, well, ever.

Really? I was looking forward to having a crack at that at some point.

RE4 was sooooo good, the best game i've played since the original Halo. It's definitely up there as one of the all time greats, such as FF7
The Phantom
Hugely addicted to 'Yoshi, Touch & Go' on the DS. Proper fun gaming.
super_horse
just started up star wars galaxies again after being inspired by the new fever sweeping the nation

Is anybody as excited as I am about Nintendogs on the DS? I'll probably get the Chihuahua version. [/child] I'd love a real Chihuahua, like Mickey Rourke in Once Upon a Time in Mexico.
Clart
That's REAL method acting, right there.
Rushmore
Did anyone think resi 4 was a bit short and easy.

I've been playing James Bond: Everything or Nothing for Xbox for the past couple days. It's no Goldeneye, but it's suprisingly addictive.

Eve Online are currently offering a free 14 day trial. I'm downloading the thing now. As I understand it it's like an MMO version of Elite but massively more complicated. I have long dreamed of such a thing...

https://secure.eve-online.com/ft/?sk=IGN

Over 50,000 players all in the same online universe.
Sounds great. Anybody already a player?
MissingPlanet
Started playing Pikmin 2 again today. I put it down last year to play San Andreas. It'd been so long I decided to start again from the beginning. Great game.
Sean of the Dead
I got Alien Hominid today, absolutely manic game. Great fun though, especially in level 1-4 where you can levitate a load of agents into a wood chipper.... good times.

Yes. Since I read an article on it in NOM, I can't wait to get it. I don't care which dog it is, just as long as I can call it "Hibleten".

Killzone on the PS2 is fucking brilliant and I've been playing it for about 4 days since I bought it 2nd hand from Blockbuster for just 15 pounds! Bargain!! Ace graphics and gameplay, I strongly recommend it to everyone.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect! The plot is easy, but hard to keep track of how all the time travelling work, full of unlockables and mingames and great characters who now talk frequently! Hooray for Harry Tipper, Captain Ash and The R-108!
Rushmore
Killzone is amazing i also recommend it, shame about the ending.

Soldier of Fortune: Gold Edition for PS2.

Quite genuinely the funnest game since the creation of Mario Kart/Mario Tennis/Mario Party(the original N64 version, you understand).

Well I'm hooked. Quite possibly to the tune of a tenner a month when the trial runs out. Great stuff. If you've ever played Elite or Frontier you'll have not bother getting into this one. Ignored all the added complications so far (interacting with any real people for example) and concentrating solely on playing the market and getting some cash together. Unfortunately it's so addictive that I literally fell asleep at my computer whilst in autopilot last night and when I woke up my ship had been blowed up and all my money was gone.

Recommended.

A shame indeed...
I think Mario Party 21 will have this plot:
"It's a-time for another party!.....a.
When walking down an alleyway, Mario saw a group of orphans trying to dance. He felt sorry for them and went home to try and not think about it. "Oh a-no," Mario cried. "It's-a not-a working....a." So he decided to raise money for a gun to kill the orphans by having an amazing party!"

Or

"Bowsers back!
Oh no, Bowser has returned to the Mushroom Kingdom and stolen all the happy clams! It's up to Mario and his pals, including his new friend Clamsworthy, to save the day by harnessing the power stars power and the magical clam guardian Clammetta will give you bonus super clams! He must do this by, for some reason, having a party and not running and jumping or anything like that. This is what Nintendo have decided to give you instead of a real Mario game, yay!Featuring bonus clam controller which allows you to be a super clam yourself!"

When will it stop....

Might have to take a gander at Eve online then, although I don't know when I'll be able to play it.

Have just got Jade Empire on the Xbox, very beautiful game. I am the master of turning into a toad monster tongue.gif Gotta love the character names though, Strangler Tien and Sagacious Zu, or Sun Li the Glorious Stategist. Great stuff.
